Music Fab: Nas’ “Be A Nigg*r Too”+Exclusive Teairra Mari “No No No” Track

MacMedan/Wireimage

The single “Be A Ni**er Too” is the first official release from Nas’ album controversially entitled N**er. Check it:

There’s indeed a message he’s relaying to the masses, but I have a feeling this is about to cause a whole lot of ruckus.

And Teairra Mari is back just as I reported last week. The YBF exclusively has her first single “No No No” with her new label Interscope. Check it:

She’s also the newest face for Jean Addicts. The same company that Ne-Yos ex/baby mama is the face of as well. Let me find out this chick Teairra got voice lessons because this track sounds hella better than her “Make A Girl Feel” style tracks did. Work it out then Teairra.

The sad thing is I use to think Nas was intelligent, but I guess since he had to come up with a gimmick to sell some albums he had to do something stupid. I know there are mixed views on the N work, and I respect that; however, we have to remember black people are not the only ones who listen to hip-hop. So you are giving all those white, hispanic, and asian kids the right to say the word N****. We wonder why we are treated like second class citizens in our own country. We don’t respect ourselves. You don’t see Emenim making a record call “Cracker”,”Honkey”, or “Redneck”. Why do we have to degrade ourselves for a dollar?

AMEN! I don’t understand it at all! I think it is the most ignorant and divisive ish out. I will never be a NAS fan anymore. EVER. I can’t respect that ish. Making the word “NIGGER” fashionable, as if it is some trend is ridiculous. Nas makes me sick.

I agree! I’m too through. He was the one that said Hip Hop was dead and it must be for him to name his cd that foolishness. We’re never gonna rise above ignorance in the eyes of other races. They laugh at us and now they are going to say why did that Kramer guy get hassled for using the N word when it’s ok for us to use it and wear Ni**er apparel. Why doesn’t he just trade in his gold chains for a noose to match his outfit! Trying to make Ni**er a style or a “trend” is ridiculous. I thought we were trying to erase this word from our vocabulary anyway..where does it end?? He should be trying to get God back into schools and spread that Word instead!!

I agree. It only gives people the opportunity to start stuff just cause he said it. Plus you can’t just allow one race the only right to say a word no matter what it is. In school it only took seeing the word from the books we were required to read, to start the hanging threats and racist remarks so I know ignorant people are gonna start something. I agree we shouldn’t allow a word to hold us back, but we also should glorify it as it’s holy when it comes from a racist past.

NAS is not a”throw yo hands in the air” MC. Anyone who has followed his career and put ear to his music understands that he always has something to say to make you open your mind and actually “hear” the message he’s sending. No matter if you agree with the N word being used or not, you cant deny that the word is power and me personally,if it’s going to be used…why not use it to teach instead of “What up my N****” or “F*** you N****” Because let’s face it…the word is not going anywhere. The word N***** will always be apart vocabulary. Maybe not everybody’s, but apart of someones none the less. True…the word N***** is a word of our past that holds much negativity and strife in the lives of us as Black people, but slavery also holds the same things of our past. Should we abolish the teachings of that as well? Just a thought.

I defintely understand your point; indeed, it brings a positive light on his “movement”. However, unlike historic teachings of Slavery, his approach in educating our people about this word is used through a very glamorous medium. If you look at the picture, it appears to me , that he and his wife are glamorizing this word. I do feel that we need to educate ourselves on any term or mindset that has caused our people to be enslaved or in bondage, but it is just as important to be respectful and sensitive to such teachings. I really don’t believe that glamorizing, commericalizing, and profiting off such a degrading word is the answer or the way to teach our people and the world, to be sensitive to that part of history.

There’s no denying that Hip Hop or the Rap world is HUGE right now. People don’t even bother picking up books anymore to educate themselves. I was in the library just the other day and it was quiet only because nobody was there. NAS understands that to get people to listen, he has to first get their attention. Sadly, the world we live in today calls sometimes for the extreme. Think about it, if NAS and Kelis hadn’t taken that picture with their clothes exposing the word, we probably wouldn’t even be holding this intellectual conversation right now. We’d be discussing or reading something irrelevant about Beyonce.

Im a little heated! Just had to come back and say that all every black person who disagrees with the message in Nas’ song or any other rap artist needs to stand up against it! In your own circle of affiliates, let it be known in some way (eg. having discussions, putting up posts/videos on myspace, youtube etc.) that calling ourselves niggers is a slap in our ancestors faces, our own faces, and are we making it any better for our children!!!??? It’s idiotic!!!!! Our ancestors fought to reach a level where they could be respected by the ruling hand in this country and what are we doing? We don’t even have an idea of what it must have been like to have burning crosses in our front yards, to be hosed down with high pressure hoses, to see a sign on a restaurant door that says that YOU are not allowed spend your own money there to eat! PEOPLE! This is so sickening! Think about the crap that many of our artist’s are representing us with! Chew on the lyrics that these rappers are spitting about us “NIGGERS & BITCHES”! R-E-S-P-E-C-T right? Not! and after youre done chewing on it and you realize the idiocracy in our African American musical culture - do something about it in every big or small way that you can. Don’t make anyone you encounter think that it is ok to disrespect you, your family, or the race God placed you in.

When people hear the word NIGGER, automatically, Black people come to mind. I’m guilty of it myself. But the word NIGGER is a word that was labeled upon us, it’s meaning never originated with us. The word NIGGER simplistically means IGNORANT…not BLACK. If you LISTEN to the song NAS is telling how society has fell into a state of IGNORANCE and that it’s not only Black people in society who are ignorant. All races are trying to follow the masses now a days, trying to emulate what we see or hear. That’s why he says “KYKE NIGGERS, SPIC NIGGERS, CHINC NIGGERS” we all have let a sense of ignorance seep in. He realizes it even in himself and ask why would you want to be ignorant? Ignorance causes a mind state for bad decisions and outcomes. Hence the line “They like to strangle niggas, kill a nigga, shoot a nigga, hang a nigga, still you think you wanna be a nigga too?” At least this is what I’m taking from the song. I’m sure everyone has there own take on it. NAS is too much of a “movement MC” to just be throwing the word NIGGER around for no reason. There is always a method to his madness whether you agree with it or not.

