Cause Of Bow Wow's Hospitalization Released+Michael Vick Gets Sentenced

In yet another press release followed by mad album promo, Bow Wow's people sent a statement of why he was hospitalized last week:
It was previously reported that rap sensation Bow Wow has been hospitalized. Symptoms that were originally thought to be due to stress and exhaustion are actually the result of an infection of Bow Wow's appendix. Although the young superstar will be fine and is recovering, Bow Wow is fully expected to rejoin the sold out tour after the Baltimore date.
Interesting. And your favorite dog owning baller was sentenced to 23 months in federal prison today in Richmond.  The judge didn't give Mr. Vick the max sentence for his charges which is 5 years.  Still, somebody's career is a wrap.

I've read through the posts

I've read through the posts and cannot help but wonder why anyone would really feel sorry for Vick and his circumstance. First and foremost, as a wealthy NFL player he should have known better than to think he could live a "normal life." He chose to associate himself with people who continuously engaged in criminal activities. I understand that it is hard to disassociate one's self sometimes from childhood friends, but the truth of the matter is that it's lonely at the top, and the top is not made for everybody. We live in a capitalist society where the majority of the wealth, power and success is obtained by a minority of the population. That is just the way it is. So, in my opinion, Vick should have thought long and hard about the company he chose to keep and realized that the most important lesson in life, which is there is no honor among thieves. Furthermore, when it comes to coping a plea and serving less jail time, I truly believe only a LIMITED FEW would actually accept a longer sentence in lieu of snitching. Anyway, because Vick admitted to financing the dog fighting operation, I find it extremely hard to believe that he did not know what was going on in his own home at some point or another. He acknowledged being a willing participant in the execution of several dogs on his property. All the evidence is against him. With that said, how can we really say that he did not deserve the sentence he received? If he committed perjury and lied during trial, did he really and truly believe that he was so "above the law" that he would get a pass? I mean I know it is not completely off the mark to think this way given the results in the OJ trial, etc., but you see how the government is gunning for Barry Bonds and anyone else who allegedly lied about their steroid use. It seems like the whole world is cracking down on so-called celebrity "role models." Case in point: The judge in this case told Vick he should apologize to the millions of people who view him as a role model. Really? I don't think so. A human being is incapable of being a real role model as they are just as susceptible to sin and committing sin as the rest of us. Celebrities are human. Period. They each have their own story of how they acquired fame, and while I am not saying there is anything wrong in learning about their story especially if it mirrors your own, the truth is that they should not be glorified and idolized to the point where when they do something wrong it's deemed unforgiveable. The funny thing is maybe if this happened back in the day when Diddy was going back and forth to court, along with Foxy Brown and other celebs whom the justice system gave a slap on the wrist for commiting real offenses, Vick would have stood a better chance of getting off. However, if you notice the law is not playing when it comes to celebrities. Paris Hilton was escorted back to jail to serve her full sentence; Foxy Brown is serving a year in Rikers after given several chances to get herself together; Marion Jones and all the other alleged steroid users are on trial and/or awaiting sentencing; some other celebrity is in jail now serving 48 days for a DUI; Britney lost her kids, etc. The list goes on and on. Anyway, I cannot remember who it was that was making the point of this all being part of "the Man's" plan to keep us down, but in any case the writing is on the wall that despite the many advancements we as black people have made, the struggle still continues. It took more than two decades for the Supreme Court to declare the sentencing guidelines for crack and powder cocaine as excessive and unjust, but look how many of our men have served time and destroyed their lives and the lives of their families in the process? And what does this decision really mean if it's (a) not applied retroactively, and (b) our system remains broken and does not provide our youth with a decent education to ensure they don't end up in jail and/or prison like so many before them? The point is that Michael Vick's case, while disturbing no so much for the crime committed but the shear waste of talent and a human life, it should serve as both a warning and a wake-up call for black America and the world at-large. As you climb the ladder of success, you cannot continue to do the things that you used to do when you were just you. To whom much is given much is expected; and while yes, celebrities are mere human beings and should be seen as such, the public places an extremely burdensome and unfair amount of expectation on them to be more than human. Vick is a reminder to us that celebrities are human. He is a reminder to us that no matter how much power, wealth and fame a person has they can lose it ALL tomorrow, which is why humility is key at all times no matter how successful you become. Instead of feeling bad for Vick and criticizing what is already done, the question is what is he going to do when he gets out? What factors are in place and need to be in place to ensure that a man who may lose it all due to a bad decision does not continue to lose it all by making more bad decisions when he is released from prison? The recidivism rate in this country is so high because there are no real alternatives and deterents to crime when people are released. So they go back to what they know.

One has to wonder what kind of time other dog fighters have received. Making an example of Mr. Vick I'm sure hasn't done anything to stop the dog fighting. good for him hes a damn fool

good for him hes a damn fool anyway for involving himself in something so cruel .. he shouldve been thanking god for the fact that he was drafted into the NFl in the first place, he was making millions of dollars and shouldve appreciated it.. now hes having money trouble because his team owner now wants back the 20 million bonus they gave him and hes lost of all of his endorsements and his mothers house is on the line as well hes a damn fool for doing this to his mother.. he had enough money to live comfortable for the rest of his life and wouldve been able to take real good care of his mother as well, but black men are under in the impression that there equal to white men in todays society and there not!!!!!!! white men can do whatever they want and will never suffer the backlash of the public, but once black men do something your going to have hell to pay!!!!!!! 2 years behind bars for something so stupid as dog fighting!!!!! all of the broke bums who he thought was his friends he had in his house are the ones who told on his dumb ass, why the hell would they be happy for him having what he has while there broke as hell .. majority of the people from your neighborhood arent happy for you when you make it out and doing something positive with your life they wait for you to fall flat on your face and ass then there happy about it... now everybody in the hood is going to laughing there butts off at the fact that he will now be living right the hell back in the ghetto with all of them.. he came from nothing, he was dirt poor and that shouldve never left his mind- its called being HUMBLE!!!!!!!

