Etta James: Beyonce's Going To Get Her Ass Whipped For Singing My Song!

Oh snap!  Just when we thought Etta James may have been happy about Beyonce singing her song "At Last" for the Prez and First Ladies' First Dance on Inauguration night, we were thoroughly wrong.  Fierce Kitty Etta showed who the real Diva was and popped off extra hard on Beyonce during her concert in Seattle a few nights ago. She told the crowd: "You know, YOUR President, the one with the big ears-he ain't MY President--had that woman singing for him at his Inauguration.  She's going to get her ass whooped....Beyonce...I can't stand Beyonce." She went on asking "How dare Beyonce sing MY song that I been singing forever.  Now I'm going to sing it for y'all...." I wonder if she whispered something in Beyonce's ear during the Cadillac Records premiere. Chick even popped off on President Obama.  I would ask if she smoked something before she hopped on stage, but that would be inappropriate. Even the Seattle papers were shocked.  I always knew Ms. Etta was feisty, but damn.  Somebody no likey Beyonce--at all.  Check the audio here. EDIT: Yes, it is really Etta, not a comedian. The Seattle newspapers and others were at said concert and they wrote a review, including Etta going off about Beyonce. A link to one of the reviews from the Seattle Times is included above. SCAN-DUHL!

With all that said, Etta

With all that said, Etta should congratulate Beyonce on her many accomplishments and not jump on her for being a young, black, talented, and successful singer. She went through all of those hardships so the one's after shouldn't have to suffer. Hello...a month after the fact might I add.

Have any who thinks Etta

Have any who thinks Etta should keep quite seen “Cadillac Records”? Did you get that you watched what many Black People went through trying to make a record? Many performers were ripped off and had their songs stolen from them and done by other groups without getting royalties for it. Many Black entertainers went to the grave with little because they were Black. This is not something that only happened in the past. The Rolling Stones did the same thing to the group “Living Color” in your life time. Ms. James should have been asked if she would like to sing for our president. Ms. James had to go through this much of her life as a singer. It’s because of what she and most of the Black singers of her time went through that made a way for the Black singers and musicians of this time. It is sad but that is how the land we live in is like. I am glad Ms. James could finally express what needed to be said. For those who don’t understand what Ms. James has gone through, wait. You will comprehend when it happens to you. Times have not changed. Many blacks are still not getting recognition in many profession they hold.

And to discredit Beyonce, a woman who has shown nothing but the upmost respect for her and her career? Etta needs to lay off the pipe and retire. I can somewhat understand

I can somewhat understand Etta being a little upset about not even being considered since she was the first black singer to embellish on the song, and it would have been nice to have both the senior and junior there to sing some of the lyrics. But maybe Mr. and Mrs. Obama had there reasons, and by the way I don't think they purposely left Etta out with no personal intention. So Etta I kind of know how you feel because maybe you feel you were not even considered at all. So my prayers are with you that you will heal and not allow the oversight to keep you bitter towards Beyonce or our President. After all we all make mistakes and it's enough having to live with them even when we remember them. So I will all ways be grateful for hearing you sing the song. And I have to admit I heard a group in Norfolk, VA sing it and this lady sang it even better than both Etta and Beyonce. So Etta please get over it and move on, even though it may not be so easy now, in time all wounds heal with the proper attitude of humility and forgiveness. I love all of you and especially My President. God bless everyone!!

If Glenn Miller didn’t come out and publicly bash her for singing HIS song and making it into her signature song then she had no right to try and call out Beyonce. That’s just a simple fact. Beyonce has given her nothing but praise in recent months so this was completely uncalled for. She brought a chapter of Etta’s life to the big screen and made sure the story was told in a correct way rather than a glamorized Hollywood version. Glen Miller didn't come out chastising Etta for singing and making public a SONG THAT WAS NOT HERS ORIGINALLY to be mad about. So to condone this would be ridiculous, and shouldn't have Beyonce up for any type of cursing or threatening on her part. It makes no sense.

I wonder what caused Etta

I wonder what caused Etta James to go off the way she did. If she had an issue with Beyonce why didn't she voice her concerns during Cadillac Records. I can give credit where it's due and I'm not really a Beyonce fan. I like some of her songs and think she's an okay singer (vocally there are better singers in the industry, just my opinion). Miss James was acting very unprofessional and talking smack about President Obama was really not cool.

Everyone is entitled to their

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. If she doesn't like Beyonce or Obama, that's her business. There are sometimes when you have to 'smile for the camera' but under your breath you are like, "this is some straight bull----." The other thing is you don't have to write a song to make it "yours". No, Etta will never get royalties, but a lot of older black performers won't because they didn't know as much about their legal rights then as they do now. It's still her song. What about Beyonce's decorum? She didn't consult Etta in the making of the movie. That's a big no-no. If you are gonna bring someone "to light", then be professional. As for bringing people into relevance for folks under 25, just because they don't know about the likes of Dakota Staton or Etta James doesn't mean they don't exist or not relevant. I know Bey is "it" for some people, but damn where do you think she got it from? While I don't dislike her music, I can see that she has so much more growing to do in her craft.