I see N-ish behavihor all the time, and boy, it hurts my soul. The N-word will not die unless the ways and means of society dies, too. All I know is, all you NAS supporters better not get salty when these white people (the biggest consumers of hip-hop music) call you “nigger” in the streets, on your jobs and in your homes. You better not say shit because you asked for this. This fuckery is a damn publicity stunt to sell CDs. I am so mad right now. We have to bring everything down to the lowest possible level. I was at event last week for Italian-Americans and they were bragging about how they were the 2nd richest ethnic group in this country. Number one are the Jews. Both groups came to this country with nothing a made it. Jews stress education, Italian stress unity. In the mainstream media, we stress ignorance, violence, poverty, thug culture, drug abuse, etc. Is that what we want to known for? We act like we have no God or sense of dignity. We give 50 cent power to bash Alicia Keys. We need to get behind Obama because the Republicans are out to get him. We even allow VH1 to make us look like fools and no one does anything about it. No wonder blacks outside the U.S. are scared of us and distance themselves from us. I am so sick of this…

Anyone who has anything negative to say about Nas is definitely not into ‘TRUE’ Hip-Hop, just as one had commented Nas is too much of a “movement MC” to deal in any glamorizing of the “N-word”, or trying to get publicity.
Lets face it people, the “N” has evolved into something that has become sadly mainstream. Unfortunately, as hip-hop has become an international movement you have kids from all over the world quoting some of these songs word for word., and that includes the N-word! And with that in mind, you have these non-american, non-’black’ kids calling each other the N-word like its the thing to do. Look at all the controversy still in this day and time, its 2008 for goodness sake and you have lynchings, and comedians having no shame in using the N-word publicly, I have a friend who was walking in Philly and was called a Nigger by a ‘drunk’ white boy.(who by the way, with bananas on the kid and rightfully so!!)
We must realize that people that have no business coming ot of their face with the word, are doing it every single day referring to black people. Its just use to be behind close doors. Its just gotten to a point that we have so many ignorant people in our race that will use the word publicly as if its nothing! What do you thihk everyone else is thinking. Ive experienced it myself and have wanted to knock some sense into these young ignoramusis’.
I think Nas is actually trying to open a much needed forum for discussion on the word. It takes balls for him to put himself out there like that, think about that.
Although, I do feel it wouldnt be a bad idea for Nas to actually lead that forum to hold responsiblity for his statements and explain where his personal views on the word are indeed coming from and enlighten the masses!!!
To this day, I still would throw up the fists if I was called one in a spiteful manner.

What’s funny to me is that half of these people didn’t have a problem with Pac pretty much doing the same thing…He had a word/definition for every letter…except his was N.I.G.G.A…

You can fool yourselfs with the ga or er ending all you like but truth is its still the same word no matter how you spell it, and too many people have suffered and died for us not to be call by that subhuman word. The least we can do is respect them and recepect ourselves

PURE IGNORANCE. I am burning up inside. In case there was any confusion, the definiton of the “N” word and the history behind it has not and will NEVER change. We need to have some respect for our grandparents and great-grandparents. They were called Niggers because they were considered the scum of the earth, animals not fit to live, void of souls, akin to animals, dumb and barbaric. They died trying to prove to the world that they were human just like everyone else. All for us to throw the word around like it’s meaningless or like it can somehow start to mean something good? Not happenin’

I am so disgusted by this - how could you even feel right walking around with a shirt that says “Nigger” on it? Are you kidding me? We need to respect ourselves enough to educate ourselves, to know our history and find positive ways of making and BEING the change we want to see in the world. This is clearly NOT going to have any positive impact on the perception of black people displayed though the media. Ridiculous

What I think is everyone who agreed or disagreed should do is go and look up the word find out where it came from how when it was started how it been use to day and how it was use back then. I kinda get everyone point people who agrees with NAS and those who don’t. the people who agrees might be saying look it was a word made to degrade us of who we are but turn it around to say I’m not that n*gg*r your the ni**er or i’m still that person you call n*gg*er but i’m not the only one stating that a n*gg*er come in all races and all skin color.
People who doesn’t agree may say I’t a word that shouldn’t be use because it was what the white call our people when they were slave and when they where free and some white still do as their was degrade black people as if black where still below them as if they are the best race that is great then rest. BUT EVERY ONE IS EQUALLY THE SAME IN GOD EYES NO MATTER WHAT RACE OR SKIN COLOR.
one last think i don’t think nas it doing this to sell album he doing to state his point view on what he think of n word and how it being use from every race he say what he think think like you typing what you think of him use the word. 2 me nas always had a reason 4 y he say or does things. and his not the 1st to say nigger/nigga or have album or song title it. he’s just 1st to name the whole album that. People your act as if he’s the only black rapper to say THE WORD. THOSE who say Nas lost a Fan When Did he every not say nigga/nigger and his rap when you bought his cd.

People don’t respect us because WE don’t respect us. Lets face it…IGNORANCE is rampant right now with our people. Sad, but true.

Teairra…glad to see she’s back, if u listen to “hot tub” you can tell the voice was always there!!!
I just think Jay-Z was too occupied with fucking Rihanna to even care about the “princess of the roc” But I hope she shows and prove with this album eventhough the song is nothing special…

Nice pic too!!! Love the b/g pic as well
