WINNING: Pittsburgh Steeler Hines Ward Dances Away With "DWTS" Mirror Ball Trophy

The Pittsburgh Steelers may have lost the Superbowl but their wide receiver, Hines Ward, won the country's most high profile ballroom competition last night. Deets inside....

The grand finale of "DWTS" Season 12 was last night and Pittsburgh Steelers baller Hines Ward and his partner Kym Johnson walked away with the coveted Mirror Ball trophy. Hines joins Emmitt Smith on the list on pro football players who've won the Mirrorball trophy. So I guess basketball players may have game....but football players got dance (moves).

After winning, Hines told reporters,

“I heard it (my name), but I looked over and I saw Kirstie and I was like, ‘Jeez, everybody loves Kirstie.’ It had come down to voting. I really didn’t know how I would match up to Kirstie. It’s the fans. It’s definitely the fans.”

He also gave props to his partner.

"Starting this competition, I never thought I'd be in the finals, but, you know, I owe it all to Kym," Ward said."

But the road wasn't easy, at one point his partner Kym Johnson was hospitalized after injuring her neck while practicing with Hines. But Tuesday they bounced back and notched a perfect score of 30 for their samba. In the end, Hines beat out Disney starlet Chelsea Kane (third place) and "Cheers" star Kirstie Alley (runner-up).

That's the only resaon why voters will vote for her is only and only because of pity not a good dancer. I am so happy Hines Ward won

I am so happy Hines Ward won because he was definitely nice to look at (oohhhh that smile) and for someone that hasn't danced before, he did a good job. I really thought Mark and Chelsea would win because while she may not have had the fan fare of Kristie and Hines - she always did a great job with the dances from week to week. I loved Kristie though .. from the weight loss to her determination to get through the dances - I thought her efforts were commendable. I think what really won folks over with Hines is the sincerity he displayed when Kym was injured and the stellar performance they gave that week.

I'm glad Hines won. He stayed pleasant and danced well every week. People rooted for Kirstie because of her weight & people love an underdog. But she fell once and then made her partner's leg go out another time--which meant she didnt know what she was doing. But, as a 60 yr old woman she did great-I respect her for hanging in there. Still, I think the best person won.

I was sooooo happy that Hines

I was sooooo happy that Hines won!!!! This was my first season watching and I only watched because I wanted to see how Wendy did (aaawwwful!!) and I was pleasantly surprised at how well most of the dancers did. Romeo and Hines represented the men well. It could have easily been Kirstie's year to win, but the competiton was fierce and the talent evenly matched. Not sure if I will watch again (shows too dang long and filled with fluff, get to the meat already!!) but I am glad I took the time to watch this season.

I was also routing for Kristy becasue the show was originally created to see people with "growth" and improvement. Today its about star power and the show has gotten away from the learning aspect. Hines is fine as hell but if you really watch his dancing, he cant really dance. His partner is so sexy that she dances all around him. You barely notice his horrible dancing. Also, he has a great personality and that wins votes.
