Me888 and CorpAtty are right. The editor was making a point about how messed up Tighman's remarks were. Yes, he should have gotten permission from the board of the mag, BUT they wrongly fired him in my opinion. Yes, I am black and proud to be black and I say that hey were wrong to outright fire him.
Now we have a otherwise sympathetic editor who is out of a job and pissed off at how the overly sensitive white folks respond to the overly sensitive black folk. Watch him go work for "New American" just out of spite.
This is what happens when we refuse to pick our battles carefully.
With that said, I concur 100% that there is a problem when Tiger's good friend talks about lynching him and he defends her instead. That dude needs a reality check.
Some dumbass magazine cover is the least of Black America's problems. We need to look within and correct.
I'm gonna weigh in with you on this one. Take the ghetto out of the nikkuh and such.....
I think Tiger's reaction or lack of reaction has to do with the fact that he and his have endured worst treatment within the golf world. I think his response is to beat them at their own game and break down barriers that exist in doing so. While this strategy worked for him the past he should change it now because he is at the top of his field and he has the clout to address racism within golf when it occurs.
The editor of this magazine used this incident as an opportunity to glorify a sentiment that many whites within golf share... I am glad he was swiftly dealt with. May justice always be so swift for us.
For those who say Blacks are over-reacting, I say,
A noose is the equivalent of what a German Swastika is to a Jewish person, it denotes hatred and death.
Tiger Woods reaction was correct for the mistake the reporter made (he has known her for 11 years)
The problem of the magazine was dealt with correctly, the editor and also the vice-president was fired.
America has come a long way. Years back Whites would have circled-the-wagon and defended this "hate speech", but they now know better and didn't wait for it to become a us versus them problem.

To over react does make it a issue. Funny thing is he did not over react and it is still a black/white issue with others. He is a people pleaser and problaby does not realilze what the "I Have A Dream" speech really means. He is just happy making money and smile in the face of others that still consider him a "black boy". Maybe he does not care at all. Fame trumps what color u r. and he and his wife r laughing all the way to their onling bank/stock accounts. Martin Luther King Jr had a dream. His dream was for equality and not for ppl of any color to make songs that use the N word and get rich doing it. His dream to me is that we all understand that we live in the same world and we can all be human and live together as one.
my strategy...vote for Obama for the primary, and if he wins, vote for him again in the main election. If he doesn't win, vote for Hillary...I don't see what's wrong with that...it's very strategic. For those supporting Tiger's comment: first of all, he does not even identify himself as being black, but as a Caublination...2 letters! This goes to show that the more you assimilate with whites, no matter how much money you have, you cannot ignore the fact that there are racists out there talking mess behind your back, and will blow up and surface one day like it did here. This is definitely NOT a non-issue...if his "friend" was genuine, she wouldn't have spewed that vile racist comment. That's just like a white person saying, "I'm not racist, I have many black friends." That doesn't mean a damn thing...what does not make you racist is if you treat them as equal to yourself, and only judge people on the basis of their personality and character, and not stereotyping...one
I didnt hear anything about this lady saying this until I watch "best Week Ever" (which is sad that thats where I'm getting this info from) ... but quoting Doug Benton from that show, what she said was "Not oK-K-K!"
Racism is not 'cool' & its not funny. Why she thought people would laugh at that little comment, I don't know.
WHITE AND BLACK PEOPLE HAD BETTER WAKE UP, THE JEWS, AND THE ARABS OWN THE WORLD.
How very, very ignorant. Speaking as a Jew, I want to know where my profit is from "owning" the world. Furthermore, being Jewish isn't a racial thing. Jews are made up of nearly every ethnicity in the world. So by your statement, some black Jews are also owners of the world.
I have not had time to read all the comments here h/w I do want applaud all of these wonderful voices. In the midst of all it all, there are some really important/ world-changing events taking place. I am a Obama supporter. I encourage everyone to send in a donation. Commercials cost! Anyway, my parents also support Hillary. It is indefensible. In fact, I consider it treason. Anyway, he has a chance to win.Let's support him these primaries. Ya' dig?
Just stating the obvious: you should support a candidate because of what he/she has to say, because of what he/she does. Supporting someone because of his/her color and/or his/her gender is... racism/sexism.
May the best candidate or the job win.
MG Green,
The editor was saying that Tighman put herself and the rest of the golf commentators in a "noose" b/c of her stupidity. He chose to use a electrifying image to make folks pick the mag up (this is debatable, and I'm on the fence about the use of the image), but his point was that Tighman had essentially hung HERSELF with her asinine statement.
I fully agree that Tiger has the clout now to speak on these issues. He should have, no doubt about it, spoke unequivolcally about it in public, and then privately told his friend "hey it's nothing personal. It's just business in the media. You know we're still cool.".
We spoke about this last night on the internet radio sports talk show that I co-host. The editor claimed he wanted to spark an intelligent discussion...but ignorance breeds anything but.
THiS iSH iS JUST RiDiCULOUS! ARE ALL THE WHiTE PPL((NO OFENSE)) TRYiNG TO KiLL US BLACK PPL?? WHAT iS THIS? i SURLY THOUGHT THiS WAS 2008! ALL THiS HATE HAS TO STOP!!
The mag already issued an apology & fired the editor-in-chief. I dont know how it was possible to get pass the entire contributors of the mag w/out someone raising hell. It seems like when blacks get to the top they are lost for words when it comes to defending their race. Just like that white commentator on ESPN who made a racial comment about of one of the black players and the black commentator didnt day anything, just looked stupid.
When I saw the person who wrote the article on CNN I could not only belive that he wrote it, but the fact that he did not take into consideration that many would be offened by it. For what its worth he did get fired the next day.

