kima: We’re so f^cked up

kima: We’re so f^cked up over hair that it makes me sad every time I read any of this mess. People throw around adjectives like good, nice, and good grade (whatever that is) to describe layers of dead keratinized protein that grows out of peoples skin. Hair cannot be good or bad since it has no intent. Hair cannot be nice since it has no morals or judgement. Hair cannot get good or bad grades, since it learns nothing. I know a couple of people with really wavy shiny underarm hair and pubes, anybody want to debate on whether or not they are mixed or fully “black”. We (black women) have made hair so important that it’s almost comical. Then we sit and wonder why our men go for other races of women with the hair so many of us spend too much time, energy and money trying to achieve. We raise them, they see us putting certain types of hair on a pedestal and when they grow up and have the choice, they choose the women with hair we’ve been subconsciously telling them is superior for their whole lives. We really have to do better, and quick. You should not be proud of what grows out of your head- you have no say in that, instead take pride in what you work to put in your head. [stands to applaud] Everyone on this Earth is mixed, lets not argue over HAIR and just love and accept ourselves. Life is too short for this trivial mess ladies

Letoya’s wrap was always on point lol To be honest they all had "healthy" hair in DC they really wasn't a difference or anything special, that stood out Letoya and latvias hair. if you seek amy: cute kid. at least she don’t claim that creole shit like beyonce do Umm....Beyonces mother is Creole, what is there to claim? And to the person who

And to the person who commented about Europeans holing up in Africa and "raping" the women, thus contributing to the genetic variation, that's quite laughable. No words. Again, travel! Take a little time to hit up your local library and learn about your history- from the African perspective, not the Europeans who wrote your grade school textbooks. I'm done. Just done. It's a sad day when you have to educate other Black folks about themselves. Bob Marley's words about emancipating ourselves from mental slavery have never been more appropriate than they are today in our society.

Wow. Folks really need to get out of this country and travel. I wasn't going to respond to the hair comments until I read Biggi's comments about the only people with long curly hair being Ethiopian or mixed with whatever else. Let's revisit history here. Africa is the bedrock of civilization, i.e. life started there. Wouldn't it make sense that all the genetic variations we as human beings express in our phenotypes/features would be abundant on that Continent, without folks being "mixed"? I'm 100% Nigerian- can trace my family back 10 generations, give or take, on both sides. I have super curly, long natural hair and get asked all the time if I'm "mixed with Indian" or some other ignorant nonsense. Growing up in Nigeria, I've seen all the variations of hair type, skin color, eye color- blue, gray, green, brown etc and they're all 100% African! No "mixing" involved. Please get out and travel people. See the world, before subjecting others to your ignorance!

Get up on ur history game because the first people were from Africa who THEN moved to Egypt and were called the dark-skinned ppl (kimet). Egypt is in Africa... Not the Middle East... sorry

Who gives a F if West Africans have long hair!?! Her hair texture doesn't look like traditional West African hair and her eyes are slanted. As an African American she probably doesn't know her exact lineage so how the heck are yall gonna sit here and tell someone they are ignorant for thinking Letoya has Asian in her lineage. I agree! her eyes look as if she has some asian lineage because I thought it was Amerie at 1st!!! N.Eway she was cute then and pretty now. She has a phenominal personality as well!

someone: Just some insight

someone: Just some insight for your guys… ‘Kinky’ West African hair can be very long. The reason most black people of west African decent don’t have long hair is because they put that chemical relaxer on their hair, which greatly weakens the strand of hair, and along with breakage the hair doesn’t grow at maximum speed. Most people black people with 4a/b/c (west African ‘kinky’ hair) who go natural (who really go natural, thus applying very little heat, so no pressing) , within 5 years, when they straighten their hair, it past their shoulders. Just a little something for you ladies who think our hair can’t be long. And to add, when your head feels like it’s on fire (relaxers!!!), something’s not right! Of course it’s going to be hard to who your hair out with a relaxer.. unless you relax your hair after it’s been grown out or have some different genes in ya.PSA complete. are u niko's cousin?

