Mike Tyson Gets Emotional On "The Oprah Show"

Here's the full interview of Mike Tyson on "The Oprah Show" yesterday. It was a very emotional interview about his daughter's death and his career.

Trulyyours01: While I did

Trulyyours01: While I did not see the interview I did see the movie Tyson…… I think he is NOT the animal people make him out to be, it cleared the air and made him so much more human. I think people need to sit down and watch the movie to get a better understanding of who Mike Tyson really is. God bless he and his family, I( can’t imagine what it would be like to lose my daughter! a distinction needs to be made. if you advise your daughter not to date mike tyson, if you stick up for someone he may have beaten, or indicate that no provocation was worthy of his actions...those are still appropriate no matter how much you identify with him. robin went back to mike because she identified with him, could have died from that. rihanna went back because chris cried and showed his humanity and weak points and shared his story. don't over do it.that's treating him like what he is. we know he cries, we know he's been through struggles in his life. and, we know his weak points- they just happen to coincide with a coping mechanism that could end a life. so, if you love yourself properly that should outweigh your pity for him. you can still call him out and others like him out, make them accountable for their actions (because that is the only thing that can stop it)- that is not treating him like an animal...if some thing it is...well, fine. it's still necessary.

When Mike Tyson's interview

When Mike Tyson's interview was been publicized all over the place, i was just not interested, because I felt things like that are just done for ratings, and didn't care at all for Tyson either. One thing I'm impressed the most about, is how he's able to be honest, open, and real about himself. He tells the truth, and it explains everything about him, the reason he is the way he is, and the reasons for acting the way he was acting. We often forget that, behind the toughest guy or the softest is a human being with real feelings, of hurt, pain, anger, and emotions. This is a guy who just had a very bad upbringing, nobody to really look up to or see good examples, what do you expect? The entertainment world will make it worse, that's what they want people to see, and that's how they make their money. I'm just glad he's getting help, and hopefully he can continue to be a better person.

Very emotional truthful

Very emotional truthful interview. Its nice to see someone be totally real with themself and the audience without holding anything back. He has alot to share with young men and finally he is seen as a man and not a joke. He has learned to deal with lost , hurt, lies, disappointment and has shown that it is never too late to grow up. I agree with most this is one of the best interviews on her show and who would have thought it would have been with Mike Tyson. He allowed himself to be an open book and I am thankful he let us in. The best to the new man named Mike Tyson!!!!

Yeah I dont think so either.

Yeah I dont think so either. You are so right about the rehab.

Radiant: Shamrock let me ask you do you think she will ever have Bobby Brown on her show? I don't know about that, maybe she will for ratings... But I think if she did she would not ba as sincere as she was with Tyson. I personally think Bobby has more work to do on himself. I saw the beginning of behind the music on VH1, but I missed the end. Bobby needs to go to the same rehab center as Tyson and Robert Downey Jr.

Ok Kanye! aka Zane Mac: I dont like Oprah, I cant stand her but… I will be watching this! I think now, she is trying to appeal to black people after all these years because her show is losing ratings! *side eye* OMG...now that you mention it, that makes total sense! Its like a light turned on and now she wants to interview all these ppl who have a black audience. I'm still on the fence with Oprah...pray for her cuz she I dont think she believes in Jesus. She was endorsing some man-made religion at one point. I liked the interview though...Always been a Tyson fan :-) And that baby is too precious :-)

EYE FIGHT: To understand

EYE FIGHT: To understand someone; you have to know where they came from, where they’ve been and what they’ve been through.I now see this man in a completely different way.I loved his honesty. Thank God that he got it right before it was too late!! I’m proud that he has made the decision to be a better man, hushand and father. Couldnt have said it better. You can tell he really loves his kids....did you see the excitement everytime their pics came on the screen? Just Beautiful Overall.

Hibiscus Rose: To know

Hibiscus Rose: To know someone on a casual or even dating basis is different from being married to them. I dated my Husband for 3 yrs. before we were married and the first year was a learning experience. I think too many people confuse knowing and understand a persons past with holding it against them, and it's not. Remember that saying "those who do no know their past (History) are destined to repeat it". In the black community we see this pattern in family drug abuse,physical abuse, and teen pregnancy. Just because you know someone's past does not mean that it always presents a negative, it helps prevent repeating the negatives. Yesterday was my 13th wedding anniversary and I'm glad I knew my Husbands past and I confronted mine. I don't believe in using anyone to build anything, I'm just saying that anytime Oprah backs anyone or puts her stamp of approval on a brand it's never a black person. To Tyra and TP's own merit they started their careers without the help of Oprah, and she jumped on the band wagon after the fact. My problem is every time there is a person who she is promoting (Chef: Rachel Ray/ Dr. Dr. Phil & Dr. Oz.) they are never a person of color. I understand how difficult doing buisness with us can be, I have tried and still try and I fail to find good black business; however, I don't lump the good with the bad. I don't hate or love O, I just want to see her promote her own more often.