I think Michael Vick was wrong and should be made accountable for his actions but, I believe 23 months fed time is excessive. If he had prior convictions or misdemeanor offenses for dog fighting or any other crime I would have agreed with the sentence. I think he should have been given probation, a reasonable fine and/or community service. Vick's life as a football player is over. I truly believe he will have a life after prison but it is up to him. Just a sad case of bad decisions.

Why does it always have to be

Why does it always have to be about race. Somethimes I think some blk ppl use their skin colo as an excuse. We want to be treated as equals one min and the next min we want to be cut some slack. We don't want white ppl using the N word but its ok for rappers, ppl who are in the limelight, to throw it around in their music. The same music that white kids listen to. We have to start respecting ourselves and stop giving white ppl a reason to think what they think. What Mike did was wrong and he should go to jail. He is lucky he got 23 mo at least its not 5 yrs. Man I wonder what i feels like to have it all one min and then have nothing the next min?

Michael Vick is a fool and he

Michael Vick is a fool and he should have known better. What pleasure do you get out of making dogs fight and torturing and killing them? That is absolutely sick. Let me make it known that I am not down for hunting as a sport either...I don't understand the pleasure that ppl get out of killing deer or bears, stuffing them and mounting them on their walls at all. But this is why that doesn't get as much flack in America....because there are ppl who lobby for hunters in Washington. Hunters have coalitions and groups that argue on their behalf and rally support or at least get ppl to turn a blind eye to those nasty practices. Its disgusting but if there were enough ppl who lobbied on behalf of dog-fighting then this would have worked out differently for Mike. Its all about power and influence, but he deserves the time he gets and maybe next time he won't be so barbaric and stupid and he will keep positive ppl around him who mean him well. And for the ppl who brought up R. Kelly; lets be real, the political scene in Chicago, the music industry and black ppl are to blame for his ability to dodge the charges. I have not purchased an R. Kelly album since the charges have been made public. I refuse to put money in his pocket....but how many of his "supporters" can say the same. When ppl constantly buy his material and see him in concert, you enable his behavior. He is still well-respected in the industry and ppl are lining up to work with him. Its almost a taboo to talk about his charges. Also, money talks...R. Kelly is paying the government off big time in Chicago...that is why his trial keeps getting pushed back

Bajan Sunshine: That was a

Bajan Sunshine: That was a great comment. I learned a lot from your writings. I used to think just like you. Yes, I admit that the government is coming after celebrities like never before. I admit that many celebrities have gotten 2 and 3 chances before now. But my position remains the same when it comes to this. Before I go there, let's first consider how the government is pursuing "regular" criminals v. "celebrity" criminals. I stand by my position of the "man" is trying to continue to hold us down. It is easy for a "free" individual to think they are free. I know you think you are free, but the fact of the matter is that you really are not. The "man" (and I will continue to use that phrase) has a very intricate plan for us. You and I included. Our families are included as well. HE does not differentiate between one that looks educated or is educated for that matter, and one that is not. Pay attention to the numbers of black men in jail right now as we speak. Most are guilty as Vick, yet some are not. Some penalties are just too harsh, yet there are many people who deserve to be in jail right now, and they are probably standing right next to you. The Man locks up the people that do the least harm realistically to society. Just look at the crack dealers; I know they committed a crime, and they deserve punishment for that, but what about the rapist that is never found, or the robber, or the domestically violent male? Why are we pursuing the crack dealer so vehemently, when it is true that he is causing harm, but the other criminals are literally holding people in mental prisons? Have you ever been victimized? Raped? Molested? Those are serious issues to deal with. Crimes like those affect the victim for LIFE. Why are we running after a drug dealer when we have people that are REALLY RUINING LIVES? Why are we running after Vick, when we could be after KELLY? The Man chooses his fights with a strategy. It is time that we notice this. Why are we running after Steroid users? That is a way to highlight some of black America’s best talent and totally discredit them. They don't have time for the REAL CRIMINALS because they are doing just what they want them to do. Destroy the few of us that they can't. Have you ever heard of the Willie Lynch letter? That was/is real. Traditional slavery ended, but modern slavery is alive and well. I am not saying that Vick should not be punished. He lied, committed the crime, showed no remorse for it, thought he could get away with it, he should be held accountable. I am simply saying that we have bigger fish to fry. Just look at education. Our children are not receiving a quality education by any stretch of the imagination. I know you know that. Education is the key to life. AIDS is an epidemic in our communities. Our jails and prisons are filled with it. Our men go to jail for a short time and come back with the disease. Then they bring it to us women. How else do you think it has been spreading so quickly? I hope you don’t think that black people were just lining up to contract this deadly disease. Why would countless numbers of our men be locked up for petty crimes? Think about it. The Man has a strategy. We need to acknowledge it and learn from it. We need to share ideas with each other. We need to educate people we think will listen. It is the only way to change our situation.
