DO WE LOVE IT?: Solange Gets An Almost-Baldie

And another interesting haircut has hit the net. Solange Knowles was spotted out and about yesterday running errands and rocking her newly shaved head. She Tweeted that she was going through a 'i wanna cut all my Hair off & have a fade phase'.

She and her son Julez look damn near identical now.  Interestingly, Solo hit up a Dita Von Teese performance in L.A. last night with her girls and reportedly rocked a brunette wig. Guess she's not 100% ready to go full throttle with this new 'do. So...

DO WE LOVE IT?!

I swear some of you are

I swear some of you are riding the bandwagon because her last name is Knowles.......werent most of you just talking about other chicks cutting their hair for attention? Now Solange does it and its a release and all of a sudden your against weaves. If your proud of your hair good, but some women wear weaves because they live in hot cities, or their hair is hard to manage....when she was wearing a weave I dont remember anyone complaining about that.

Memino: There is nothing

Memino: There is nothing wrong with nappy or natural hair. Why should she have to hide behind packs & packs of yaki hair? or a texturizer/relaxer? all she needs to do is take a comb to it.Its Much better than Rihanna 2 different texture mess Solange take a note out of Grace jones book she knows how to rock natural hair & make it look FIERCE. shut the hell up

Cazza!: Man I’m with Paige

Cazza!: Man I’m with Paige and Dainedallas! You guys are singing my sort of tune, don’t understand why people can’t just realise that not everyone with weave etc hates their black heritage-it’s about different looks that work for you!!!I’ve worked short relaxed rihanna style haircuts back in 2000, last year I rocked weaves-curly, long with fringe and short Mary J lop sided bobs and now I’m about curly braids-my hair hasn’t been relaxed for two years, but if i do decide to relax it I still consider myself as proud as the next girl with the afro about being black!! And people taht suggest otherwise need to get off their high horses and realise it’s just hair it doesn’t determine what we feel about our skin colour or heritage! That's not what we were trying to say. The comments were aimed at 24/7 weave wearers whose eyes glaze up when you tell them to rock their own hair for once. that's all! It is a bold act to walk around with natural hair because it still hasn't been 100% accepted by society yet. How can the hair growing out of your own head not be accepted by society. I work at a law firm and I can't tell you the looks I got from my own permed and weaved out sistahs when I came in to work with my natural hair. They were the first ones to whisper that my hair was unprofessional, they just didn't have the balls to go natural. I don't have a problem with weave, I just don't understand why some women wear it almost 24/7. That just leads me to believe that they have hair issues. How can you know that you have hair issues if around you feels the same way about their hair. Mostly everyone in my fam rocks a weave, piece, wigs, aand lacefronts. I don't see the purpose of walking around 12 months out the wear with someone elses hair attached to your head. makes no sense.

I am almost certain this is something she had to do , Not something she wanted to do.. All those weaves and wigs have caught up to her....

Yardy: Me too and I felt

Yardy: Me too and I felt light and free from all the perms and hours sitting in the salon. No ma’am no more and my hair grew back longer than ever. She does NOT need a texturizer, that defeats the whole purpose of “natural” HOWEVER, her cut is a too jagged. A brush may do it, but you have to start with a quality cut and erry black corner has the good barber just waiting with them clippers. Tighten it up Solo! Some of the comments in here are really sad, sistahs still hate their own hair! a texturizers are a mild perm to losen up the curls! how horrible. I love my natural hair, it's strong and still growing like crazy. when will the weave obessioned.

Cazza!: You took the words

Cazza!: You took the words right out my mouth, yes there is pressure in the media for black girls to have fake hair HOWEVER many black girls change their hair into weave etc in order to change their look and or those who think they are MORE black because they are rocking real hair-please sit down! Many many black girls with fake hair love being black and it is not a compulsory for us all to have our fros or cornrows on our heads in order to be seen as a proud black person! In my opinion Solange DOES NOT suit this look, Grace Jones is an example of someone with features striking enough to have a bald head and look better than every girl in the room-it’s not just confidence it’s knowing what suits you!! peace and love! Co-Sign!!

