Here's one for the Dead Beat Daddy Files. Sean Levert, brother of the late Gerald Levert and 1/3 of LeVert R&B group, was sentenced to jail in Cleveland, Ohio this past Monday for failure to pay child support. The rundown: Sean Levert will spend the next 22-months behind bars. Levert owes $85,427.68 in back child support for his three children - ages 11, 15 and 17. Levert was sentenced Monday by Judge Nancy Margaret Russo. He did not speak at his sentencing.

Whoa whoa..How do ya'll know that they did not have an arrangement? He could've been paying support, something that they agreed upon, then she could've got mad and called the gov on his ass and all that he gave her is just null and void. He's gonna get what is coming to him no doubt, but this victimizing men and not knowing the whole story bull is foolishness. I know there are bad men out there, but women trap men, honestly, she could have been emotionally tied to him and making babies with him to make him stay. Don't judge a man and you haven't walked a mile in his shoes.

You guys don't know what he was doing for his children. He could have had them all the time but he still may be required to pay an insane amount of money that he may not have anymore. These kids could be from a former wife. It's a shame that mothers get paid this amount of money to take care of kids. Kids are expensive don't get me wrong but kids aren't that expensive. The state should be ashamed of it's self for giving a mom that probably does nothing that amount of money.

first i think it pretty sad how people are quick to judge a person by some bs they hear or see on the net. second just because your not registered with the state does not mean your not paying child support. those kids gear and clothes are more than my salary yearly every name brand whatever i don't want to disrespect the kids but their mamas were on the road more than the group bottom line gold diggers. i know all of them and i have never seen them with out . stop giving women so much credit there is a lot of sorry ass women out there.

There is no excuse in this;

There is no excuse in this; as much as I love the Levert/Gerald Levert/O'Jays. Even if the music and acting doesn't pan out, dude could have gotten 2 jobs, and acted he was paying something to keep the heat off. I do not blame his father Eddie for not getting involved in this situation; he has his own life, as well as getting older, and cannot be bothered with his son's mishaps. Black men need to step up, man up, and be a father to their children; for those same children may have to give their fathers the last glass of water before they leave this earth. I'm wondering if Gerald would have been alive, he would have probably bailed Sean out, because he always felt responsible for bringing Sean into the music business. My prayers will always be continuing for the Levert family.

I do feel for Sean Levert

I do feel for Sean Levert because my bother have to pay 650 a month for one child and he is got to have a roof over his head. In other word the child support people don't give a dam even if you have to sleep on the street. Most of the time the payment is more than what you make and it is very easy to get behind. My bother is behind 32,000 and pay his support every month or what he can. He bring home about 120 every week now how can a person live. Don't look down on him because we don't know what happen leave it up to God to judge him. I worked with children and sometimes I understand why. A alot time women wait until they get mad and go tell they never did anything there you go they already behind by then. Why would they waited 15 years to say he owe 85,000?

these are not your average

these are not your average women they saw opportunity and sucked it till the well ran dry. thought they would be with him for life i know sean and he would give you his last dollar money and material thing meant nothing to him just like G family came first. how many broke , hunger , homeless , people you know drive mercs , beamers, lexus , wear prada , gucci, etc... own homes etc... you judge for your self. please just prey for the brother .

for the dads @#$% what people say and think about you the state , babies mama who ever. money is not ever thing it helps but not everything be there for your child. i know its hard to face them sometimes when you don't have because of pride but what you do have is more important YOUR TIME call on the phone try at least once a week, be there when he or she is sick , walk them to school get involved as a friend , parent, and a teacher . give them a little credit kids are much smarter than we think they just need guidance. bottom line if you do that no one will ever be able to say your a dead beat dad to your kids it won't matter you only have to answer to GOD and your child.

It's too many diseases out here and the way they flip flop in Hollywood, how dare you not protect yourself. I guess people feel they are going to get paid one way or the other, however, in this case, the baby mama(s) learned the hard way -- they aint getting jack!! Yeah the man need to take more responsibility and love himself enough not to have unprotected sex, however, the woman is is at fault as well, if not more.

Inspite of whatever type of personal relationship Levert had with the children and how and why he chose to have children with the woman (women? - sorry, I don't recall ever hearing anything about his personal life and I didn't feel like searching the 'net.), the bottom line is his not paying/unable to pay child support payments. Honestly, I have no problem with a court of law calling a parent out for not taking care of their kids. But he's going to jail for 2 years, how's he suppose to pay for child support in the meantime? Would the judge force him to sell off any homes or cars he might have? I mean seriously, what's the point of taking a father out of the job market when you want him to pay the kids' bills?

The problem is these men don't see that the reason for your "bad luck", "misfortune" or for their "hard times" is the fact that KHARM is a B!TCH! If they don't have a paternal instict then they atleast need to start thinking about their children being similar to a 401K or a retirement plan - you have to invest in it while your young so that you will reap the benefits and it will take care of you when you are old. My son's father thinks that his position (being a father) is part-time also & i am trying to instill in my son right now, while he is young, that you have to take care of your responsibilities. If it's yours - take care of it! And he has no excuse - it appears (cuz u never REALLY know what's going on behind closed doors) that Eddie Levert took care of his kids - so what is Sean's problem? He had a good example in his life. We've got to stop this in this generation - this cycle CAN NOT continue.

So what about these trifling baby mothers who's supposedly on birth control and get pregnant but it's the dad's fault? Even if he is the best father ever she's still trifling and puts him on child support. It seems like a lot of you women just have had a bad experience with your baby daddy or you know someone who has. There are good fathers out there that take care of there kids and pay daycare and put clothes on their kids back and food in their moth and have them just as much time as the mother and have to deal with a crazy/controlling baby momma.

jswang, you sound like had a bad experience!! The bottom line is both partners should be protecting themselves regardless of what the the woman say. NO ONE SHOULD BE HAVING SEX UNPROTECTED!! Yes, there are a lot of fathers taking care of there kids, however, they are not suppose to get no special treatment because they are doing what they are suppose to do. No one get special credit for taking care of their responsibility. I'm not a baby mamma, because I'm am worth more and value myself too much to be a baby mama!! However, I am product of being raised by one parent, my mother didn't take my father to court, because she knew the consequences of her actions. Once she made the decision to have me, she knew that regardless if my father was in the picture or not, I would her responsibility and she was not depending on anyone but herself to take of me and she did without the government help, but working two job and doing what she had to do.

I know someone who is going through it right now. Some women do get mad and use kids as a control factor if things don't work out with the father. So yes, I feel its a shame that someone has to go through that if they are taking care of there responsibilities.
