Nelly Talking Ish About Halle B.+Christina & Alicia Make Appearances+ Lil Kim Is "Chillin Tonight"

Nelly says Tip Drill isn't as bad as Monster's Ball So Nelly talked to the folks over at SOHH.com about why Essence will never put him on the cover.  He says there's a double standard of hip hop acts v. TV acts:
You look at Essence magazine, and they wouldn't put a rapper on the cover...They wouldn't put Nelly on the cover of Essence. Why? I don't know. Would I like to do it? Of course I would. Why not? You wouldn't put me on the cover because of the 'Tip Drill' video ... that's probably your main focus," he added. "But yet still, you put Halle Berry on the cover. She's had a 15-minute sex scene with some white guy in front of a couch ... I mean you can't tell me that 'Tip Drill' was worse than watching that sex scene between Billy Bob (Thornton) and Halle Berry. You can't tell me that. That was longer than four or five minutes. You feel what I'm sayin'?
Boy stop. Alicia Keys performed for Hot 97 listeners for their in-studio series. And she was rocking a cute Akademiks sequin hoody. Me likey. By the way, those women who turned him away from performing for a greater cause; absolute morons. Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face. Yeah he's this and he's that, but turning away another step in the fight against something that could plague them all at some point in their lives; short-sighted and weak-minded. Not to mention that they chose to punish his sister, a sister, for the actions of her brother. Talk about self-hatred. Maybe, hopefully, they were still able to make some use out of their books smarts cause they have no common sense at all.

I can definitely understand

I can definitely understand how the Tip Drill was offensive and how people have had a problem with it, but all of you who are against Nelly and support Halle are hypocrites. This is exactly the problem in black america today. The problem that I, and many other people, have with Halle's scene is that she had the nerve to stand up in front of the world and accept her award with the words "I did this for black women everywhere." uuummmm.... okay. For the record, yes, they did have sex (absolutely not required for the movie, but she CHOSE to anyway). Ignoring the fact that she was married to a man who has a daughter who must find some way to respect her father after seeing that scene, she passes it off as her expression of her love for her husband. I don't know about anyone else, I don't need a wife that loves me that much. She literally spit in the face of every hard working black actress who has displayed the style and grace we cherrish about our strong sisters and spread her legs in a low class, low budget movie that deserved no award so she could win an Oscar. She used to brag about not being on the casting couch for her entire career and the goes and defines her career BY the casting couch. Appalling. I'm sorry, but what message does THAT send to young sisters? Just because its a movie doesn't mean it doesn't have the same, or potentially greater impact, on the mentallity of impressionable people. People are more easily corrupted by movies because they've had more time to connect to the characters whereas videos are obvious fantasies packed into 4 or 5 minute blurs. Someone has to sit and write that script the same way someone sits and writes a song, so what you're essentially saying is that movie writers shouldn't be held to the same moral high as song writers. And I guess Porn movies are alright too since they're actually movies and not songs. Again, young sisters turning tricks for a couple dollars; even more disturbing than a music video and obviously more real. These movies don't influence young women to join that industry? Obviously so since you can find an endless stream of these movies with and endless stream of young women trying to make a name for themselves. And, hell, if Halle isn't opposed to even soft porn, why should they stop short at real porn. You people need to get real and realize that rappers tell about the world that they live in, not what they make up. Wilt Chamberlain slept (allegedly) with 20,000 women. Rap wasn't around then and groupies were, so you do the math. No I don't think its an excuse for the state of our culture at present, but be real about the music being a symptom of the greater issue and not the other way around.

i think nelly is just trying

i think nelly is just trying to make excuses for that disgusting degrading pathetic music video he made .. hes mad at the fact that halle berry had a love scene with a white man on camera and is currently pregnant by a white man awhole lot of black men are mad as hell!!!!!!, alot of black men are mad at halle berry like she owes them something, they all lusted after her and were hurt as hell by watching a white man have her the way they themselves want to have her and there mad about it!!!!!!!!! calling her all kinds of deragotory names like sellout etc.. but they themselves are laying/marrying/dating all the white woman they can get there hands on.... they all tried to act like halle berry+black women shouldve pledged some kind of loyalty to them but they turn there backs on us all the time.. nelly tried to make a point and it backfired!!!!!!!!!! swiping a credit card down some black woman's ass crack is no way up-lifting to any black woman PERIOD!!!!!!!! making love to someone is totally normal... black men degrade black woman in there videos all the time, yes the woman who appear in the video needs to take some responsibility for there part but he makes no sense... it was nothing "creative" about that ... he needs to worry about himself and start making videos that are actually "creative" and rap about something other than hoes, money, cars, jewelry, aka BORING!!!!!!!!!!!! kanye, common, talib ,lupe fiasco, are refreshing...

