It's vacation time for the Smiths! Jada and her two chil'ren Jaden and Willow all hit the beaches of Hawaii this weekend. And looked like they were having tons of fun whie they were at it.

Only small-minded people

Only small-minded people think public school, university and accepting a job working for the government or a corporation are the ONLY ways to be successful. Will Smith and Jada Pinkett have obviously done just fine with their careers. Why shouldn't their children follow in their footsteps? The Smiths are NOT average people, therefore they do not have to do average things. They can afford to DO and BE and GO anywhere they want in their lives.

My daughter was homeschooled

My daughter was homeschooled because she was being bullied in school. Because we were from a small town where everyone knows everyone, the bullies were not punished and the teachers acted as is they were afraid of the students. I removed her from the school, homeschooled her and she is now a wonderful college student at the Art Institute. I applaud the Smiths. Every child is different and has different needs. It's up to the parent to decide what is best for their children. Please, let's stop being crabs in a bucket when one of our own makes it. Maybe if they were doing drugs at 9 or 12 like Tatum Oneal or McKenzie Phillips, we would feel better. They would fit the average black profile.

As a certified educator who

As a certified educator who does home tutoring and home based instruction, I can safely say there is nothing wrong with homeschooling children as long as they are exposed to age appropriate social groups and experiences. Group sports, girl and boy scouts, karate, and local community center programs are good examples. The Smith children seem bright, well spoken and pretty grounded, in my opinion. It seems like Will and Jada are at least trying to give them the confidence & well-roundedness needed to succeed in the world AND very importantly---HOLLYWOOD! We should follow their lead and stop relying SO much on the public school system (or even private in many cases) to educate our children. Parents, get involved and attend school meetings, if you cannot do homeschooling...At least be open minded about alternatives. Our schools are failing our kids!!

I have no problem with homeschooling and I do agree that public school and private school are not the best options for everybody. However, when a 9 old child cannot read the word "congratulations," that is a problem and that is the problem that is facing the Smith's little girl.

You can't be serious right? You don't know how the word looked on that plaque, it might've been in some fancy lettering or the poor "9" year old could've been nervous. You do have a big problem when you take one word from her mouth that she could not say with ease and now make it her reading level. Just remember she's in the 3rd grade. While you are stressing over a word she is living her life, being successful, and making money.

I was bullied mercilessly my

I was bullied mercilessly my first two years in highschool, so much so that I considered suicide many times. I was so young and didnt know how to cope with the daily humiliatin and cuts to my self-esteem by other girsl. If my mother hadnt been able to get me out of that environment and to another school, I don't know what I would have done. As soon as I transfered, I was able to live a normal teenage life, have friends and re-build my broken confidence. But those mean girls certainly stole 2 years of my life that still brings me to tears 15 years later... Anyway, my point is, providing the right environment for your child to grow into a healthy, successful individual is what's important - not whether or not their enrolled at the local school.

All the people outraged about

All the people outraged about home schooling need to educate themself about what it entails. It is not easy!!! However, most kids who are home schooled are way ahead of their peers because of the focus involved. The only draw back is the lack of socialization, but that can be taken care of by enrolling kids in activities like clubs and town recreation. I say this all because I WAS home schooled and ended up at Yale here in New Haven CT.

I agree I was home schooled as well . I was involved with my friends and lots of activities after school so i never missed out on a social life but no matter what I still always felt like i was not part of certain life experiences that all my friends were , like when they talked about what so and so did in class or what boy was cute ,or school trips. i went to a prom with kids i didnt know I graduated from Brown university but if i could go back I would love to go to school with the other kids, schools now are not what they were when I was in school these schools today suck so those who can be home schooled my be better off , Im sure most here would home school their kids to give them a better shot if they could , hell its better then wondering how qualified your childs teacher is, just watch the movie waiting for superman this world is crazy, all of you would do the same thing will and jada do if you could. the whole hate me cause you aint me mentality is soooooo last year

Kids today have too much

Kids today have too much pressure in schools, they can't just be themselves, they're always trying to fit in and please their friends. I think it's better if they are able to stay focused in school. I have heard bad stories of kids having sex in the restrooms, fighting, drugs anything and everything you can imagine "in school". A lot of the teachers that teach today are in it for a paycheck and easy work schedule they could care less what your child is doing or if they pass. Homeschooling gives children that 1 on 1 attention they really need. Don't regret it be thankful you made it because some kids cannot. They end up in alternative school, or just dropping out.