Lucida: I have always liked

Lucida: I have always liked Mike. While everyone is responsible for their own actions, Mike never really had anyone in his life to help him, tell him the truth or even protect him from himself. Who could Mike trust after Cus? Before he met Cus? Oprah has Gayle. Whitney has her mother.Too many people wanted to exploit and use Mike. People took advantage of his ignorance, talent and wealth and then threw him out with the trash when he needed people, love and understanding the most.I teared up watching him expose his vulnerable side to the world. Everytime the pictures of his kids were shown, he was beyond happy. Mike is a good guy who was NEVER equipped with the right tools to navigate life. Did he screw up? Sure. But anyone could see that he was on a self destructive path that stemmed from pain and hurt.I wish Mike the best and I have always been a fan. Excellent statement!!

Ok Kanye! aka Zane Mac: My

Ok Kanye! aka Zane Mac: My specific is given the situation with Ludacris. I used to watch Oprah every now and then but after this incident, I stopped watching her. ANyway, after Ludacris made his performance (and a great one at that) on the movie CRASH, Oprah invited the whole cast onto her show, the whole cast except for Luda. SHe claimed he demeaned women and used the N word so much that she was disgusted and more importantly, he was a rapper, which she stated she would never have on her show. Luda made a statement about how it was wrong because he is part of the CRASH cast and should be allowed to appear with them. Eventually, after Oprah got bad press about it, she agreed to let him on. The whole show, anytime she would talk to Luda, it wasn’t about his acting career but about his music and choice of words. He was upset! Yet, she brings JAytZ on the show, who I understand does more than rap, but he is one of the most known rappers to use the word B*tch, hit women (caught on tape), use the word n*gga, talk about pimpin, ect. I just strongly believe that if Oprah is going to call one rapper out (who has sone so much for the community) she needs to do the same for all. I dont know what made her have JayZ on her show or even why she doesnt bash him like she did Luda but I dont like it! Thats my main issue and that is just one instance. At the end of the say, I know there are people who LOVE Oprah and I wont take that from them, I dont care for her. I respect her accomplishements but I just dont like some of the things she does. YOU ARE WRONG/ Ludacris did appear on the oprah show with the cast of CRASH. During the show she did shay she didn'tagree w/ his music, but that his performance in the movie was too good to not have him on. CHECK YOUR FACTS BEFORE YOU SPREAD A LIE Ludacris was on Oprah.

@Shamrock ... yes Oprah

@Shamrock ... yes Oprah doesn't give us a platform but we cannot use Tyler Perry or Tyra who both were influenced or given opportunities by her ... she is trying to build black empires without her money muddled up in it... you know how our black people get very ghetto and nasty when things fall a part in business she was protecting herself but with Tyra and Tyler she is trying to say build up us and make your own empire while possibly hiring your own people and teach them to do the same ... just like Magic Johnson has done ... come on we can still hate her and give her some credit at the same time. I don't think I would have liked it if she had anything to do with Tyler or Tyra ... so I agree to agree and disagree with what you guys had to say ....
Hibiscus Rose's picture

@Shamrock ... do you remember

@Shamrock ... do you remember that his wife said that she has known him since she was 15yrs and has never seen that side to him ... yes she may have to look at his past but trust me if you take into stock someone else past too much it can cloud your mind in the future ... so maybe she is doing a better job by not going there and just living in the moment ... we choose our own way of looking at life and there is no wrong or right way ... there is only our way. @Brian Fellows ... haha sorry I got here before you. As far as the Chris Brown Story goes ... like I have been telling people ... Oprah only does interviews if you have made significant changes in your life ... they call that GROWTH .... get off her tush please ... I love to hate on her too but if you guys notice TYRA was also saying bad stuff at times and Oprah had to real her in even towards the end so tell me people WHY OH WHY IS OPRAH THE ONLY ONE GETTING THE BLAME FOR THE CHRIS BROWN SAGA ... hmmm double standard .... Yes some of you are right about Tyra taking over the Oprah empire but you also have to remember Oprah has mouths to feed and families to feed so if she goes plenty of people will loose their TV jobs even though she has her radio shows and many other business ventures. @Ok Kanye ... WE ARE ALL A CONTRADICTION, we change our views based on the times and when we further gain more information or introspection on a subject matter ... spend less time judging and look at the deeper layers while judging ... we all form judgments then when the layers are peeled back and we gain new perspective then we change our views on the subject if we really are here to learn and grow ... Oprah learns and grows constantly that is why her views seems to change all the time ... I guess you are still stuck on stupid .... now don't think I love her all that much after all she did a hacked up job on Michael Jackson and especially since he is still not here to defend himself. @SH on the grind ...you are sooooo right

I watched the documentary

I watched the documentary about a month ago....If you haven't seen it pick it up....The interview was one of the best I've seen with Mike Tyson...It really did humanize him...and he can be brutally honest...I feel he still has a long road ahead of him....But he is ready for it...God Bless you and your family Mike!

