I HATE KATRINA

Hello all of my ultra fabulous readers. I'm writing to let everyone know that I am A-OK. I had to evacuate to my parents' house in North Louisiana, so I have no clue if my apartment in N.O. is still standing. I haven't had good internet/phone access in days. Thanks for all your prayers and words of hope and concern.

Right now, my mind and heart is really hurting for the thousands of people in LA, MS, and AL that were stranded or just couldn't afford to leave. Please everyone keep them in your prayers. Even the weather man did not expect this much damage, which is still worsening, until the last minute. So people left the city expecting to return in a couple days (packing only a couple things). Now we've been told we can't even enter the city for a couple months. I could barely stop myself from breaking down crying today as everything just all hit me. I had to go shopping for clothes and essentials since they're not letting us back in to New Orleans for another 3-4 months. I have not talked to ANY, except 2, of my friends cuz all phone and power has been down for days. I'm extremely worried. My school has been closed indefinitely. Every gas station within 20 miles of where I'm currently at is completely out of gas. Even though I'm thankful my family has the means to keep my life as normal as possible, whatever that means, I still hurt so bad for everyone else. I can't even explain it. My, as well as many others', life has been turned upside down and am still trying to figure out how to operate without my normal life. It's insane and the worst natural disaster to ever hit the US. My mind can barely wrap around it.

For anyone who is having trouble imagining exactly what Katrina has done....imagine September 11th on a 3-state level. The mayor of N.O. is predicting thousands, just in New orleans, are dead. South eastern Mississippi looks like a nuclear bomb was set off. Hardly anything is standing. In order to get my mind off of the tragedy surrounding me, I will be doing another post this weekend. Hopefully I can get some other people's mind off of it a while too.

I'm so glad to hear that you are safe. I kept checking your website to see if you were all right. I live in Houston and thought maybe she might be here. You and everyone else are in my prayers. My sister used to live in New Orleans and we are both very, very, sad to see what has become of the city.

glad to hear you're alright, hopefully in the next bit you'll hear from all your friends. it's definitely surreal. i can't imagine having to leave the place where i've set up my life and not know when i could come back and what would be left to come back to. you and your family and friends are in my prayers.

I was worried and I am glad

I was worried and I am glad you are ok Tash! I started tearing up when I saw you had finally posted something. My prayers are with you and yours as well as the rest of these people. I live right next door in Dallas and we have what we are now calling "refugees" staying here in town. Did we ever think that we would hear anyone in the U.S. referred to as "refugees"? I work for a large company who has already pledged help but even the people I work with all want to do something. We will give what we can and keep the prayers coming. God Bless. Stephanie

God is good...I am so happy

God is good...I am so happy to hear you are well. I too feel so bad for all those in NO. Im from Northeastern Louisiana and live in Dallas area. It is so shocking that a storm could take so much from everyone. My prayers are continuously with those who suffered and still suffereing. I am also thanking God for those who are safe.Take care of yourself and I wish you and the people in the southern states peace and my prayers.

Natasha!I am so very happy to hear you are ok! I am so far away from it all and to see the devastation on TV is beyond comprehension to me... something that does not register so I cannot begin to fathom what it is like for you and all the others who are living through this tragedy! I can only imagine how helpless everyone is feeling. All I can see us civilians doing is to donate, beyond that, what else can we do? Hope and pray for the best? That is not enough! Hopefully the f-ing gov. and it's inadequate, cold & callous "leader" (what a joke!) will get off their collective butts and do something!!!In the meantime, I applaud you for writing about your experiences through all of this. If it helps you unload, keep doing it because you put a face on the tragedy. And the nation and the world needs to see and hear as many stories as possible. It is the only way to keep compassion alive and help coming.If you can think of anything that I can do, that anybody can do, let us know! Take good care of yourself and know that you are in my thoughts (as well as in those of so many others.... of that I am sure!). Be well and keep writing!Leila

Hey Girl!I love your blog you def. got tha best gossip out there! It's so good to see that you made it through Katrina. I'm from the big N.O. myself but moved about a year ago and i got to say the worst thing even is seeing my people suffer as they did and still are for the most part and not being able to do anything about it. I still got plenty friends who are M.I.A but I'm tryin' to keep the faith. keep us posted on how you doing its nice to know your making it alright. nothing but love + respect. Hang in there.
