First Lady Michelle Obama covers the October 2011 issue of ESSENCE Magazine in a gorgeous pink floral dress. And she talks about her role in the White House and how she hopes to inspire other women. Get the deets inside....

In the latest fall issue of ESSENCE Magazine, First Lady Michelle Obama talks about her journey from Chicago to the White House saying,

“My story to young people around this country and around the world is, Don’t look at me as the First Lady first; look at me as Michelle Obama, a girl who grew up on the South Side of Chicago. Because I was there, and this is attainable. There is no magic to this. It is hard work….”

In the article, “The Leading Lady,” she also talks about using her life and journey as an inspirational tool for young women, showing them that anything is possible if you work hard. And Mrs. Obama also lands on the mag's annual ‘2011 Power List,’ along with Oprah Winfrey, Valerie Jarrett and Shonda Rhimes.

When asked about Mrs. Obama, ESSENCE Editor-in-Chief Constance C.R. White said,

"Michelle Obama is the quintessential ESSENCE woman; impressively defining herself on her own terms. Opening up to ESSENCE about living her most authentic life – by following her passions and unapologetically investing in herself and her family -- Michelle Obama is embracing her purpose and channeling her power. I love Mrs. Obama but I

I love Mrs. Obama but I sometimes dislike the role she has to play with is meek. Everything about Mrs. Obama is forward and outward but unfortunately in her position, that side of her is stifled as First Lady. I am very proud of First Lady Obama, I think she is a lovely woman, and I wish the First family continued prayer as they represent the United States.

So many haters and idiots in one post. Because of course she should like start the alcoholic clinic. Not. Because she is not a former drunk. Her platform is obesity. That actually affects Black kids the most because we don't have the food programs, stores, and access in our neighborhoods that other races do. She does more than enough. She also does not have to jump through hoops for Blacks. She shows she cares. About everyone. And that is a good person.

Bottom line: Work hard, go

Bottom line: Work hard, go to school - do well in class. Go to college. Take useable classes, and graducte with a useable degree. Get a great job at a good small business, or a big company OR do it yourself - start your own business. Or get into a life of public service, working to help to improve your neighbourhoods, by going to work for the fire department, the US military, or your local police department, or go work for the mayor of your city, OR become a state senator, or a US Senator and work to try to bring improvements to your neighbourhoods. Bottom Line: Set a goal, work hard toward it - and NEVER give up!

My dear "June Moon Pearl", I have NO desire to run for elected office, thank you very much. His "likeability" rating is nothing but white folks who are afraid to come out and say they don't care for him. These same voters WILL be honest on his "job approval rating". Hell, I find Obama likeable but that does not mean I'm impressed with his job performance. His overall job approval rating is in the 30's. If you don't know what that means it spells bad news for his re-election campaign.

The Republican candidates are all crazy, uncaring lunatics! The Republicans have NO plans for creating jobs - NONE! The Republicans do not care about the poor, or middle class Americans. Republican candidate RICK PERRY is actually saying that the poor people should be paying MORE income taxes. This same clown Rick Perry - says corporations should be paying LESS income taxes - instead he wants the poor, to pay MORE income taxes! Republicans want to get rid of the Department of Education, and these same Republicans want to CUT funding to schools! Republicans also want to cut funding for college loans, and for Pell Grants - Bottom line: Republicans think that if you are not rich - you deserve to get a shitty education, and that if you do not have a rich family who can pay for your college education - then Republicans think you should NOT go to college - Republicans want to CUT Pell Grants - that help poor students afford to go to college. Republicans also think Social Security, and Medicare are unconstitutional programs! Rick Perry - who is leading the other Republican in the polls - says Social Security, and Medicare is unconstitutional - and should be ended! (By the way Social security checks is how your grandparents pay for their rent, and food), and (Medicare is the way our grandparents pay of the helatcare they need to treat their illnesses, and buy their medications) Ask yourself folks -- how are your grandparents, going to afford their rent, and food, and healthcare - if Republicans end Social security, and Medicare! How are seniors - who do not work, and have no income, going to survive - after the Republicans end these programs? ONLY a stupid person, who does not care about themselves, and their families, would vote for a Republican!

Nothing special about her, IMO. She has been a very low key first lady much like Laura bush. Her aloofness to the black community is much like her husbands. The Obamas get so much "free" publicity from black media and we eat it up. Whatever, she has stans who feel like just her presence is enough to deserve reverence. She hasn't publicly supported black women in any way outside of appearing on magazine covers. And her tired of quotes about hard work are insulting to those of us who do work hard everyday. She also is unattractive to me and I know many feel like that shouldn't matter I don't see why she is paraded around as some gorgeous symbol of black womanhood. She looks mean and downright unhappy most of the time.

Michelle Obama has had plenty of jobs. She has been an associate at a Chicago law firm, an Assistant to the Mayor of Chicago, and the Assistant Commissioner of Planning and Development. She was also the Executive Director for the Chicago office of Public Allies, the Associate Dean of Student Services at the University of Chicago. The last job she had was as the Vice President for Community and External Affairs at the University of Chicago Hospital. I remember reading a More magazine article that stated she was making almost $300,000 a year in this job. Historically, the wife of the president does not hold a full-time job of her own. Her job during his term IS to be a figure head while representing charities and causes of her choice. Google, Anonymous; Anonymous, Google. There. You have been introduced. Now use it.