I myself enjoy the smooth

I myself enjoy the smooth lyrics of a charming brother MC who can finesse and compliment me with how beautiful he thinks I am or some poetic romantic love jones, what happened to that? How come everything is how bad or scandalous a woman is. How come I am the only chick who doesnt see that there is no balance in this rapp game. It is devisive and has so many women out to kill and disrespect other women. Do you hear yourselves defending those who dooooooooooo and do meannnnnnn to disrespect uuuuuuuu, yes they are talking about u and allll of us, cuz where are the songs about the ladies they respect where the ffffff are those songs???? u dont know them because there are none. Its an out and out campaign to smear us all, by them and the corporate heads. Now there's the real pimps and hoes. corporate label heads and the rappers!! Lova of real brothas!!

lola falana? As women were is ur unity with ur own kind? I dont get u women who forever side with artist whom consistently degrade us and use the infantile excuse that they are doing such great things elsewhere. There is one thing that is so important that all are missing if there was not these artist who are disrespectful with these lyrics there wouldnt be desperate chicks(whom are responsible for their actions) joining in these videos. I felt Halle's performance was off the chain as well. But Nelly as well as 95 percent of rapp artist are very misogynististic and hateful to death of women. Us hating ourselves and supporting it just because we are used to it, the beat is hot, he's cute, is no excuse to just say it's ok or to make the regular boys will be boys to men excuse. Where is the accountabilty. We are living in a world where no one is adult enough to grow the f up and be accountable!!!!!!!!! I agree with Nelly. The same content that was in her movie was in his video. I think that it's all the same shit entertainment. Like jay-z says on his new album Scarface the movie had more influence on him then Scarface the rapper. That should say a lot to America. Tip Drill was a bit much but so was Monster's Ball. It was just as much of a Mess.

I thought TipDrill was one of

I thought TipDrill was one of the funniest vidoes ever on Uncut! When is America gonna stop blaming men for women's dumbass decisions? You wanna be a hot butt, then have the nerve to make it seem like you're innocent (Karrine Stephens and the others like her) when you're not. If women would stop making themselves available to be downgraded, then male artists would be forced to be more creative with their videos. The credit card down the butt is halarious and I don't see anybody asking the female why she let it go down. Nelly is right. Storyline or not, Halle's sex scene was disgusting and made women of color look like slaves still being raped by slavemasters (except her nasty butt enjoyed it!) The Academy gave her an Oscar for that scene....not for the storyline/plot, but for doing a white man. That scene is disturbing and makes my skin crawl!

Nelly u need more people. When was the last time he had a hit single/project/album/movie cameo?? Is HE still using Tip Drill to stay relavant? While Essence is a woman's magazine that has featured men on the cover, they have had rappers (ie. Queen Latifah, Eve). Suck it up pahtna!

aqt2nv, You whole post was garbage/ Stripping is nothing by pan-handling with your clothes off. Plain and simple. Any woman that can get up in a room full of strangers and take her clothes off for money has lost her dignity to do it. You cannot sell me the story that these are mothering, educated women trying to survive. Even if some are they STILL lost their dgnity when they got naked in front of strangers for cash. I am tired of us thinking that "getting money" is a lfe goal that brings respect. The "love" of money is the root of all evil.
Pat's picture

I agree with Nelly. I am a

I agree with Nelly. I am a female and I was as offended by Halle's scene with Billy Bob as I was of Nelly's video. I was even more offended when they gave her an Oscar for that, as if to say a black woman has to get on her knees in order for the academy to recognize her in a leading role. Halle has played better parts than that prior to winning the Oscar, other black actrists have played better parts and deserved the Oscar. That win was a slap in our faces. Black, male, rappers do not have a monopoly on misogyny. It is everywhere, only better disguised, but publicised just as frequently. If we are going to chatise rappers lets chatise corporate america, men in the white house, network tv (prime time, day time, cartoons). None of it is acceptable.

