Fablife2008....Of course it's not our responsibility to educate anyone but our own children...don't be silly. Like I said though, most people are racist because of ignorance. If you go up a couple of comments you'll see that Shulamite is smart enough to understand that this noose could've meant more than anything racist. In could in fact be construed to mean that this reporter did indeed hang herself by saying this...and if the only people you've ever seen hanging from a noose are black then my suggestion would be to pick up a few books at your local library. Have we been completely shit on by society? Absolutely. Are there people that totally downgrade this fact? Yep. But don't get mad at me...holla @ ya boy Tiger cuz it seems like he's not even affected at being the butt of their racist jokes and he's not even trying to correct them for their mistakes. And lastly...good call...maybe we SHOULD call a white university to see if they can teach their white students about a culture that none of them know anything about.....RIGHT!! Go kill yourself dummy. If you're not willing to do anything about the problem....be it racism or anything else, then you're just accepting it so stop complaining. And BTW my opinion will always be relevant thankyouverymuch....how YOU doin??

my strategy...vote for Obama for the primary, and if he wins, vote for him again in the main election. If he doesn't win, vote for Hillary...I don't see what's wrong with that...it's very strategic. For those supporting Tiger's comment: first of all, he does not even identify himself as being black, but as a Caublination...2 letters! This goes to show that the more you assimilate with whites, no matter how much money you have, you cannot ignore the fact that there are racists out there talking mess behind your back, and will blow up and surface one day like it did here. This is definitely NOT a non-issue...if his "friend" was genuine, she wouldn't have spewed that vile racist comment. That's just like a white person saying, "I'm not racist, I have many black friends." That doesn't mean a damn thing...what does not make you racist is if you treat them as equal to yourself, and only judge people on the basis of their personality and character, and not stereotyping...one

I think Tiger's reaction or lack of reaction has to do with the fact that he and his have endured worst treatment within the golf world. I think his response is to beat them at their own game and break down barriers that exist in doing so. While this strategy worked for him the past he should change it now because he is at the top of his field and he has the clout to address racism within golf when it occurs. The fact is that a noose

The fact is that a noose represents lynching!! So, if one of your relatives was killed by being lynched, how would you feel? Someone whom you know, body swingin from side to side. That is one of the most horrific things that can be afflicted upon anyone. The visual of that alone should be enough that should charge one to action! And anyone who says that we are being insensitive about this is criminal! We cannot simply sit back and allow people to make jokes about our people being lynched in an alley, we cannot allow people to call our black women nappy headed ho's on national radio etc. Tiger Woods should have spoken out about what was said. It was an insult to him and all african-americans because white folks back in the day didnt think twice about going out at night, going to a black families home for no reason, dragging a black man or woman out of that home and stringing him or her up against a tree and lynching him in cold blood!!! For no reason at all! And you say we are being too sensitive? What will it take for us to see that this is 2008 and it is an injustice!! Open up your eyes and see that this needs to stop, NOW! They should have fired the woman who initially made the joke about lynching Tiger in the back of an alley; which prompted the noose ad on the cover of Newsweek by a careless and insensitive editor. There is no excuse for that at all! And black on black crime is also something that needs serious addressing. Yes, that is wrong as well and we are still a nation of healing. I am still upset by the Jena 6 situation and how our president responded (or lack of responding to)the incident of hurraine Katrina. Until we elect a president that really understands&wants to deal with our unique problems, this country will continue to deteriorate. So, I say this: Instead of complaining, what are YOU going to do about all this? Consider electing Backack Obama for change. I think he can really help our nation in this crisis. We need to work together, understand each other, and bury racial prejudice, bigotry and hate. Peace..and remember to vote and those who are not registered to vote, do so NOW because your voice counts!

Do you want someone who can campaigne the most money for their race for the presidency or someone who will decrease our defecit without increasing our taxes? Do we want more Homeland Security and are troops to come home. Every great debator can talk the talk and walk the walk. It is up to us to read between the lines. It is our next 4 years at stake.

