Mini Fab: Hmmm…

The internet is all abuzz about Angelina Jolie playing the part of Marianna Pearl in the new movie A Mighty Heart: The Brave Life and Death of My Husband Danny Pearl:

Apparently folks are pissy because they see this simply as a white woman dressed in black face to play a black woman. Even though Mariane Pearl is bi-racial. Some folks are saying this part could have been played by numerous black female actors, and it is an insult and even racist to have the part portrayed by a white woamn darkened with makeup. But what some folks don't realize is that not only is Mariane happy about Angelina playing the part, but she actually signed over the rights to the movie (she wrote the book) to Brad Pitt who is the producer. Very interesting situation here folks. Just wanted to put it out there....

how hypocritical... people

how hypocritical... people are always quick to label bi-racial children of african descent (like me) as just "black" (which is very erroneous...i don't even want to begin) but then they get their panties in a bunch over this kind of shit? puhlesse. people dyeing themselves brown...what about when dave chappelle paints himself as "dave" the newscaster or the wayans brothers in white chicks??? everyone thinks it's funny. and it's not. & so what if they could've tapped other actresses/actors who wouldn't require tinting or stage makeup. that's life. Movie making isn't about equal employment opportunities. It's about that paper. I wouldn't care is a white lady dyed brown portrays halle berry in a biopic in 80 yrs. haha. or a really tan asian man for tiger woods. i don't think many people care and if they do, i'm sure there are other more important things to worry about.

Actually, Angelina is of

Actually, Angelina is of mixed heritage as well, including American (Native) American. According to IMDB.COM (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001401/bio): "She is of Czech and American descent on her father's side and French-Canadian and Haudenosaunee (Iroquian Indian) heritage on her mother's side."

I remember Lonette McKee stating that she could play other roles, that she could just as well play Jew, Italian, roles etc., but you'll never see that. You'll never see a Bi-Racial actress being "lighted" to play a white person. Sorry if you find Black people claiming Bi-racial actors distressing (speaks volumes) but please remember that it's in the African American community were they get their support and start their careers.
