No, Queen Latifah's Not Engaged & Aint Getting Hitched+Gabby Talks More Ish About the Media

Just as expected, the rumor of Queen Latifah being engaged to and ready to marry her trainer are false.  Surprise surprise.  The Chicago Sun Times chatted it up with Queen this weekend while the Perfect Holiday cast was in town for some movie promo.  She told the Times:
''When you're famous these days, it's just part of the deal -- unfortunately. People will make up all sorts of things that are not true. . . . There ain't gonna be no wedding.''
And yes, I believe the chick. I purposely refrained from entertaining this little rumor on The YBF for a few reasons. And those who like gossip with some credibility can feel me on that. So the e-mail influx about this in my inbox can stop now. But keeping it all the way funky...we all know Queen is still tapping the trainer. Gabby's pissy that the big bad media is marketing Perfect Holiday as solely an urban holiday movie:
No one calls Fred Claus the white Christmas movie. The Perfect Holiday is a movie about the holidays. It’s not race-specific. If there’s more than one black person in the movie, it’s an urban romantic comedy, an urban thriller - it’s just a flipping movie. The way kids think, the demographic they pander and chase - they don’t care. The same way guys are like, ‘Halle Berry’s hot, Jessica Alba’s hot’ - they don’t say, ‘She’s a hot black girl’ or ‘a hot Latina’. They notice trends, they buy movies they like, they Google people they like. It’s not race-specific… Give me a break. It’s an old-fashioned notion of marketing, and how they like to label things.”
Source: ONTD
Seeing that I haven't heard anybody call this the urban Holiday movie...I can't co-sign just yet.  And since (once again) she's lumped all media into one, who knows who she's talking about.  But whatev.

well, perhaps... just perhaps

well, perhaps... just perhaps she should do movies with more substance and focus on her craft than on what the media is or not doing. marketing is there to get people to see the movie to cover the cost of production and the pay people - it sells. gabby, please. too much south beach, girl.

Someone told me about this

Someone told me about this so-called "wedding" last night. I didn't believe it at all when I heard about it. But yes..I know for a fact that Queen Latifah has been dating her trainer for a long time. Latifah just doesn't wanna come out of the closet because the media is gonna make a huge deal about it, and it's sad that most of the black community is not going to be supportive of her open sexuality. That's the main reason why so many Black celebs are afraid to come out. But when Ellen and Rosie O'Donnnell came out, the white media and community praised them. Why can't black society do the same?
The problem isn't so much that they call movies with black people, "urban/black comedies, etc." it's that they DON'T identify movies with white folk as having anything to do with race. White people are a race too. So any story that shows them living their lives, is culturally and racially specific! The problem is white people have created a world where we see them as 'normal' and 'standard'. They are just 'people' while everyone else is (input 'ethnic' group)people. This is how white people are able to keep control and power over so many things. Their stories are supposedly 'universal', while everyone else's are not. If we see movie about two people in love, and they happen to be white, it's a movie about love. If the people are black, it becomes a movie about "black love"!!!! Or if they are Asian, "asian people in love". Even if no one says it explicitly, that's what everyone is thinking!!!! We all need to start recognizing white people as belonging to a specific culture.
I couldn't agree more. As a result of setting themselves as the 'gold standard' in many aspects of life--culture, family values, APPEARANCE, they have US trained to reject ourselves and how God made us in a quest to be 'normal'.

so nicely put! and not to get

so nicely put! and not to get to heady and all--but this points right to a theory called whiteness. Essentially this theory posits that white cultural norms, political assumptions and privileges that are assumed to be neutral or normal when really whiteness is it's own political and cultural position-- a position and identity that is mostly gained at the expense of nonwhites. So while Gabby is on point with her beef about being labeled an "other" when white films are considered "universal", I think she should stand by a film being a "Black" film because when "we" put our own cultural flavor in stuff like movies (especially with more than two of us in a movie)that does change the dynamic of the movie and we should be proud of that and not fear or care about what white people think or how they label us. I support good Black films not just any Black film.