It's soo sad to see how many

It's soo sad to see how many Black women think people like Keysha cole, letoya and beyonce (to name a few) are MIXED because they have a different hair texture. Im in the south (NOLA) and this type of hair texture is common...black hair comes in different types!!! My hair is more like Letoyas baby pic-Ive never had a relaxer and my sister's is more kinky but we are both BLACK! She is way lighter than me and I'm on the Keisha Pulliam tip but we are BOTH BLACK...I don't understand y she would look MIXED b/c of her hair????? SHE BLACK! I don't care if her great great great grandpappy was an Indian...you pple need to get over it!! PS Keysha Cole look like a regular BLACK chick out the 5th ward to me!!!! Italian daddy my ass- maybe her dad from the N.O!!!!!!
SouthernTasha's picture

I find it funny how many

I find it funny how many people comment that Keysha Cole , Letoya, Beyonce or others who have a slightly different texture of hair must be mixed. Letoya is from the south- which is where I'm from (NOLA to be exact) and it's VERY COMMON to see BLACK people with this type (straight, curly, less kinky) hair...my hair is like hers (pre-perm) and Im a Black WOMAN. It's soo sad that black people feel that the only way you are truly black is if you have kinky hair...black hair comes in ALL types- my sister's is more kinky and I've never had to straighten mine...we both black!!!
SouthernTasha's picture

also why does she look mix or

also why does she look mix or why does she have asian in her? do you ppl forget that blacks and asain share many of the same features like, eye shape, nose and hair YES hair naturally they have some kinky and "nappy" {before they straighting it with things like the japanese hair straigting system.)according to the bible blacks and asians are pretty much the same people who spread to diff. parts of the world, scientifically we had very similar features and anthropologically asian family systems and socities are very similar to african ones. either way Im just sick of people asking me if I got asian in me because of my eyes. or if I'm mixed when I press my hair because its down to my back. learn some history 1st before u make ignorant statements. also look up different African people especially central africans and honey you will see some chinky eyes. There isn't one feature that belong to just one group whether its hair, eye color, etc. This basically teaches us that we are all Gods children we there is one race called the human race. It's about time people took pride in who they were.
SHUTUP's picture

NO IT DOES NOT LOOK LIKE SHE

NO IT DOES NOT LOOK LIKE SHE HAS A NOSE JOB ARE U PPL SERIOUS? how many of you have them same tiny nose you had as a child I no i don't as a kind a had a little stubby nose and the other I got the more my facial features grew and changed. look at the base of her nose its the same thing, the brigde just got longer because duh??? she got older
SHUTUP's picture

One last word here. It's

One last word here. It's sad, but sometimes we (African descendants) do not know what we are mixed with sometimes, because our foreparents did not document or tell us about our heritage enough for us to understand. Case in point me. Recessive genes are a MOFO....that's all I'm gonna say.

Why do people believe that black women’s hair cannot be beautiful and long unless they have something other than black in their lineage? People really need to get out and travel. Go to Africa and see how long and curly A LOT of those women’s hair is like over there. I would usually side with people on this, but this time I think you are wrong. She does look like she has something other than African in her genetic make up. I have been to Africa and some of these curly hair people you refer to has some other ancestry running through their veins….arabic in particular - places like the Sudan, etc. You will not see that type of hair in Nigeria, Ghana, etc. Don’t let YOUR ignorance show. I think the person stating that she has Asian heritage is making a valid point and it doesn’t show her ignorance. Yes I understand that most african american women are totally screwed up on image, but come on give me a break, can’t you see the girl (Le toya) is a little mixed! Quote is funny how people like to assume that they no a lot about Africa and Africans...yes egyptians are mixed but about 95% of somalis and eritrians are scientifically proven not to be mixed, that is how God created them just like he created the light skin igbo girls and the dark skin yuroba girls of nigeria, the beautiful ebonies of the Ashanti tribe and the striaght hair fulani and huasa girl of ghana/Nigerian, the fine features of the Hudtu and the strong features of the Totsi tribe in Rawanda. i'm as dark as midnight but i ve the striaghtess hair, tiniest mouth and pointiest nose, guess what i am African puree West African. yes she might be mixed becos most African Americans are mixed but not because of hair texture. all this mixed sh*t was cooked up by Europeans to maintain the idea that, certain features are atributed to europeans i.e. hair length and texture, striaght nose etc. pls if u re not African dnt assume about Africans by reading european history books. by the way i live in England were most blacks are either Africans or Caribbeans so i dnt no that much about Black Americans. one love thou

