SPOTTED: Star Jones Out & About

Star Jones was spotted leaving Trump Towers Hotel yesterday in NY: Getting her glamourpuss on. Do you Ms. Jones.
WENN
And on a side note: The Republican National Committee has appointed Michael Steele, former Lt. Governor of Maryland, as their first black Chair of the entire organization. Interesting timing don't ya think? He says he's "mixed with Indian" though. *blank stare* Both the RNC and Mr. Steele need to stop it. But um, congrats though....

I dont like how this version of the republican party tries to play people for fools...nor do I like the coonery and out right BIGOTRY that was displayed throughout the election by the republican party. If you are going to pick a person, pick them because you beleive they are most qualified or feel as if they will help bring your party out of the wilderness...dont pick them just because you feel your party is slipping away to irrelevency and think he will help you get some of the minority vote or use him as the "token nigro" to attack Obama. Steele had the nerve to say in his speech that he will enjoy "sparing with Obama"..as if Obama has time for their continued nonsense..incase they haven't noticed, Obama is a little busy right now ruling the free world. I'm going to make sure our kids know ALL of their heritage (and I'm considering getting a test done to figure out all their background because my fiance's father never knew for certain who his dad was although they think he was a Hindu Indian), but they're eventually going to have to identify with one race or the other. That's how society is. They're not asking mixed/multi-racial people to denounce one heritage for the other perse. However, let's not act like growing up they don't identify with one race more than the other. My fiance's sister has nephews who are half white/half black and one says he's black and only dates black girls, while the other says he's white and only dates white girls. It all depends on how and where they grow up.
So if your children say the are German then you'll be okay with that? Is that what you are saying?
I'm going to love my children no matter what they claim to be. That's what a REAL, LOVING parent does. My point was, you can't control what people want to call themselves or what society will call them.
I live in Maryland and there was a reason why we didn't re-elect Erlich and Michael Steel...we didn't want them! If the republican party truly believes that "this" will finally bring the "minority" community back to the Good Ol'Boy party, they have another thing coming. They publicize Michael Steel as a great orator...okay, if that's the case, I certainly was not impressed and as the saying goes you never get a second chance to make a first impression. This man supported The then Governor Ehlrich in a fundraising endeavor at a country club that didn't permit minorities, particularyly African Americans. His excuse was "I don't play golf, so I was fine." That is enough to let me know he is not one I would support. When you are a political figure, one you have a code of ethics, to, you are the voice for the people, and three there has to be standard. He failed all three. I believe in a lot of the republican ideologies, but I don't believe in the mass majority of individuals representing the ideologies. It up self, it's about the elite, it's about money. They are a laughing stalk, and I'll be laughing at the polls on election day 2012 when I check Barack Obama's name for president of the United States! Obama/Biden 2012
THANK YOU!! WOW! My first time posting a comment on this site!!! I do think Mr. Steele is mixed with Indian, he does have that look. However, I think the RNC is making a mistake. I'm sure there's better Black Republicans that they could have chosen over Steele. And on another note, Seth Meyer made a good point on SNL this weekend, he said to the RNC it doesn't work with just ANY black guy. SO true....

Michael Steele was horrible

Michael Steele was horrible when he was here in Maryland and I cant see him getting any better. If the Republicans think this will allow them to take the White House back in 4yrs, the are crazy. Most blacks dont like Michael Steele. What a a bunch of idiots.

I swear I dont know how the President puts up with these people and their continued ignorance, SMH.
I usually don't read really long comments, but this time I made an exception because f the topic. Girl, you'd better preach! Your comment was spot on, articulate, and eloquently put.
ITA,well said. I question people who need to say "I'm mixed with....." So what? Are you saying you are not black, or "less black" than other blacks so therefore better? Love of self begins at home, tell your black kids that "black is beautiful" and maybe, just maybe we will no longer have to "go here". Black Power!!:)
I have a question. If your mother is white and your father is black are you less white? I never understood why some people feel that mixed children should deny the other race/ races and act like it doesn't exist. That isn't fair to the child nor to the non-black parent. I am not going to deny my child the right of her knowing her ancestry just to make anyone feel else better. There is a lot of history in both my side of the family and her father's and we are all proud to be Americans. Congratulations to the Steelers.

