Weekend Tidbits

Chris Rock has made a documentary about "Good Hair". One of his daughters asked him “Daddy, how come I don’t have ‘good’ [meaning Caucasian] hair?” So he made a trip all around North America to document what black girls and women go through for their hair. The movie is debuting at Sundance Movie Fest right now.

Check out Beyonce's new behind the scenes for her new House of Dereon and Dereon Bermuda photoshoot. Tyra Banks is talking to Obama cut outs on her upcoming Presidential show.  Real talk. And speaking of the Obamas: KeKe Palmer says she was ecstatic about meeting the Obamas at the Kids' Inaugural Ball.  First Lady Michelle O. even told her she was proud of her.  And I'm sure it helps KeKe's a Chicago native as well. We heart KeKe.

Blacks from Africa don't come high yellow unless it is thru another race. Your sister is mixed Duh?
Not true. As an African (full blooded from Nigeria), with light skinned relatives. Africans are not all black (Berbers in Morocco, who are NOT arabs for example), and not all black Africans are dark. Alek Wek is a typical example of a particular ethnic group in Sudan, whereas I have aunties who are Beyonce's shade and lighter. The one-drop rule in the US twisted everything up, it sometimes seems that a lot of people don't know their arse from their elbow.

Chris rock is pathetic!!! if

Chris rock is pathetic!!! if he was raising his children properly his daughter would've never said that crap in the first place! what the hell is he and his wife maalaak teaching there daughters at home! black people are always using that ignorant term to describe hair that is not kinky or nappy in texture. its 2009 and there still using that term like its 1829. what the hell is "good" hair? good hair is hair that's in perfect condition.. when hair is washed conditioned trimmed and healthy that's good hair.. bad hair is hair that's unkempt unclean damaged hair with horrible split ends!!! our hair should not amaze others when other race of women wear chemicals+weaves in there hair too.. not all white people have straight hair.. they have different textures just like black people.. Asians wear wood perms and other chemicals and Puerto Ricans+ Dominicans and a whole lot of others wear super strength relaxers including white woman!!! weave and perms aren't exclusive to black woman ..i for one don't wear any relaxers weaves or any other chemicals in my hair.. my hair is waist length straight and wavy like my Ethiopian/Eritrean mother and Egyptian father and black people and a whole lot of others are always asking me am i mixed? and this gets on my last nerve! i have had a lot of black people and others say you have "good hair" because my hair is really long and straight with a slight wave to it ,please my hair is "good" because its healthy not because its straight long and slightly wavy ! there's a lot of mixed people who hair isn't straight wavy or curly its kinky coarse nappy in texture and there's nothing wrong with that but i'm tired of society trying to act like black people's hair is some sort of science project.. we have too many different textures of hair to be put in a box.. i hope his documentary shows all kinds of different hair textures and for black people and others to stop using those god awful terms "good hair" "bad hair" its ridiculous! damn Obama is our first black president and black people are still talking about "good hair" dang.. we need to start teaching our little girls and boys to love themselves and their hair skin color and facial features it starts at home and should be taught very early on say at age 1 when there starting to walk and trying to talk..so at age 9 they wont say and think such horrible things about themselves..

I'm natural and I love it. Good hair does not mean silky and straight. Black women need to get out of that slave mentality. If you have long hair it doesn't mean you are mixed either. There is a girl on youtube and she is straight from Africa and her hair is beautiful. She wears it natural and she has a big fro and when she wears it straight it's very long. You don't have to be mixed to achieve that and I wish more black women would understand that. I don't consider people like Beyonce and Rihanna mixed. Not all Africans are jet black, have wide noses, and big lips(not that anything is wrong with that). They are still dark, some have silky hair but again dark and dark eyes. Ethiopians are an example.

I was waiting for someone to call it. ACTUALLY? I wrote that story in November of 2007. It is NOT called Trading Places, its ONE CHAPTER of a much longer story called "The Courage To Ask", rewritten by Dani Girl to be about Usher, instead of who it was originally about, Jay-Z. Don't believe it? Click on my name above. I'm flattered that someone liked it enough to want to rewrite it. That's not the problem. The problem is not asking first. The problem is not giving me any credit. Next time, if you want to claim something, you might want to make certain its original author doesn't read the YBF on the DAILY.

I would wait until you have more than a blurb about the film to talk so bad about it. It was a great film that touched on EVERY aspect of black hair and how we have viewed our hair through out history. At the end of the screening their was only 1 person that did not think it was a great documentary when asked and my friends and I had some great convos after about it, so try waiting until you at least see a trailer before you knock it so harshly.