Shamrock: Point taken. That

Shamrock: Point taken. That was wrong how she treated Luda, I did see that because I saw the movie Crash. I also did not understand the whole Jay-Z interview, I did not catch that so I cannot say she acted a certain way. I will say I think Jay gets a pass with Oprah because he is married to Beyonce. I’m not a big rap fan since it has changed so much from when I listed to it in my youth. I do have some rap on my ipod, but it is only the stuff that is positive and gets me through my cardio. I will say O can leave a bad taste in your mouth, my main dislike about her is the people she gives a hand up like rachel ray, dr. phil, etc.. when is she gonna give a brother or a sister a hand. The only person she has promoted that is black is T.Perry. She does need to work on some areas as we all do. Thanks for the great conversation. Those were my thoughts. Yup... I dont mind sharing my point of view with someone who is interested. :)

Shamrock: Maybe I missed

Shamrock: Maybe I missed it, but what exactly did she say to write CB off as an abuser? The only time I thought she talked about it was when she did the show with Tyra, and I did not see all of that, so I think I missed alot. But I don’t think now is the time to do an interview with CB, he needs reflection time. In the Larry King interview he got his words all twisted and come off looking like he did not really care about his mistakes. Like for instance if Mike had said he wanted to sock Robin a month after the Barbara Walters interview he would have gotten the side eye for real, but when he was able to sit back and analyze himself and that relationship we kinda understood what he felt and why their marriage was volitle. Time heals all wounds and creates understanding. I say that from experience, thanks for the great conversation. She said something on her show like "This is for all the Rihanna's of the world"... it made people conclude that she believed, without knowing the story, that Chris B did everything and she did nothing. but.... ugh I so dont want to get on that subject.. it turns into a war lol

She probably isnt willing to sit and talk to him. Oprah is not God. My point is exactly what you said he is 20, and has so much more growing to do before he can really understand what happend with him and Rhi. Let's get that interview with CB when he really has some knowlege to share about what happened. You saw how he looked and acted on Larry King? He has not really grasped what happened, and what everyone is ignoring is the white media does not care if he comes off looking like a monster they just wanted words for more of their sound bytes to further condemn him. IDK how old you are, but when I look back at things that I did at 20, I gained a different perspective and understanding of what I went through now that I am 29 ish(LOL). It's not always about interviewing the HOT entertainer caught in their bad situation, but putting positive knowledge out to our young people who need to learn something, and right now CB can't teach them anything. Much respect.

I know everyone is gonna think I'm an O groupie, but I agree. His wife is going to have to take a look at his past so she can work on a positive future with her husband. When you take your vows it's for the good and the bad; however for her to ward off the bad she is going to have to know his warning signs. She should not hold his past against him, but she must understand it. If she just looks toward the future without knowing how to avoid the past it's just going to create another bad marriage.

Hibiscus Rose: I enjoyed

Hibiscus Rose: I enjoyed that interview … Mike got a chance to redeem himself which it seem as if that is what Oprah has been trying to do for some of our black entertainers …. well maybe not R. Kelly *wink wink*, though Whitney tried to give him a good shout on during her interview and she also tell Ed Lover to tell people to mind their own business when it comes to R.Kelly same thing Celine had said as well, but at the same time you have to wonder if it is for ratings as well. The world did Mike injustice, he is a tortured soul and only those who look inside a person will see that and understand without them having to tell you that for themselves, it just reminded me again like with the Whitney interview that we can’t trust White America especially the media … it just kills me so much about for Michael Jackson but I will say I am still mad at Oprah how she chopped up that show she did about him for season ratings which makes me on the fence about the Mike Tyson interview especially since the documentary didn’t just recently come out. In addition, this is the season where she will be deciding if she will renew her contract which I am sure she will b/c people “white people” will not like it if she leaves that time slot. For those who have a problem with him crying on National TV like my brother and the fact that he still is unable to articulate a sentence I say shame on you, “it is not how it is stated rather it is about the message”. We spend too much time focusing on a person’s intelligence sometimes that we do not see the message … Mike may sound a little like Frankie and Neffe but at least he has something more to offer than their foolwang behavior. I hope he is a changed man as he stated and I hope he continues to remain strong within himself until he takes is last breath on this planet earth. You never know a man who will be encouraged to change their own lives by watching this interview or the documentary. That is why sometimes I can’t knock some of the stuff that Tiny and Toya says during their show even though I’m not a big fan and don’t watch that often. Get outta my head! Lol...and I didn't like how O kept focusing on negative things and telling his wife she was in denial when its obvious they're just trying to move on from negativity.