What do you expect? It was

What do you expect? It was just half a century ago that our grandparents, and for some of us, our parents were not permitted to use the same restrooms, eat in the same restaurants, etc. as their white counterparts. We’d be fools to believe that their way of thinking hasn’t been passed along to their offspring; it’s clearly being displayed today. They don’t give a sh*t about how we feel about it either; they’re being as blatant with it as they were in the days of legal segregation here lately. Why? Because they know that neither Al nor Jesse, or anyone else for that matter is gonna step up and be willing to fight the long hard uphill battle that Medgar, Dr. King and numerous others along with our parents and grandparents fought…we settle for simple firings now. At least our forefathers came out of their struggle with a whole host of demands that were met (which made life a lot easier for today’s black youth)…some good paying factory jobs and a few government positions when the revolution of the 60’s was abruptly halted. Now, we’re content when an Imus gets fired, or when a magazine’s chief editor is dismissed (They’ll both end up making more money then they previously did); and some say that the blacks of the 60’s revolution sold themselves short; yeah right! I have to give it up to the 20,000 or so blacks who flooded the streets of Jena, La. though; but scenes like that are far and in between when they’re needed just about weekly. As far as Barack for President… this is a republicans dream, a woman and a brotha both of the democratic party running for the presidency of the United States; the democratic vote is gonna be parted like the Red Sea, leaving the doors wide open for another round of voter fraud by the republicans thus allowing them to take the white house; again!

The cover was meant to

The cover was meant to highlight how the commentator's remarks that Tiger Woods be "lynched in a back alley" went too far. However, he did not get permission from higher ups before selecting a noose for the cover, hence he was fired the next day. Regardless of his intentions, ill or not, he should have known that this is a sensitive subject that would insight negative reaction to it. Furthermore, Tiger continues to pretend that he is not a black man and that he is not recognized by others as a black man. When one of your "good friends" that you know "very well" and "personally meant no harm" starts to make any reference to you being lynched, that is a problem. Particularly when, in the wake of Jena, nooses have been sent anonymously to different black people (at least in the state of NY), it is your duty to take a stand against means that are meant to intimidate. Unfortunately, this is the America that we live in and we have to do better and others need to open their eyes to the fact that this is not an equal society and black people continue to be stigmatized and seen as inferior.

