Reggae Artist Vybz Kartel Bleaches His Skin, Says It's No Different Than Tanning!

Formerly brown-skinned reggae artist Vybz Kartel is walking around about five shades lighter to the shock and dismay of his fans.  Get the deets on how Vybz went from cocoa to butter pecan inside...

Vybz Kartel, a Jamaican Reggae and dancehall artist, recently lightened his skin and it's not going over well with his fans.  For his part, Vybz says his skin lightening is similar to tanning.  SMH.

When asked about the change Vybz replied,

"This is my new image.  You can expect the unexpected. I feel comfortable with black people lightening their skin. They want a different look. It's tantamount to white people getting a sun tan."

Although he won't reveal what he is using to change his complexion, some sources say that his newly endorsed brand of cake soap can lighten the skin.  But even that is up for debate since fellow artist, Bounty Killer, claims his own mother has used Vybz's cake soap and her skin has not changed.

First Sammy Sosa....now this.  How do you feel about black folks going a few shades lighter?

The man looks ugly, it shows

The man looks ugly, it shows how ignorant and stupid some people can be. and he really thinks he looks good (as most of the bleached out losers do). But he looks like a zombie/ghost. They are all sick in their head. Pale people get and buy tans because it looks good but bleaching just looks sickly. hahaha they are so superficial.

If Michael Jackson (R.I.P)

If Michael Jackson (R.I.P) can get away with bleaching his skin to be white then let the man be cos ultimately Every man will be Judge by God his maker and If u believe God did u wrong by making u dark skin then let him that.

The only reason why michael

The only reason why michael jackson bleached his is skin is because he had a skin disease which was proved when he had a post morton which a friend of mine has that stops pigmentation working and eventually lightens the skin and causing it to patch bad which is why he bleached to quicken the process which I don't blame him

I came upon this site

I came upon this site accidently while googling "skin bleach",whew! deep breath. this brothers look took m by surprise and after reading all the comments, I was even more sad at the mean comments and names like Nigga!? really? heres the thing, maybe he does self hate as some of you say and he has a valid reason for his feelings obviously. I am an attractive 31 yr old female 34-25-36 measurments, I recently underwent surgery for bigger boobs, I work out 4-5 times a week, watch what calories I eat, and only wear name brand bags etc. and I have been bleaching my once DARK skin to an acceptable light brown. Now in a perfect world I wouldn't do the latter, however I beleive that socially inflicted emotional scars and over 12yrs of constant teasing taunting and rejection by..u guessed it black men and women, I hated!! being an outcast,(Im about to cry now) I was mentally beat down since the day I was born, aunts and uncles calling me the 'real black one',first day of kindergarden, little kid told my favorite cousin not to play with me cause I was too black...Come on! I'm 31 and it still upsets me. Ecspecially when I couldn't do anything to change peoples perception of me no matter how kind I was or giving, eventually I started fighting I fought my way threw elementary up until highschool I live in a small town in Arkansas, so it was tough to be "strong" when little boys and girls all black wanted to break me down for no other reason than my dark complexion. I was well spoken, smart ,funny and a loving little girl, then at age 18 a group of four black males gang raped me and afterwards they said" nobody dont want yo ugly black ass no way!" I have shared a lot and yet not even a quarter of what I have been subjected for being too black. Eventually I met a man who loves me for me cause I never was an ugly girl anyway! just super dark and we all know how black men as a whole not all feel about that. Surprisingly I am a well rounded person and try my best to be kind ,my husband is white and he told me not to bleach my skin but was open to the boobs!lol. sometimes we should be less quick to judge and more open to hear someones story, cause after all pain develops hatred in some. I remember the naughtiest taunt I was ever degraded to as I sobbed in class,"Oh lighten up!" a black boy yelled. Now the very boys who hated on me back then try to holla at me know, cause I exude confidence,I a credit to a husband who validated my self worth and saw a pretty girl that my own race done their damnest to throw asunder. heyits all good, live, love, let go.