If anything Etta would have the asterick with all this nonsense she is spewing. That in itself is funny. The crazy theories people come up with over Beyonce baffles me. I can't see how anybody could possibly defend Ettas statements, especially with her going hard against the President like that. Over selecting a musician to sing a song for his first dance. You really think Etta should have been picked, after she clearly lost her mind on stage last night? Imagine that at the Neighborhood Ball. So now Etta James is the decisive factor in her going down as legendary? LMAO. That makes no sense at all.

These old b*stards are

These old b*stards are getting out of control with their attacks on young people. First Steve Harvey attacking Katt when he is not well, and now this old bitty, who Beyonce revived her name when people didn't even know she was still alive, is upset. If she owned the rights to that song Beyonce wouldn't have been able to sing it without her permission. Are these old fools on crack? But no one says a word about Alicia Keys, whose entire career has been based on covering other people's material. I am so offended by Alicia Keys that I don't buy anything she makes because I have the ORIGINALS. However, Most of Beyonce's music is her own. This old woman is wrong.

I just can't believe that

I just can't believe that some of you guys are for what Etta James has said. That is totally crazy.. Beyonce is a performer and what she is doing is performing. It is not her fought that she was chosen to sing that song instead of Etta James. Maybe if Etta James would have had a more pleasant attitude both of them would have been invited to sing that song. Look Beyonce is not the only person that sung that song... You don't see Etta James popping off at the mouth when Celine Dion sung that song, now did she? Black people always have a way of shooting each other down when one of us reaches success. Be happy for Beyonce and sit back and mellow in the fact that you had a part in getting Beyonce to that point. Everyone in the world knows that you sung that song! When Beyonce sings the song all people of the world listen and say, "Isn't that Etta James song beautiful," not “Oh that song Beyonce made is beautiful”. You do have the credit so take it and be happy for once in your life, and appreciate that the youngsters of this world thought enough about you to appreciate your craft to learn about you and bring you back out into the fore front again, because for many, you could have been forgotten. Thank you to our elders and thank you for the youngsters that keep the elders stories alive... That is what you should be blasting... Not hate...

Etta James is very bitter

Etta James is very bitter that Barack didn't choice HER to sing HER song at the Inaugural Ball. As far as being surprised at her statements, Etta James was one of 2 (Nat king Cole being the other) black artist popular with white audiences in the early 50's. That's almost 20 years before civil rights. If you think that artist have to sell-out a little bit these days to go main stream , just imagine how big of a sell-out Etta James had to be. P.S. Who's bright idea was it to put black font on a deep purple background?

I'm surprised why people would expect Etta to act any different. If it so true the way Beyawnce portrayed her to be a "fire cracker", why is she supposed to change...because she's old? NO, hell my 93 year old grandmother says shit that still hits a nerve but I still respect her. I myself did not like that Beyawnce sang her song as if she was dead. Etta even said that when it first came out about Bey portraying her she was surprised for the simple fact her life was nothing in comparison to hers. Bey couldn't possible understand even though she went to the drug homes to talk to others who had been on heroine. Hell, the reason she didn't talk to her during the Cadillac Records premiere was because Bey is boring and doesn't know what to say unless it is scripted. She has no originality...period. It is the white media that has blown this overexposed girl up.

I can understand Etta (if

I can understand Etta (if it's really her) and there is NO way that Beyonce sings this song better - I'm a young person, not an American and I respect only Etta's version of At Last. Imagine Beyonce singing Respect or any other song of a legend who is STILL alive, just because they're old and don't look too nice. Damn, that's cruel and I'll not support it. Respect the legends people. If Beyonce was asked to sing this song (she sang also two others) then I have one answer so logicial in POLITICS - MONEY MAKES THE WOLRD GO ROUND. Obama or not, Beyonce's manager just got great promotion for his daughter. And Cadillac Records - yeah, to have a famous singer (Beyonce) to sing songs of the character she is portraying with her own voice is a huge mistake. All the time I wasn't hearing Etta, but Beyonce and it annoyed me a lot. Let's have a movie about Aretha and Beyonce/Whitney/Jennifer Hudson plays the role and sing Aretha's song with her own voice. I cannot imagine that... And of course At Last wasn't written by Etta, but so wasn't Respect, but Aretha just like Etta made the song and the WHOLE WORLD knows that!! Still I think this is not Etta, but I've had this opinion long before this interview...