Let me repeat - even if you

Let me repeat - even if you are choclate coal black and your mother and grandfather are choclate coal black you CAN and probably DO have recessive white genes in your family from where your ancestors either here or in Africa were raped by slaves traders who went to Africa to buy slaves used the slaves for sex on the ships because the voyages were months at a time or massa creeping to the slave quarters when his wife Becky was asleep. Just simple facts. Letoya's eyes which have asian lids and her hair texture clearly shows she is of mixd genes. End of story.
That Dumb Bitch said "I bet Chris wouldn't have done that to's picture

There's no point in claiming

There's no point in claiming your family five generations back is choclate coal black in color. They could still have recessive white genes. That's why they call them recessive - meaning they don't show in your features or hair and you look african. But if you are a black person chances are your ancestor was a slave. And if your ancestor was a slave somehwre down the line massa was creepin out to the slave quarters in the dead of night to rape your mother so there are no pure-blooded african people anywhere. Even in Africa. Because massa went there to get the slaves to bring over here and on that long voyage massa was raping the black women because they were horny. Just plain facts. So everyone needs to realize this simple fact and stop bullshitting about i'm black and my fifth grandmother is black and I have long hair. Yeas you do. BUT that's because massa raped your mother in Africa, on the slave ship over here or when he tipped out the house to the slave quarter when his wife Becky was aleep.
That Dumb Bitch said "I bet Chris wouldn't have done that to's picture

She was not a cute little

She was not a cute little girl at ALL. The hair was cute a bit thin though. But I don't think she had a nose job her nose was why it was easy for me to guess it was her right off the back. MAke up can do wonders to contoure noses for instance I thought for certain Rihanna had a nose job bcuz her nose now looks diff from when she came out. But once I saw her "abuse" pic sans makeup I saw she still has that same old MJ(pre-white) bell pepper nose that she's always had. So under all that maybelline could be a very funny looking person.

I have slanted eyes, and curly hair and I am asked "Do I have any asian in my blood" lmao.I was also teased and was given the nickname "Chink". Fortunately my family kept very good records of our ancestry. Mothers side is from Sudan, and Venezuela. Fathers side from Ghana and Grenada. No Asian here. lets no assume or try to figure out what the lady is mixed with. who cares.

Thank you for your comment

Thank you for your comment Kima! I was just going to say the same thing, but you probably said it better. THERE IS NOTHING INHERENTLY BETTER ABOUT 'LONG' CURLY HAIR. THERE IS NOTHING INHERENTLY BAD ABOUT SHORT, KINKY HAIR. ALL THESE ADJECTIVES USED TO DESCRIBE THE VALUE OF HAIR ARE ALL IN YOUR MINDS, BLACK WOMEN! COME ON, WE MUST GET IT TOGETHER! P.S. I'm East African and have a nice healthy head of really kinky hair in locs. Black women are STILL coming up to me, asking me how it got to be so long....um, because I take care of it! I don't put chemicals in it, I don't put fake hair in it, I eat right and I put enough oil, etc. in it. I have AFRICAN HAIR and it looks good because I TAKE CARE OF IT. STOP THE WEAVE MADNESS AND ALL THIS TALK ABOUT 'GOOD' HAIR ONCE AND FOR ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