White ppl are not trying to kill us they love black on black crime and could care less about unsolved black murders in our communities. I hate when they say I don't normally talk like that , it just slipped out or I did not mean to say that. My favorite is "It was taken out of context".
Just a wake up call for everyone that race is still an issue.
eggsactly, even in the elite world of golf, you cant run from it, SMMFH.
It's really SAD, what else can be said?? When you think your moving up & out it is always something to push you back down & further in!!! It is a real shame that nobody even realizes that they should learn from others mistakes (ie. Imus & others) you have to know that no one in the black community would find this at all funny but somehow they are always trying to push the button, then when we get out of our character to defend it thats when we become "ignorant & acting like niggas" can you blame us!! For the longest time I always thought white people "thought" they had the authority or upperhand so to speak over us, In 08 I refuse to keep that concept in my mind & it is definitley time for a change!! Lastly why of all things on the cover of a golf magazine the one sport they wouldn't dare have us play for years & now we have all types of comedians, actors, etc. all of color playing the sport including Tiger Woods whom to me doesn't stand up to defend himself enough but I guess they don't even see him as one of us since he's not 100%!! I feel I have said too much, Im thru!!!
I don't think they are all racists either. I do think that there a lot of them with power who will never look at a black person as their equal. I Don't think that when Oprah was not the owner of all of who she is now that she was respected and taken seriously. At the end of the day in her struggle for power she had two strikes-A black woman. But she shows you can be what you dream.
Coincedence this cover comes up after the comment was made by that woman about Tiger being hung on a noose or something like that...its like damn this shyt is bold as hell and they dont even care - f-ed up!
Wake up you idiots. The white man is perpetrating cowboys and indians all over again here, the Middle East and other places right in your faces, and you're to blind to realize it. Oh yeah! Don't forget to vote. Every candidate regardless of color is on the side of the cowboys(White Supremacy in your face). Wake up recognize STUPID!
This just means WE have 2 fight harder, be smarter so WE can be the editor in chiefs, u feel what im sayin? we have 2 be better than them so WE have the authority & power 2 say, "THIS IS NOT RIGHT THIS IS DISRESECTFUL, HATEFUL, & U ARE FIRED."
Now that's what drives me 2 be the best. Black people, we can do it!
We know that race will always be an issue... ALWAYS. What saddens me is that you have people who are scared to stand up for themselves. Look at Tiger... he SHOULD have said something to stand up not only for himself, but for his race as well. Instead he says that he wasn't offended. He needs to be offended, he offends me. Ish if effin' crazy.

that's good to know. i can't believe i didn't hear about this sooner. it's such a sad state in america. just a mess.
well people i see its time to put pen and paper and picket signs together once again. Everytime they do this type of foolishness we need to start hitting them up. Make this nonense stop. The closer we get to get our black president the more foolishness we will see. GO OBAMA!!!!
oh people get OVER yourselves! i get so tired of oversensitive black people.
the editor of the magazine chose the picture because it was complete relevant to the story.
was it just a noose and a caption that said "Git 'im boys" ??? NO!
i'd wager that about 90 percent of the people up in arms about the cover don't even know the complete story behind it.
did it ever occur to you that the noose was choosen to intentionally bring attention to a story that warranted exposure.
i'm so shit of this sh*t: a noose is automatically racist, being called black is automatically an insult...
all we're doing is spinning our wheels and, meanwhile, some of the worst hate comes from within the black community.
yes, blacks have been victimized in various ways, but that doesn't mean we have to continued to behave as victims!

IT'S NOT A COINCIDENCE, dumba$$; that's what the article is about!
see, this is the shit i'm talking about. this is what gets legitimate racist claims blown off as just another black person with a chip on it's shoulder.
READ PEOPLE. READ READ READ.
you can't fault ignorance when you are yourself desparately ignorant.
Pashin, seriously I'm concerned with how utterly stupid you are. Take your head out of your angry hole for a second and learn to f'ing READ. The noose is not a coincidence (perhaps you should look up the meaning of the word). The story was talk ABOUT THE TIGER INCIDENT.

I agree with your comment. I didn't see a black person hanging from that noose, in effigy. The gist of the article was that TILGHMAN made a stupid azz statement and that the GOLF CHANNEL couldn't wiggle free; so basically, if anyone was caught up in that noose reference, it was those two, not Tiger and not black people. Damn, let's get angry about the mother and child that was shot by the police, after raiding her house because her man was selling drugs from there. Let's get angry about these fools putting their family in harm's way because they choose to sell drugs in the house where their family resides.
