Three Cops In Sean Bell Case Acquitted

Sean Bell and his fiancee Nicole Paultre pose with their daughter
Folks are outraged. The three NYPD detectives in the Sean Bell case were acquitted this morning on all charges. In case you’ve been living under a rock, the background of the case:
Bell, a 23-year-old black man, was killed in a hail of gunfire outside a seedy strip club in Queens on Nov. 25, 2006 as he was leaving his bachelor party with two friends. The case ignited the emotions of people across the city and led to widespread protests among those who felt the officers used unnecessary force.

Inside the courtroom and after the judgment:

New York detectives Michael Oliver (2nd left), Gescard Isnora (3rd right) and Marc Cooper (far right).

The financee of Sean Bell, weeps as she leaves the courtroom with her mother, Laura Paultre (2nd left) and the Reverend Al Sharpton (R) after the not guilty verdict on all counts was given by Judge Arthur Cooperman.
This is going to be a problem. For many reasons…

Finally! We've got a few pics showing glimpses of Halle Berry's and Gabriel Aubrey's Baby Nahla. No tabloid money for these folks...they're showing off their baby old school style.

On Apr 25, 2008 at 12:32 pm | Reply | QuoteWords cant express the way I feel at this point. What a miscarraige of justice! However, the prosecution is to blame in this case. They purposely put unprepared witnesses on stand and allowed them to speak of things unrelated to the task at hand. The prosecutor in this case went to trail knowing there wouldnt’ be enough evidence put forth that would allow these men to be convicted beyond a reasonable doubt which is the standard. The prosecutor’s own friend was quoted as saying that he knows him personally and knows that he didn’t put his all in this case. He took case to trial for political reasons. I am outraged and beyond disgusted. Two beautiful little girls are now forced to grow up without knowing there father; his life snatched away. My sista is now forced to live without her husband whom she planned to grow old with. His parents have the horrible pain of outliving their ONLY child. And this judge expects them to swallow the verdict and move on with their everyday life. I have always believed our justice system was corrupt and this adds to it. It seems that in this world our lives have no value. We are murdered and the justice systems calls it justified and somehow they expect us to believe it. Well you know what I call it…MODERN DAY LYNCHING! I am going to pray for the family of Sean Bell. I am also planning on attending a rally today with my frat brothers in Queens, NY. Sean Bell you rest in peace and I pray that peace is also kept on our streets today as we dont need another brotha murdered or hurt by these blue blooded pigs and devild in the New York Police Department.

C’mon, if all those cops were black and had done the same thing to a white guy and then the black cops were found not guilty then everything would be a-ok. So how is that right? And if the opposite happened — they found the black cops guilty then all hell would have broken loose again. “They were found guilty cause they’re black, blah blah.” C’om people, we as a race are better than that. I’m tired of hearing about slavery, oppressing us for so long, etc. but this is 2008 and people today had NOTHING to do with what happened to our ancestors. There’s a reason why a higher percentage of Latino and African-Americans are in prison and/or father illegitimate children, etc. Go ahead and launch into a tirade of how I’m a sell-out, etc. I’m just saying….

Almost everything that happens to African Americans in the justice system, win or lose, is tied to some injustice done to our ancestors in the past, I dont believe its a black/white/pink/purple thing, you took it there, Sean was murdered and it appears that one of the men that fired the shots was a black man, wrong is wrong. I also dont believe that calling the ruling “wrong” or “BS” as you put it, perpetuates racism. Do you as a HUMAN BEING consider the verdict fair? And in some ways, Yes, this does have a lot to do with what happened to our ancestors. In the time of slavery Balck people didn’t matter. Our lives weren’t worth anything and therefore could be discarded as anyone in “power” saw fit. Is that not what happened in this case? I don’t understand how you fail to see the connection.