DanieDallas: As a lover of

DanieDallas: As a lover of hair, I find it very sad that you either have to be pro weave/permed hair or pro natural hair. Some people on here have made comments like “People that wear weave or perm their hair don’t have confidence or aren’t proud of their natural hair and heritage.” That’s a crock. One of the things that I love about being black is that I can change my hair into whatever I want. Plenty of times I have rocked a perm and weave (like now) and then turned around and rocked my permed hair cut in a shoulder length bob and then turned around and went off perms altogether and rocked my curly fro. Why does it have to be either or? The whole idea of saying if you wear perms/weave that you’re not proud of being black or are ashamed of your natural hair is ridiculous. Can’t it just mean that you like to change it up? Or that that’s the style you like? If you’re natural be natural and love it! If you’re permed/weaved be that and love it and if you’re like me be whatever you decided to rock that month and love it! Amen sweetie! I am so lost as to why everyone is saying "it takes a strong black woman to rock natural hair" or "we self hate and make it unacceptable for natural hair", or the other half says "oh she needs to put the weave back in" "this do is not for her". I DO believe that Solange is going with the crowd... I could be wrong, but to ME the timing insinuates that she is following the trend. Amber Rose did not "start" the trend, per se. Just like Rihanna did not start the bob trend. I think the proper way of saying it would be by saying both of those women- Amber and Rihanna- made their hairstyles popular by bursting onto the scene with swagger and confidence in their whole look. That is what makes other people say "Hey, I wanna try that!", which is why those styles are becoming popular. How many times have you seen India or Erykah and said "WOW her whole look is amazing, I want to look like that!" Be honest- NOT MANY. They simply arent working it with the same appeal Amber Rose is. The same for Rihanna. There's nothing wrong in people feeling that Solange made the wrong choice. That's a matter of opinion. It doesn't mean they find it unacceptable to go "natural". I wouldn't want to go natural unless I knew for certain that I would FEEL as wonderful with a natural style. And I don't know, and I am not going to take the plunge to find out "just to find out". But that doesn't mean I have anything against it. It doesn't mean that I dont love myself, or my heritage. It doesn't mean I don't "know my real hair", because up until I was 13 I wore my hair natural- braided, kinky curls (i never did the "Fro"). I didn't relax my hair because of "society", I relaxed it because I wanted to experiment and see what I could do with my straight hair. And I felt great!! I simply feel more confident and sexy with my relaxed hair, or with a sew in- I feel like I can be more creative. I like to color my hair, but I like my natural hair color as well. When my hair grows out, and its time for a perm, sometimes I like to do hairstyles I can't do with my bone straight hair. It is not better to be natural, it is not better to be relaxed, to be weaved, to be braided: It's all about what works for YOU!

Coming from someone that has

Coming from someone that has been natural for almost 5 years, I LOVE this step Solonge has taken. For most black women, their hair means EVERYTHING to them & for her to do this speaks volumes!!! It's not easy to let all of the expectations of society go & just be natural! It's very liberating!!! That took some serious guts on her part! Much respect!

BIANCA: Yeah because

BIANCA: Yeah because wearing a weave will make you less hot. LMAO! Actually some women's hair sweats out to easily, so wearing a weave eliminates your own from being damaged from pressings or something like that, even windy climates can damage hair. Instead of trying to be sarcastic towards someone who is also black you should try and understand where one is coming from.

NaBelle: If you have to

NaBelle: If you have to hide behind hair to feel or appear “beautiful” to the rest of society you have issues. For those of you saying “not all women can pull off the natural look”….please reflect long and hard on what that means. You’re basically saying, not all black women can be truly themselves. Because “going natural” is just embracing what god gave you. It should not be a ‘trend’ it should just BE. Good Look Solange. Beautifully said! I applaud her for the courage to embrace and love herself (all of herself) as God created her! Natural sisters unite!

@ManhattanFab I understand

@ManhattanFab I understand what you are saying to a certain point but just because people perm, use a texturizer or put a weave in their hair doesn't mean people hate their culture, don't embrace it or are filled with self hate. sorry but that arguement doesn't work any more. Not every black person have the same hair type or texture and the nappy hair comment Really? isn't that a bit of self hatred. I don't mind that she is going for the natural look but honestly the haircut doesn't flutter her face or features.

Rod: I find it sad that

Rod: I find it sad that when a black woman would wear their hair the natural way that GOD made it, that people will say all of these negative comments about it. Yea it may take a little getting use to for some people but think but I think it is sad that these black women walk around with these lace fronts, wigs, and weaves all the way down to their backs to look like white women. I hope this is a new thing where the short look is in and black women start doing something with their real hair. I hope that her sister can do something with all that fake hair and stop looking like a fool. How many other races of people go through this with their hair to try and look like someone they are not. I feel bad for these black girls that grow up and are conditioned to not like their own hair and that if you have hair as close to a white persons it is good hair but the closer it is to the way that GOD made it on a black person it is bad hair. PREACH SISTER GIRL! LOL BUT I LOVE IT SHE LOOKS GREAT BLACK WOMEN ITS ABOUT TIME WE GOT BACK TO ME REAL DON'T GET MAD WHEN TRYONE IS CHASING "BETTY-ANN". I CAN'T EVEN BLAME BLACK MEN SOMETIMES ITS EMBARASSIN TO BE WITH A WOMEN WITH SOME TACKY THING DANGLING DOWN HER BACK. LETS BE REAL IF YOU DON'T TALK PRIDE IN YOUR SELF NO ONE WILL RESPECT YOU ITS ABOUT TIME BLACK WOMEN EMBRACE THEIR TRUE BEAUTY I LOVE IT SOLANGE AND DON'T PERM IT WHEN IT GET LONG. ROCK YO AFRO WITH PRIDE GIRL. I CHOP ALL THE RELAXER OUR 2 YEARS AGO AND I'M LOVING MY BEAUTIFUL GOD MADE "NAPPY" HAIR.

OK...I am currently natural

OK...I am currently natural and have also rocked a very low cut (we call it an "even steven" in these parts...and I was sexy as hell with it). HOWEVER, Solange is just not rocking it properly. It looks like she cut it herself...haphazardly. There is absolutely no rhyme or reason to the cut. She also needs a soft line...doesn't have to be a hard masculine line..but she needs one. I am PROUD of her for having the balls to get low, but please do not take it there if you cannot/will not do the cut justice. I think this goes to show that "we" do not know what to do with our natural hair. She needs to just take it all the way down and start over. She even looks self conscious, if you ask me. Do Better!