Why do we continue to

Why do we continue to perpetuate the lie about Queen? It's our fault too. Why do we always say "her trainer" this and that? The media should just say "Queen Latifah and her girlfriend", period. In some way we're helping to keep her in the closet by referencing her girlfriend as her "trainer" all the time...And I agree with the pejorative comments about Gabby. You create your own reality. If she isn't being offered 'colorblind' roles, she needs to say that, rather than taking the stereotypical ones, then complaining after she gets paid.

"Just as expected, the rumor

"Just as expected, the rumor of Queen Latifah being engaged to and ready to marry her trainer are false." LOL her trainer, what trainer? The Queen has been a super plus-sized woman for like the last 15 years, her trainer(s) FAILED, yup, and miserably.. the only thing that she has been training is her arms, she teaches them how to bring food from a plate to her mouth within the shortest distance and quickest time possible. ----------> Gabby I have to say this, from one extremely good looking individual to another.. seriously, STFU chick.. you got your check for your part in the movie so go enjoy it on a beach somewhere and move on.. if you need a beach to lounge on I have to suggest Knuckle Villa down by my crotch, it's a nice warm cozy spot and the local is very friendly.. come on down.

Don't have time to read all

Don't have time to read all the post, sorry if I repeat. Don't care if "Queen is lesbian or rumored to be married". Everyone should get to know the ups and downs of marriage be them lesibian or gay. Queen is a great woman and a great actress. yes to the post I did read in the room. White people can say they are gay/lesbian and noone really cares and it does not ruin a career. With black folks to come out of the closet(so to speak) is career sucide. Do we really care? I think blacks think : gay, crack head, aides. A black is a black, a crack head is a crack head and a gay/lesbian is just that. No color or being a celebrity has anything to do with the other. People are just people. I like to know people are happy living their lives.

I wonder which race is behind the marketing and pr for the movie… And it kills me when Black people try to discredit when another has a valid point of racism. Well, not so much as discredit, but more so belittle. Can we get some back and forth dialogue going on, or maybe debate each point like adults. Never mind, I forgot which site I’m visiting; I might be talking to a wall. Carry on with the lace front jokes… *putting my fist down, getting of my soupbox*
PREACH!!!!!!!!!

Umm Gabrielle needs to go sit down somewhere, it is what it is, an urban movie. And Natasha, the only person I've heard with say it was an urban holiday movie is her very own co-star Queen Latifah. I think Gabby needs a reality chin check, she's not a crossover star, she's an urban one... She need not alienate her fan base, because she's not the hot black girl white boys are fantasizing about.

It's like going to China and asking for Chinese food.....over there it's just food because it's specific to their culture. Though the number of Hispanics in this country are climbing, white people stull run things and to them a movie with an all-black cast is foreign.

She sits at home and does online videos all day that show up on The Insider or TMZ. The Queen is worth more than that and she knows it. So what's better coming out or probably losing a lot of fan base & money? Hmmmm I think I would want to keep my funds coming in.

Queen Latifah needs to stop.

Queen Latifah needs to stop. Her “trainer” is the worst trainer in the world. Look how out of shape Queen Latifah is. I think Queen Latifah is more worried about losing that Cover Girl contract. -Gabby is right but then again Gabby is no Cate Blanchett or Angela Bassett. Her acting skills are mediocre at best and being the “Hot Girl” is how she and her management marketed her.

Gabby needs to get over

Gabby needs to get over herself...it is a urban comedy! that is the damn target market. if they wanted to appeal to a wider audience then they would have put in a more multicultural cast. next thing you know she will be complaining that they are not making enough "urban" movies. please get over yourself and cash your damn check! what is wrong with it being called a urban movie. just like there are certain elements of "white" movies that I can't relate to there are certain elements of "urban" movies that not everyone will relate to. it is called Marketing 101... you find your target audience and then cater to them. nothing wrong with that

Hair products have to be specific to hair type for quality care. & you can't deny that more often than not, "urban" is inexplicably Blk or Latin & is normally moreso the former. "Urban" is a so-called PC word for Blk, Latin, & Hip Hop lovers. She's right. Why can't it simply be a holiday flick? & when "urban" is used in its proper definition, it's an adjective for a city dweller & that person's habits. White ppl don't need labels because they're seen as normal, generic, & universal.
