Jazmine Sullivan’s “Need You Bad” Video

Because YBF likes fresh faces in the music world:

Need U Bad (feat. Missy Elliott) - Jazmine Sullivan

Twenty one year old Philly native Jazmine Sullivan has been on the scene for a little while now and thanks to her “Need You Bad” single (one of my faves of the moment by the way) folks are starting to take notice.  It’s produced by Missy and you can check the brand new video.  Her sound brings me back to those fab mid 90’s Lauryn Hill days .  Oh how I miss thee….

You can check out more about Jazmine and more of her songs over at her myspace page. Loves it.

When they play it in a dance in T-Dot, they have to wheel it ’bout ten times before it can play in it’s entirety cuz there’s bure freshies and dancehall lovers in the place. Song is TOO heavy.
And I LOVEEEEEEE the video. Homegirl looks nothing like how her voice sounds, lol, if that makes any sense. But she sure can sang! Big up Missy, ears dem good, lol! CHUNNNNNNNNNNNNNNE! PULLLLLLLLL UP!

LOVE LOVE LOVE Jazmine Sullivan—she is incredible!!!!

And before you all start branding her the new Lauryn Hill, seriously listen to her other songs. You then will see that she is her own artist.

I mean, while “I Need You Bad” has a soulful/reggae kind of a vibe that Lauryn would’ve used in her own music, I still don’t hear Lauryn in this song.

But, maybe that’s because I’ve heard a lot of Jazmine’s other songs, which are more jazz-like.

Anywho, I just hope that she doesn’t end up falling through the cracks over at J Records, because no one has truly been able to become a big music sensation, except for Alicia Keys. It’s almost like J doesn’t know how to market anybody but Alicia.

Nevertheless, I hope for nothing but the best things for Jazmine, because she really is a true talent.

hummm, im going to research on it for the “jamaican brought hip hop in America”. I think there was a real connection between hip hop and raggae but i never knew that jamaicans brought it to America but hey, we learn things every day!
Otherwise, i agree, blacks in America come from different cultures just like white (germans, itaians, spanish etc…)! That is something i like about this country actually! The whole world live here!

Couldn’t say it better myself. Americans are afraid of anything thats different, and Black Americans have adopted that same s***t. A perfect example was College Hill VI. And they all bashing Rihanna. They dont understand how in the hell she is so successful. Now dont get me wrong I’m not a fan. De girl have no stage presence. But while they are so hung up on R&B and Hip Hop , Rihanna’s not afraid to go outside the box. I mean she was raised in BIM. In the caribbean we listen to all kings of music. As long as it hot we dere. Yes our main music is reggae , soca , calypso or whateva.

To my Brother, sisters from all hues of the black perspective both cultural and diverse, let us unite and love and respect one other as God would want us too. Enough with all the negativity, self depreciation and hipocrisy and lets embrace this sister for what appears to be destined for some serious record sales (if not already). She don’t sound nothing like Lauren Hill, she sound like Jazmine ok. Do your thing baby girl and don’t let nothing or no one stop you. Big Up to all my Jamaican sisters and brothers world wide! Tan Renee, no she did not write “Resentment,” some other songwriter did.

The song ended up being passed around to various artists—first, Victoria Beckham, then Jazmine, then Beyonce. Somehow, Beyonce ended up keeping the song, which lead it to be featured on her “B-Day” album.

Now, Posh definitely didn’t need that song—it’s too soulful for her, so thank goodness others had the opportunity to have a crack at it.

Nevertheless, Jazmine and Beyonce’s versions were both very good; but, Jazmine made it more soul-stirring because her voice just automatically is able to take a song to that point.

Beyonce, on the other hand, was smart to get the song, because it showed another side to her. Still, while I don’t really think soul when I think of Beyonce, as an artist, this song was as soulful as she has ever gotten.

Even so, I wish Jazmine could’ve gotten this song for her album, since her rendition was so good.

Nevertheless, the song that Jazmine did write was “Say I”, which ended up going to Christina Millian.

Hey, well if you like music with emotion and feeling, check out my new music blog Let Me Put You On Something @ lmpyos.blogspot.com. It doesn’t require a whole lot of reading, just a little brief about the artist/song and a direct link to the video on youtube so you can listen for yourself. Please stop by and leave comments. Run Jasmine, run! Haven’t we seen Nicole Wray, Tweet, and Sunshine Anderson’s careers go no where. It seems like when Missy has a hand in a new artist’s career, they can consider themselves done. Just run away girl!

      But,cute song, btw…

Hummm… i have to follow you on this one Natasha. This track made me rush to my “Miseducation of LH” cd. Lauryn is still not challenged.

The track “Bust your windows” (on Jazmine’s Myspace page) sounds better and fresher to me.

      I hated it!
I really disliked the “drum” sound that seems to randomly go off.

I think anyone sings on a culture riddim (Jamaican beat) is automoatically compared to Lauryn Hill in the states. Its like anything that is female American and sounds remotely Caribbean is compared Lauryn Hill.

Two different people, so the comparison is stupid.

And smaddy tell eediot gyal wi nah go stop chat patois!

Big up Jazmine, the track is fiirree….

If you even remotely consider yourself a music lover, please do yourself a favor and go to Jazmine’s Myspace page. Her voice is soooo sick. Check out Round Midnight, Prototype, and Resentment. I think this will quell some of the Lauryn comparisons. I love Lauryn and all but Jaz is in a class by herself. I hope this chick blows; I will personally be buying like 5 copies of her album!

I don’t think Missy is in charge of her career (THANK GOD)…she just produced a couple of her records. Sir Clive Davis is in charge…Jaz is signed to J Records. Hopefully he promotes her as well as he promotes Alicia Keys, because Jazmine is the truth. Her voice straight puts me in the mind of Kim Burrell or some old school jazz. BTW I LOVE THIS SONG ITS SO REFRESHING AND SMOOTH and not to mention ole girl is beautiful and THICK!