I dont want to get into it because I want to appreciate this interview. IMO I don't want you to think I am arguing with you, because I'm not. I can understand how Oprah can be frustrating, because I think that she often creates opprotunities for white entertainers and none for blacks, but other than that how does she contradict herself. I just want to understand your point and the point of others who say this. Can you tell it's a slow work day?

Tyson screw up big time but

Tyson screw up big time but that's shows character, a character one needs to learn in-oder not to live like him, or be him. HC Hammer is the Tyson of music with bad financial reputation, but with Tyson this is more than just a lesson its an "Ah-ha" moment in you and my life... This is a good film, wish they can do that for the Williams sisters, athletes go through a lot and we don't care as "fans".

This is one of the best interviews I've seen on Oprah. Although she's condesending, talking abuot a little"g" or big "G" when he said he looked at him as god...beeyatch gets on my nerves. Funny when Mike Tyson said he wanted to SOCK Robin Givens during that interview with Barbara Walters. This showed the raw emotions of Tyson. He's a very sensitive guy that would beat your @ss. Must see! Sure wish there was another boxer like him. BAM!

Ok Kanye! aka Zane Mac: I

Ok Kanye! aka Zane Mac: I agree about Oprah but I have heard Tyra on several different occasions air herself out. Now I do believe that Tyra has not aired all of her dirty laundry, but Oprah? We know everything about her; not know her real father because her mother named the wroung man, the molestation, rape, out of wedlock baby, affair with a married man, cocaine use, her issues with food... What more do ya'll want to know about her. Her life I can truely say is an open book.

Shamrock: Seriously… We

Shamrock: Seriously… We need to grow up! If you have not noticed Oprah will not have you on her show if she does not believe you will represent Black entertainers in a positive light. She has said herself that she will have a person on the show once she feels or believes they have evolved into something better than their trials and tribulations. She said that when she had MJB on her show. I think she said Gail wanted her to do an interview with Mary and she told Gail no because she did not think MJB was through with her growing process. I say this to say CB has not grown, he has not passed the test. I’m sure he has many more mistakes to make before he becomes a real man. Age does not make you a man maturity and positive actions do. I understand what you are saying but in so many words, I will say this: I believe Oprah is a constant contradiction! I dont want to get into it because I want to appreciate this interview. All in all, I wont take away or deny that Oprah has accomplished a lot and broke many barriers....she just constantly proves as the epitome of self contradiction. IMO

luvkale: Don’t it seems

luvkale: Don’t it seems kind of backwards for and Tyra to get everyone to air out their dirty laundry, but they won’t air out theirs? I agree about Oprah but I have heard Tyra on several different occasions air herself out.

@luvkale you are so right

@luvkale you are so right about that ... I tell you that it will happen when they are both dead or a disgruntled worker will do it but then again these people sign plenty of privacy document so maybe you won't live to see the day when that happens to them. What should be said is that is Tyra taking over for the Oprah empire after she leaves TV in the future .... she seemed to have groomed her cause O must be exhausted or Not.

Really interesting interview

Really interesting interview and inspired alot of compassion in me towards Mike Tyson. He's obviously been on a massive journey, taken responsibility for his behaviour and deserves the love and joy he has now found in his life.

I enjoyed that interview ...

I enjoyed that interview ... Mike got a chance to redeem himself which it seem as if that is what Oprah has been trying to do for some of our black entertainers .... well maybe not R. Kelly *wink wink*, though Whitney tried to give him a good shout on during her interview and she also tell Ed Lover to tell people to mind their own business when it comes to R.Kelly same thing Celine had said as well, but at the same time you have to wonder if it is for ratings as well. The world did Mike injustice, he is a tortured soul and only those who look inside a person will see that and understand without them having to tell you that for themselves, it just reminded me again like with the Whitney interview that we can't trust White America especially the media ... it just kills me so much about for Michael Jackson but I will say I am still mad at Oprah how she chopped up that show she did about him for season ratings which makes me on the fence about the Mike Tyson interview especially since the documentary didn't just recently come out. In addition, this is the season where she will be deciding if she will renew her contract which I am sure she will b/c people "white people" will not like it if she leaves that time slot. For those who have a problem with him crying on National TV like my brother and the fact that he still is unable to articulate a sentence I say shame on you, "it is not how it is stated rather it is about the message". We spend too much time focusing on a person's intelligence sometimes that we do not see the message ... Mike may sound a little like Frankie and Neffe but at least he has something more to offer than their foolwang behavior. I hope he is a changed man as he stated and I hope he continues to remain strong within himself until he takes is last breath on this planet earth. You never know a man who will be encouraged to change their own lives by watching this interview or the documentary. That is why sometimes I can't knock some of the stuff that Tiny and Toya says during their show even though I'm not a big fan and don't watch that often.