Golfweek Magazine, as part of

Golfweek Magazine, as part of a package of stories on the controversy involving Golf Channel anchor Kelly Tilghman's comment that players should "lynch [Tiger Woods] in a back alley," used the image of a noose on the cover of its Jan. 19 issue. That decision has added fuel to a flap which has seen Tilghman suspended for two weeks from her anchoring duties. Woods' agent said he considers Tilghman's remark a "non-issue." Golfweek is one of two major national golf news magazines. Golf World, which has an editorial relationship with ESPN.com, is the other. "Was it an arresting image? Yes, it was," Golfweek editor Dave Seanor told USA Today. "We chose it because it was an image we thought would draw attention to an issue we thought deserved some intelligent dialogue." "There was a great deal of debate over it," Seanor said of the magazine's in-house deliberations, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. "But it was the news of the week, no question about it. That's what everybody in the game is talking about." Seanor said he was overwhelmed by negative reaction to the photo while he was attending the PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando, Fla. "We knew that image would grab attention, but I didn't anticipate the enormity of it,'' Seanor said. "There's been a huge, negative reaction. I've gotten so many e-mails. It's a little overwhelming.'' The Golfweek staff previously had scheduled a meeting with PGA Tour officials Thursday morning, and Seanor said the noose quickly became "item 1-A" on their agenda. He said dozens of customers at the merchandise show stopped by the Golfweek stand and put an issue in their bag, with some stopping to discuss and complain. "Most people who are objecting to it -- within the golf industry -- are saying this episode was just about over," Seanor said. "I think it's indicative of how, when you bring race and golf into the same sentence, everyone recoils." In the magazine's news story noted sociologist Harry Edwards said the public should accept Tilghman's apology. "If we stopped the train every time somebody made a dumb remark that is potentially offensive," he is quoted as saying, "we'd never progress as a society." Golf Weekly Golfweek's controversial cover for its Jan. 19 issue. The magazine has removed it from its Web site. PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem, in a statement, said: "Clearly, what Kelly said was inappropriate and unfortunate and she obviously regrets her choice of words. But we consider Golfweek's imagery of a swinging noose on its cover to be outrageous and irresponsible. It smacks of tabloid journalism. It was a naked attempt to inflame and keep alive an incident that was heading to an appropriate conclusion." During Golf Channel's Jan. 4 telecast of the Mercedes-Benz Championship, Tilghman was in a conversation with analyst Nick Faldo about how PGA Tour players could stop Woods' dominance when she used the phrase about lynching. Golf Channel received few complaints at the time. Tilghman apologized personally to Woods and on the telecast two days later. Asked if he regretted the cover, Seanor paused before answering. "I wish we could have come up with something that made the same statement but didn't create as much negative reaction," he said. "But as this has unfolded, I'm glad there's dialogue. Let's talk about this, and the lack of diversity in golf." He denied the cover was an attempt to sell more magazines, noting that Golfweek is 99 percent subscriptions. "I was a little shocked by the commissioner's reaction," he said. "It was rather strong, particularly from someone who rarely comments on things on his own tour." Seanor said he was struck by the paucity of black customers among the thousands of people at golf's largest merchandise exposition. "Look at the executive suites at the PGA Tour, or the USGA, or the PGA of America. There are very, very few people of color there," he said. "This is a situation in golf where there needs to be more dialogue. And when you get more dialogue, people don't want to hear it, and they brush it under the rug. This is a source of a lot of pushback." Seanor said he expected canceled subscriptions over the issue. He was not sure how it would affect advertising. Rev. Al Sharpton, in an interview on CNN on Jan. 9, called for Tilghman to be fired. Later that night, Tilghman was suspended prior to the Sony Open in Hawaii. She is also missing this week's Bob Hope Chrysler Classic. She is scheduled to return for the Buick Invitational, which ironically is Woods' first scheduled appearance of the year on the PGA Tour. In an editorial in the magazine, the editors wrote: "Like it or not, Tilghman's 'Lynch him in a back alley' remark about Tiger Woods was national news. The debate about the severity of her punishment -- at this writing a two-week suspension -- fueled heated debate on Web sites, in newspapers and on national TV. The furor begs rational analysis." Prior to Tilghman's suspension,Woods' agent, Mark Steinberg, said, "it is a complete non-issue. Kelly and Tiger are friends. It might have been a poor choice of words, but there was absolutely no ill intent whatsoever." Tilghman issued her own statement, saying she "used some poorly chosen words. I have known Tiger for 12 years and I have apologized directly to him. I also apologize to our viewers who may have been offended."
oh people get OVER yourselves! i get so tired of oversensitive black people. the editor of the magazine chose the picture because it was complete relevant to the story. was it just a noose and a caption that said "Git 'im boys" ??? NO! i'd wager that about 90 percent of the people up in arms about the cover don't even know the complete story behind it. did it ever occur to you that the noose was choosen to intentionally bring attention to a story that warranted exposure. i'm so shit of this sh*t: a noose is automatically racist, being called black is automatically an insult... all we're doing is spinning our wheels and, meanwhile, some of the worst hate comes from within the black community. yes, blacks have been victimized in various ways, but that doesn't mean we have to continued to behave as victims!
I agree with your comment. I didn't see a black person hanging from that noose, in effigy. The gist of the article was that TILGHMAN made a stupid azz statement and that the GOLF CHANNEL couldn't wiggle free; so basically, if anyone was caught up in that noose reference, it was those two, not Tiger and not black people. Damn, let's get angry about the mother and child that was shot by the police, after raiding her house because her man was selling drugs from there. Let's get angry about these fools putting their family in harm's way because they choose to sell drugs in the house where their family resides.
