Wanda Sykes Gets Two Emmy Nominations + Whoopi Clarifies Her Defense Of Mel Gibson

YBF funny chick Wanda Sykes has been nominated for TWO Emmys for her HBO stand up I'ma Be Me. Details on Wanda's nominations plus Whoopi clarifying her defense of Mel Gibson when you read on.

Wanda Syke's HBO special is nominated for both Outstanding Variety, Music, Comedy Special and Outstanding Writing in a Variety Music or Comedy Special.

Sykes got word this past May that both her shows, The Wanda Sykes' Show and her sitcom The New Adventures of Old Christine, would not be picked up for another season, but hopefully these Emmy nominations can take care of that.

On today's episode of The View Whoopi clarifies the statements she made yesterday about Mel Gibson. She says that she was not defending what he did, but that she simply does not think of him as a racist.

I am a thirty-something black woman who grew up in hip hop culture and this is something that we would have danced to on a hit song last year. I have to say, I think it's pretty unfair how Mel Gibson is being judged for stuff he said in private. Everyone says things sometimes that they wouldn't say in public. I know plenty Black people who will say some extremely politically incorrect things about all races of people that they wouldn't want "outsiders" to hear. I agree that what the dude said out of order and awful. But I can't sit here and judge this man as a person based on his rants when he was obviously extremely upset (I mean the man could barely breathe). I don't think it is the fact that he said ni**a but it was the context at which he used it. He said as if he was warning her of the worst thing in the world, to get raped by a PACK of ni**as. First, I'll start off stating that I do not condone nor justify any act committed by either Chris Brown or Mel Gibson. It's funny that you just posted this....I had something related this as my profile status on Facebook yesterday. I pretty much said there were so many people that hopped all over the then 19 year old Chris Brown and said his career was over based off of this one incident. I was shocked and saddened by what happened between him and Rihanna just like everyone else. I wasn't on the "Rihanna must have did something to deserve this" bandwagon either. But It seems that Hollywood is ready to forgive Mel Gibson for punching the mother of his baby's teeth out more quickly than they would CB. Not only did he physically beat her on more than on one occasion, but he also hit her while she was holding their child and also threatened to burn the house down if she didn't engage in sex with him, he threatened to kill her if she didn't stop "acting up". And he also attacked her physical appearance stating that if she were to get raped by a pack of "N" words than it would be her fault. There is clearly a difference in the 2 situations but neither are right.

I certainly agree with whoever wrote the entry comparing the domestic incidents between the racist Hick many know as Mel Gibson and the violent attack upon Rihanna by Chris Brown. Violence upon a woman by a man is never appropriate and is an issue that is gaining popularity among the legal system. Penalties and dispositions are becoming more severe for men who brutalize women. Chris Brown is one talented kid and has an entire life ahead of him whether he remains in the entertainment industry or not. I hate the philosophy that many conjure up suggesting Rihanna "had to do something to get that". There's just no reason for it. Is she said he had a little dick than that's all there is to it. Maybe she said that because he said something about the size of her forehead. Mel Gibson is just a racist white male in White America who believes his money, women, and cars allow any desires he wishes for to be within his very reach. You are absolutely right.....the old saying is "A drunk man tells no tales" in other words if a person is drunk all their inhibitions are gone, so it's easy for them to say what is really in their heart of hearts, "way down deep". Mel only said what is somewhere deep in his heart. It's easy for people to hide their true feelings and put on a facade for the rest of the world. Also for those who may be religious, there is a biblical quote...."So a man thinketh, so is he"........Even if we can't say we actually know Mel's heart......I would venture to say that his "Pack of...." comment would be a strong indicator that racist tendencies are deeply entrenched somewhere in Mel's DNA.
