What In The Publicity Stunt Hell?
And the wedding pics have arrived. Mr. and Mrs. Nick Cannon are going all out with this publicity stunt of a marriage and have sold their “wedding” pics to People. Check the new cover:
Nick and Mariah are giving the mag the scoop:
“We really do feel we are soulmates,” Carey tells PEOPLE, following their sunset ceremony at the pop star’s Bahamian estate. “I never felt a love like this was in the cards for me.”
Cannon adds: “She is beautiful on the outside and 10 times as beautiful on the inside.”
So after their first meeting about a month ago, he’s now her Dreamlover? Oh stop it. I ain’t buying it.

So ummmmm….this doesn’t even really deserve a comment…..that “wedding picture” looks so staged and fake. Maybe because I don’t believe in love at first sight, or falling in love within a month, but something doesn’t seem right about this. If it does turn out to be “real”, then congrats to them and I wish them the best of luck…..but if not, I agree with The Hostile One and hallesnewbaby, this seems like a good idea for an episode of Puk’d or Candid Camera.

I think it’s naive to think that how long you’ve know each other previosly is a determination on how long your marriage will last. You have couples who were “best friends” for many, many years, who get divorced after only a year or two of marriage and now hate each other.
And marriage is sacred. But for couples who “courted” many years as oppose to those who “courted” a few weeks doesn’t make either one more sacred than the other.
Kelly Ripa knew she was in love with Mark Conselos (sp) the moment she met him. He hadn’t even been cast on AMC yet. If he hadn’t been cast she would have hunted him down and married him anyway. They have been together forever with 3 children and there appears to be no end in sight to their marriage.
I happen to like Nick and think he’s a smart young talent who will do well in the entertainment business. I like Mariah because there’s no stopping her talent and drive. I don’t think either of these two people are stupid nor naive and even if this marriage was impulsive, so what. Who are they hurting? He was single. She was single. They have no children. They are both financially independent. They have no emotional ties to other people and while Mariah has had a previous marriage, they are coming into their marriage with very little baggage. I don’t even think their age difference is a factor. Something tells me this marriage will be rip roaring fun for them. I wish them longevity, fidelity, and emotional security with this marriage. And if it doesn’t happen to work out. Once again. So what?
I find the people most naive about marriage are married people. I’m a married person going on ten years. And yes, this is my second marriage. But I recognize that marriage and it’s definition are going through a metamorphisis. I’m realistic about my marriage possibly ending in divorce. I’m realistic that infidelity is always looming and so is the spectre of STDs and HIV. I’m my husband’s wife not his moral watch dog and vice vesus. I recognize that my needs, wants, and expectations from my marriage have changed after 10 YEARS and so have my husbands. I do not believe in “till death do us part” and think it should be removed from marriage vows and I don’t believe that we only have one soul mate on this very populated planet. I believe we have a few soul mates. Some we get to be with and some we don’t. Maybe in another life.
I wish any consenting adults embarking on a marriage much success.
