LaLa Goes Vintage Glam For PYNK Magazine, Talks Turning Down "Basketball Wives" & Having First Lady Of New York Title

LaLa Anthony is on the cover of PYNK magazine's debut issue. And the basketball wife is talking about rejecting becoming a "Basketball Wife." She's also dishing on how she really feels about being called the "First Lady of New York."

New York Knick Carmelo Anthony's wife LaLa glammed it up vintage style for the cover and pics of the mag.

And she has her second season of her reality show she's gearing up for this fall--"LaLa's Full Court Life." It's on the same network as those "Basketball Wives"--VH1--so it's only natural to ask how she feels about them. Excerpts from @Pynk's interview:

On Basketball Wives
“I was offered a spot on the show. I turned it down. I have absolutely nothing against basketball wives, the show Basketball Wives, or anything like that. But I pride myself in being more than just a basketball wife. I understand that’s something that I am, but that’s not a title that I want to define me. I’d rather be known as a mom, a businesswoman, a producer, an actress, a TV host. I just felt like that didn’t fit who I was and where my career was trying to go.”

On Being Referred To As The First Lady Of New York
“I kind of laugh when people say it. It’s an honor to be called [The First Lady Of New York.] For people to even put us in the same category as Jay-Z and Beyonce — that’s just an honor in itself, but I don’t deal well with titles. To me, actions speak more than anything. It’s about being in New York now and being active, as New Yorker’s get active in the community. And getting out there and showing people what we are about outside of our businesses, with philanthropy and different things like that. That’s how you prove who you really are. You can be given a label and a title but what does that mean when there is nothing behind it? So for us, it’s about really embracing the city of New York. We kind of rushed and got here quickly, but now that we are settling in we’re starting to get out there and do some charity work and let people really see what we’re about as individuals, and as a couple.”

The hate on here is AMAZING. I am all for freedom of speech but why does it always have to be hateful? I have yet to read one post on this site that does not have a hateful comment. Even when the post is about charity work, there is a hateful comment about the person involved. I know we all have our own opinions about things and individuals but wow, this is just too much sometimes. But I guess that what happens on a site like this. People use it as an outlet to spew their hateful natures and say things they would never say in actuality.

Too bad Lala and Evelyn have a lot in common...they both waited a REALLY long time for their man to marry them; only difference, one made it down the aisle and the other didn't. Lala seems to try and put herself on a pedestal so much with this newly wife status. Girl, boom! Up until last year, you were just like Evelyn, Shaunie and Jennifer. No difference at all -- besides a stint on MTV. Other than that, they all fall into the same category. We wouldn't even be talking about her if it wasn't for her man. Um, where is Carson? Or the others?? *crickets* People just need to be real with themselves.

She is nothing like Evelyn. Evelyn bounces from player to player hoping someone will wife her old ass. LaLa had a somewhat successful career prior to Melo entering the league. She has been w/ him and only him and has his son, yes they had a long engagement but she is a classy woman who seems to put her family before anything. And she went to Howard and was a DJ w/ Luda along time ago. No she is not an A-list celebrity but she has a man and a career. Can you say the same? Being real and being critical and misinformed are two different things.

I wasnt the biggest fan of La La at one point but I've growth to like her. Her answers to these questions were admirable and I appreciate the fact that she is so humble. To you "negative"individuals looks arent everything, but I hope you'll learn to see beauty from within. BTW she is BORICUA to the fullest please dont get confused with how she looks, because all BORICUAS arent light skin with long natural hair. Im brown skin with green eyes and long NAPPY black hair and PROUD (and Im FULL PUERTORICAN)! I've never been a fan of La-La: my feelings toward her are indifferent. But I must say that her pix are FAB...and her comments are on-point. Kim K could take a page out of her book: less is more in terms of talking and drawing attention to yourself. There was only 1 continent, 300 to 400 million yrs ago "prior to the dinosaur" the earliest human, formed and emerged from AFRICA. The 1st known human found outside of Africa came from the northern latitude. As they migrated further from the equator, the color of skin, texture of hair and eye color all changed, need I say more! Therefore if all mankind is created through a woman and we all agree on that (nothing in science can change that) then the Black woman is the Mother of Civilization!