I hope that Obama's stimulus does in fact get us back on track but the new Treasury Secretary, Tim Geithner, has a subpar record and didn't do jack to stop this financial tsunami when he was the head of the New York Fed.
@ xyz actually what I was doing was attempting to pointout the fallacy of looking to a particular campaign as proof of one party being better for blacks or conversely doing more harm to blacks. They both have done good and bad at different points in history. And while the "Liberal Republican" party may have disappeared over time, I don't pretend to know what the future holds. I thought it was interesting that the RNC voted in the most moderate of all of the candidates. Ken Blackwell certainly would have played more to their base and he's black. The more liberal elements of the Republican party may be attempting to make a comeback, I don't know. But I find the dynamics and what it may mean for the future to be exciting historically and interesting. Heck, 20 years from now the conservative wing of Democratic party may have taken over. As far as Lincoln is concerned, I think anyone who is a student of history knows that the Emancipation Proclamation was the linchpin in the battle between Federalism and States Rights. The Emancipation Proclamation ensured that Federalism trumped States Rights. He did not sign the Emancipation Proclamation because he thought slavery was wrong and inhumane. He did so, to ensure the creation of "the United States" vs. "a United States." In other words, liberalism had nothing to do with that decision.
Alrighty then Sepia, well it's great to have an intelligent discussion. What states were the bastions of slavery? What party? Become educated people. Do you know who started Planned Parenthood and why it was placed in the ghettos of New York? Look up Margaret Sanger and the forced abortions in China. Do your research and you might become Republican too! lol
Naw I'll stick to being a Democrat since I support policies that benefit working class families and not large corporations. I also strongly support the idea that everyone should be entitled to universal health care. I believe higher taxes should be designated to corporations and the wealthy. Lastly, the government has no right to tell anyone what to do with their bodies...yep that's right I'm socially liberal too. By the way this ain't your grand papi's Democratic Party.

@ xyz actually what I was

I don't know if many of you are old enough to remember the 80's and WILLIE HORTON. Bush senior won the Presidency by making white people feel like a BIG BLACK MAN was coming to get them. I will never forget those commercials with the picture of Willie Horton, and how they played black and white people. MOST Republicans during that era ran "war on crime" campaigns. Which really meant "war on black men". I don't think I could EVER vote for a Republican. I understand the Democrats are the lessor of the two evils. But until something/someone better comes along....I will vote Democratic!
@ BellaY Yes, I recall that campaign and my response is so what? Look at the race biting ish the Clinton's put forth in the campaign. Had it not been for Pres. Obama's campaign we wouldn't know what "America's First Black President" and wifey really thought of us. How they would sacrifice us for the other. If you go back in history, it is historically the Dems who did black folks the most harm. You mentioned that you wouldn't vote for a Republican. That's cool - that's your choice. But you know why you can make that choice? Why you have a vote? Because it was the Republicans who abolished poll taxes and the like and introduced a plethora of legislation to dismantle these blockades to blacks voting. Democrats, especially Southern Democrats were all too happy to keep us from the voting booth. Like your civil rights? Well you likely would not have had them (or certainly not in the form they came in 1964 Civil Rights Act) had it not been for the Republicans. Remember, they were in the minority at that time yet voted at a higher percentage than the Democrats. In sum, without the Republicans, the Civil Rights Act of 1964 would not have passed. My point is that both parties have had African Americans bent over at various times in history. The way many African Americans feel about the Republican party today is the same way many of our grandparents and great-grandparents (especially Southerners) felt about the Democratic party back in the day. We don't know what the ascension of Michael Steele means for the Republican party or African Americans in general. But what I do know is that political history is rife with change. Twenty/thirty years from now African Americans may be voting for Republicans in mass. And yes, it is possible because we were doing just that prior to the 1964 Act. That isn't that long ago. As a people, we need to become aware of the issues and policies of both parties and then make the best choice for our families and communities. We've allowed our vote to taken for granted too long.
You're referring to the one time Liberal Republican Party, which gradually disappeared once its members left to join the Democratic Party. The rest joined the Radical Republicans. Oh and Abraham Lincoln was a Liberal Republican...The man issued the Emancipation Proclamation orders, if that isn't liberal enough for ya than I don't know what is.

@ BellaY Maybe you have the

@ BellaY Maybe you have the "in" into the inner workings of the RNC, I don't so I don't know what the ascension of Michael Steele truly means to the Republican party or what their strategy is. What I do know is that he has worked his tail off in the Republican party - he has paid his dues and since the Republicans have a history of putting blacks in high profile positions, his win (not appointment) does not surprise me [and he wasn't the only black running]. I have not read or heard - except from folks who supposedly read tea leaves -- that they are reaching out to black people. I heard his acceptance speech on YouTube and he didn't mention anything about reaching out to blacks - he talked about taking back the NE. You know, those folks who were all for Obama BEFORE African Americans started getting the vapors after he won Iowa. I think we're getting ahead of ourselves - neither party NEEDS us. Political strategist look decades out when planning strategy. We're no longer the favored minority and we don't vote in sufficient numbers i.e., we're not a reliable vote. Yes, we came out in force for Obama, but look what happened in Georgia. There was a runoff after the election for the senate seat, blacks could have single-handedly helped Obama get the majority in the senate, if they would have come out for the runoff. They didn't in that race or any of the other runoff races. The "Obama effect" only affected the Pres election. Not saying that the Republicans (IDK) are not interested in siphoning off a few blacks, but I seriously doubt Michael Steele is the means by which they plan to do it. Besides, you don't need a black man as the head of the party to draw blacks. The DNC certainly has never saw the need for one and they're doing just fine.

But in my opinion, the Republican's are only "pretending" to reach out to black people now because they NEED us to stay relevant. If they didn't "need" us right now, Michael Steele would not be leading the RNC.