It's a shame those things

It's a shame those things happen to you. What's even more of a travesty is that you were still looking for validation outside of yourself as oppose to your inner self. What does not kill you will only make you stronger. The self hate was only reinforced by your experiences. The even more crazier part was you received validation by the very people who put that instilled the house negroe mentality in all of those peoples minds. Live and let live as you say. Good luck on your life journey but never look to someone external of you for validation of who you are. If you aren't comfortable in your own skin how can you expect anybody else to treat you as such?

Touching story. I am a light

Touching story. I am a light skin man I like dark black women and brown women. My ex wife (of 20 years) was dark (from Africa). I love black. But you are right people are hypocrites they diss Kartel for bleaching then diss people for being "too dark". But I don't agree with Kartel bleaching he is a role model for millions and he should send a more positive message to we black people - if not this schism in our culture will never change. People diss me for dating dark skin girls. But I love everyone. Now I have TWIN girls one is Black and one is White and they are twins!! One love and bless up

I feel very sorry for you. I

I feel very sorry for you. I know what it is like to be a darker skinned woman and be ridiculed and teased, but guess what? I would NEVER alter my skin in that way for any amount of money. I am chocolate brown and that is the way that God has made me, and I don't feel it is right to change that. I'm sorry your experience was so hurtful, but what makes us stronger is standing up for ourselves in way that doesn't cave in to what other people should dictate as what we "should" look like. The confidence and esteem that you think you have is not real because you have altered yourself by the bleaching and the boob job. That is not the real you no matter what you think. You should have gone to talk to someone about your feelings of inadequacy and been able to love yourself for who you are, not change yourself to what you think people want you to look like. One day the boobs will sag, and the bleaching will make ugly blotches on your skin and you will wonder to yourself "Was it really worth it?", I hope that one day you can find it inside yourself to love you for you, no matter what other people tell you. Looking for self validation outside yourself will only prolong your unhappiness. I hope you find peace. Blessings.

I effing hate people like

I effing hate people like you! anyway I cant beleive u could go so low after I shared about being sexually assualted!!! I am a chemical dependency counselor and I talk to people who are hooked on dope, and they have to make changes in their life to be confident if only an act to just stay clean. Or should that just tell people to let them be an addict, and love themselves not matter what people think. There are at least two points of view to every situation, you should be happy for the resolutions u have made and as long as me or anyone else isnt harming or degrading others learn to except people for there own choices in life. take some of your own advice. By the way most womens boobs do sag over time anyway regardless, that was a low and mean jab. Why do u take joy out of trying to belittle others? Do you feel superior now? By the way if this confidence was or isn"t real shame on you for doing ur best to carve out another notch with the'ugly blotches' bit. speaking of "was it worth it ?" questions I think you should ask yourself that. I will take some of ur simmple ass advice & Love myself no matter what other people think. Wow you lack compassion and who on earth tells someone "I feel sorry for you?" after they share the most traumatic experience of their life! go to hell.

o go eff ur self! frankly I

o go eff ur self! frankly I dont need you to feel sorry for me, you condescending bytch!!! I can guarentee that every single woman out there in the "reality world" has done things to alter her appearance for the better. Turn on the tv you jealous idiot! N E whoo I guess comping your hair and putting on makeup dosen"t count for visual change? o please so what if my change cost 7 grand and hard work @ the gym. Why would i talk to someone so they can be rude and judgmental like you? such an effn hypocrite! fake nails all that is not "real" as u say but thats irrelevant in a world where people judge you by looks first. I bet you live in the city with a broad spectrum of folk and minds well I dont Mes. know it all!!!!!!!!!

People cut add modify their

People cut add modify their bodies because they do like what they see in the mirror. It's sad but oh well. Unless you are healthier with a modification the body should be left alone. He should have the guts to tell the truth behind the bleaching. But if it's permanent he will have to deal with it, as did Michael Jackson. If he regrets it later it's his problem. If not then he did what worked for him.

Damn. These pictures look

Damn. These pictures look like they're shots of two different people. The guy on the left has beautiful, glowing skin; the other guy looks like someone suffering from full-body vitiligo and liver failure. I'm white myself, so I don't know: ...this procedure *is* reversible, right? Does one's natural skin tone return over time? I certainly hope so!! He may look like crap in my opinion, but I dislike my own skin tone and am somewhat tempted by tanning. I therefore have no higher moral ground.
