If you know how HIV/AIDS is being spread in the black community then you will know that the statements made on the View are very incorrect. Therefore a correction at least is needed. Furthermore ones sexual preference is not relevant in this discussion. If you are human you should be ashamed and angry at their statements. They perpetuate incorrect information about a very serious issue in our community. While I enjoy DL Hugley gift to make one laugh he is deadly confused on the history and facts of HIV in the black community. At the end of day people are getting infected at high rates from not protecting themselves in homosexual and heterosexual intercourse. As a community we need to stop a culture of pointing the finger and begin being active in preventing our troubles. Lets have a discussion about prevention rather than hyping up an overdone topic such as the DOWN LOW. Everyone needs to focus on the real issue: people are suffering and dying from HIV/AIDS. How can we as a community better respond to this issue? How can we teach the youth if adults are being careless in the information they communicate? Its not time for the blame game.

i always felt that it was because of down low men that aids was so rampant in the black community. the chances of female to male transmission of hiv/aids is very low, but male to female transmission is very high and male to male transmission is off the chart. it's common sense, and it will only get worse, until we as a society, especially black society, allow people to be themselves and let people live their lives the way they want to and that way men won't feel the need to be on the down low and continue to infect unsuspecting women. but also, women have to start taking responsibility for their own safety and start protecting themselves.

as a black GAY HIV+ man, i truly believe to my inner most core, that HIV?AIDS is primarily/mostly transmitted by MEN. it's is rare for a man to catch it from a woman, as it is also unlikely that a man who is penetrating an HIV+ bottom MAN, will catch it from him if the receiver is positive. the penetrating HIV+ man will almost 100% of the times transmit it to whoever he is penetrating without a condom. the hype is that woman are giving it to men, NOT LIKELY. the MEN who are contracting it are 99% of the times getting penetrated in the ass w/out a condom....PEOPLE TEND TO NOT BE HONEST ON THE CONFIDENTIAL QUESTIONNAIRES THEY FILL OUT AT THE ANONYMOUS HIV TESTING SITES, THEREFORE THE CDC GETS INACCURATE INFORMATION WHEN REPORTING THEIR FINDINDS

I will speak on this matter because being a healthcare professional and having a Gay friend, who has done extensive research on this situation, I am justified in saying that Sherri, who may not be an expert, is on the money with this one. First, it is extremely hard to come out in the Black community because of fear of being scorned and ridiculed. Thus, many of OUR man do engage, and might I add on a regular basis, in same-sex intercourse. Secondly, if you don't take Sherri and D.L. seriously, then I'm pretty sure you should take the CDC seriously. According to the CDC (2006) 1.1 million people in American had HIV/AIDS and blacks accounted for 46% of that population. Something is happening in our communities and even if the facts come from a baby, should we not listen to factual information, cautionary statistics. The point of this debate was to shed some light on the subject. Stop shooting the messengers and go out there and raise awareness. Another point that needs to be made is we as Black Americans should stop putting people in boxes; embrace your differences and people will not be afraid to be themselves.