I totally agree with Nelly on that statement. Boy's on point with that one!! AK is just FABULOUS!!
xXxBaby KimxXx's picture

Are you people crazy? Nelly

Are you people crazy? Nelly is a fool for making that statement. The reason why he is not on the cover of Essence is because he is not cute. Cute covers sell magazines. Essence Magazine is not some ghetto fabulous rag. Come on people. Why give him a forum for this foolishness. And, stop hating on Halle for her Academy Aard win. And, for the record, his comment was racist. Let's say Eminem made the same comment about Billy Bob having to do that sex scene with some black girl, folks would be all in his face. Get over it.
P-trick's picture

Nelly should just be quiet

Nelly should just be quiet and take his medicine like a big boy. He alone is responsible for that video. He had the clout to approve the concept and all that it represented. Nelly had choices and the women in the video had choices. Money was more important than integrity for all parties involved. You have to be on the pipe to think that you can have a video like that and then sit down at Maya Angelou's knee! Ashanti, explain it to your man...or are you silly too???? When African Americans take the high road they do not get recognized. Like someone stated earlier, why an Oscar for Monster's Ball and Training Day? We get the "nod" when we are at our worst--No reward for the high road. We have to take the bitter with the sweet-at least we are on screen and we have to support and recognize our own when they do good work. Halle and Denzel both know the Hollywood game. Some of us need to catch up to that.

Remy Ma can rap my ass. No,

Remy Ma can rap my ass. No, im not feeling this Lil' Kim song but she has made a lot of hot songs in the past, won grammy awards and got six mics on her Naked Truth album which-no other female rapper has done, and it only had one sexual song on it. Remy Ma is farther than half way of accomplishing what Lil' Kim has. If its anyone, Missy would be the only one.
Miss T's picture

My question is this: would

My question is this: would either Halle or Nelly sit down with their own children and watch what they displayed on television or the "big screen"? Would they watch it with their mothers? How about someone of their faith of whom they highly respected? If the answer is no, what they did was distasteful in any regard. Like or not, the images we see have an affect on our society. young boys grow up to be men. If their heads are constantly filled with such poor images of women, we're lost. We cannot deny that there are many impressionable people. And in regard to Halle, being in a movie doesn't justify "that scene". You think whoever her higher power might be will say "Oh. Don't sweat it. You were only making a movie." I think not.
Ruth's picture

I happen to agree with Nelly

I happen to agree with Nelly for the FIRST time! Halle's sex scene was rediculous just like his Tip Drill video..
DivaB's picture

Put into context, Halle

Put into context, Halle Berry's sex scene in Monster's Ball was very raw and honest, driven by desire, heartbreak, and loneliness. The character had just lost her son, and she desperately needed someone to cling to at that moment. Monster's Ball is a phenomenal film, and it pains me that so many immature and shallow people reduce it to that one scene. Put into context, Nelly swiped a credit card down some girl's backside in a music video. People, the two are NOT the same thing. Grow the hell up and recognize that sexuality and nudity can and are often used in the service of art. There was no art in the Tip Drill video, just crass misogyny and commercial hip-hop at its worst.
RLS's picture

I usually dont respond to

I usually dont respond to these threads, however, after reading everyone's comments, and the fact that I was there in ATL when the tip drill video was made,AND the fact that I know most of the girls in the video, let me say this: The women who performed int he video are all exotic dancers. They perform nightly at clubs completely naked, for their money. That's their hustle. All of those women are over 21, and not necessarily hoes, sluts and bitches as everyone would like to refer to them. No I am not a stripper, i am a bartender, and let me tell you, those girls GET MONEY. Some have degrees, they have homes, cars, and children to attend to like everyone else. I personally dont think that the video was disrespectful, because exotic dancing, tricking, porn all that was around wayyyy before Nelly. You cant hold that man responsible because he made an adult song for adults, featuring adults. That shit came on at 3 in the morning on uncut. Who the hell was up that late anyways??? Im so sick of everybody blaming a song for the degradation of black women. Then, everybody wants to talk about Halle, man leave that girl alone HATERS!!! So what if she's mixed?? big fucking deal, guess what, there were spanish girls, half oriental girls, AND black girls in that video and its funny I dont hear anyone else complaining about them in the video. The woman who ran the credit card down her ass (whyte chocolate) that shit was her idea, and guess what? That shit popped her off in a major way. People used to come (guys and girls) out of state just to see her perform, and she was a very nice girl, and very business oriented. That lifestyle, many of you on this board has never had to live, and thats cool, but until I see some dead bodies dropping behind this shit, then its not a cause for concern. Worry about the neighborhood bum who calls you a hoe, or a bitch, not what some guy who has never even seen u before says about some girls that he has seen before and knows. I cant hate on the song, when it came on at work hell, WE ALL MADE MONEY and I didnt take off a thing. Stop being so damn judgemental and get your shit together and chin check these young bucks with no fathers around thats disrespecting these young girls who haven't done anything wrong. You cant save a grown ass man or woman for that matter. and while you all are throwing stones living in a glass house, have any of you ever went to an inner city school and provided information about self respect to young women? encouraged them into college? learning a trade? probably not. ITS ONLY ENTERTAINMENT PEOPLE!!!!
aqt2nv's picture

This is what it is people;

This is what it is people; I'm so tired of everyone saying these women are the victims. Listen; it's not for the money so they can't say that because they don't get paid to do this crap! They probably do the same things when cameras aren't around (been to the club lately?). What's sad is when naive people think that this is the way sistas are and expect to see us acting like those girls in the video. Not everyone can be Melissa Ford or Superhead but for some it's worth a try!!

What is this, the St. Louis

What is this, the St. Louis edition today of YBF? Nelly & Chingy??? Chingy is nasty. I'm glad he finally cleaned himself up though. As for Nelly, Essence is a magazine for women. Its for professional women of color, i agree. I don't think Nelly should be judged based on the tip drill video though, but Essence is for WOMEN. Nelly is no role model for women. He said on B.E.T & almost every interview him & Ashanti are just friends but she says thats her boyfriend. Nelly can't even claim his own girlfriend & then had a baby by a magic city stripper a few months ago & he wants to be on Essence magazine. Have some respect for women and show the public by your behavior first.

OK, so Nelly made a tip drill

OK, so Nelly made a tip drill video. It's all about Choice people. As adults you made a decision to watch an adult video and now you’re complaining. Nelly has a point. I really think some of you are missing his point about the Essence Mag. Nelly isn't begging to be on it, he's simply saying stop pointing fingers. Do we sit here and justify one over the other, ofcourse not, but we respect his point. They were both equally offensive to women as far as I am concerned. Don't condemn him for his video when you praise Halle Berry for getting screwed and treated like a hoe by some Caucasian. This is exactly what White America wants to see.. Do not support Nelly and all the other Rappers. Crazy that some of you have fallen for it. What do you all think about his new video? He has definitely shown growth, but who's supporting him now with professional women in his video. The same ones complaining about the Tip Drill video.
Crazy's picture

I don't think that Essence

I don't think that Essence stated that TIP DRILL is the reason for not putting Nelly on the cover, I think that that is his logic. He wasn't on the cover long before that video came out, so why would you expect anything different now. I don't see Halle on the cover of VIBE so she could say that because she hasn't shown her ass in music vidoes they won't put her on the cover. Each magazine has their own target distribution demographics. To each his own.
Dutches's picture

The point that Nelly misses

The point that Nelly misses is that MB was a full on two hour movie with a plot, theme, subtext, actual writing and character development. A 4-minute sex scene was almost incidental to the whole thing. It also got Halle an Oscar. For that alone in the arena of arts and entertainment, she is now more historically significant than he will ever be. For that alone Essence should celebrate her. What did his video do that was so signifcant to they need to celebrate him? he misses the point on so many levels. If he has an issue with Essence not featuring him on the cover, fine. But to Bring Halle into is just ignorance. Also, Monster's Ball was just a movie. Halle was not doing any more to harm the cause of black women or the black community than say, Denzel was in Training Day by playing a black corrupt drug dealing cop. I guess it is ok to glorify drug dealing in a movie but God forbid you have sex with a white guy! Horrors!

I guess Halle's scene could

I guess Halle's scene could be considered artistic, but Nelly running a credit card down a girl's crack is mos def not.

Actually, Nelly is right on

Actually, Nelly is right on point. Sadly, many (too many) Black women fail to see just how insulting the entire monsters ball movie was and is to Black people. No I'm not giving ignorant music videos a "pass" either, but consider this. The movie took what was supposed to be the premire Black movie starlett and had her degraded at the foot of a yt man. So insulting was this movie that more than three TRUE Black female actresses flat out turned this role down (and don't think for one minute this fact did not play a role in the academy giving halle that oscar). What baffels me is that all of the idiots that played in this movie, Puffy included, could not recognize the major slap in the face to Black people it was. A yt executioner of a Black man who ends up 'taking' that very mans woman? And some of you call this artistic? Idiots plain and simple. So let me ask you this, do you think you'd see the same type of movie, lets say with Brad Pitt being excuted by Tyreese and then Tyreese ends up boning Scarlett Johansen, a primer white starlett? I think not. That scenario says it all and yet some black folk still don't "get it".

He's officially an idiot.

He's officially an idiot. I have decided that Black men in rap will never understand how they degrade women

But tell me what the hell she's doin acting out this dumb sh-t? She was trippin when she felt that this role was 4 her. Do like "Stay Black" say & don't Never do no shit like that again! I know I gotta get over it but she a border line skank now... & I never said she was the hottest chick, just "freakin gorgeous". Sounds like "saywho" been sippin on that hate juice.

or OR!...would anyone think

or OR!...would anyone think twice if it was just two white people having sex in the living room??? We let race get in the way of just watching a movie for what it is:entertainment and art. And I think Nelly is a fool. There is a thing called a self serving bias and he is suffering from it. That video was wrong and he is too proud to admit it.

Also some of you who have

Also some of you who have limied vocab will say 'hater' when I say this but at the most, Halle is average. She has a nic body and skin color but when people say she's gorgeous, I don't see it. And I have no probem admitting anothern female is attractive. Kerry W, Naomi Campbll, Cassie, etc are 10x's preetier than Halle. Just goes to show Beauty is subjetve.

Thank you Anon and Smarty...

Thank you Anon and Smarty... Thank goodness there are smart black people in this world! Do none of you understand the difference between a movie and a music video? The intention of that music video "Tip Drill" was to degrade women. These music videos keep making it seem as if the only good and deeming quality about a black woman is that she has a big booty and chest. The whole point of the vid was to get a bunch of black women with big boobs and fat asses to shake it in front of the camera and to make them hump each other for entertainment. Monster's Ball dealt with a woman who was lost and desperate and was willing to do anything to make herself feel good and confided with another lost and confused soul who at the end wanted nothing to do with his family and wanted to change for the better. Fact is, is that you don't have to like the character that Halle played in Monster's Ball. The purpose of that movie was to not make the viewer fall in love with Halle’s character. That sex scene was supposed to be raunchy and painful to watch. That scene of her f**king that white dude was a person who was f**king someone out of desperation and anger. She lost her son in a car accident - the one who she constantly humiliated and belittled. She realized quickly that constantly berating her child for his weight was meaningless - once she was holding her dead son in her hands. And she also lost her husband - who she desperately wanted back in her life. She was hurt and wanted to do anything possible to make herself feel good. How many people on this blog have done crazy ass things to make themselves feel good - for that temporary moment of gratification? Halle’s character was flawed but she was human. Don’t compare sliding a credit card down a woman’s ass to a bi-racial woman sleeping with a white man in a movie. Would the African-American community be happy if Halle Berry fucked a black dude? Would Nelly be saying the same thing if Halle slept with a black man? I doubt Nelly would be saying anything about Halle if she shared that sex scene with a black man. Come up with a new argument Nelly. Get over yourself and just deal with the fact that some women aren’t going to look at you with respect for what you did in that video.
