Nicki Minaj On Copycat Rumors: That Designer Is LYING! I Don't Even Know Her!

Nicki Minaj and her styling team are striking back at rumors that Nicki & her stylists stole one of her colorful Fashion Week designs from a designer. Find out what Team Nicki told TheYBF.com about the alleged copycat situation inside...

Designer Jessica Rodgers accused Nicki Minaj of jacking a design Jessica showed her, and having her own top made in a very similar way for NY Fashion Week 2011.

But now, Nicki's styling and image consultant, Joel Dash, tells TheYBF.com Jessica is full of fashion sh*t. And they have, in fact, never even met this Jessica person.

He says, "That whole story about Nicki Minaj supposedly 'stealing ideas' or her styling team being in contact with that unknown designer is a complete fabrication. It is false! This is just a designer who wants attention. We have never been in contact with this particular designer on behalf of Nicki or any other clients we currently work with."

Joel revealed that the designer of Nicki's top in question is actually a Japanese brand.

Nicki's top which is in question was created by a Japanese brand called DOG. We did not ask them to create this pieces specifically but rather saw it in their lookbook and we simply requested this look for Nicki," Joel tells TheYBF.com.

Joel went on to say, "We are not sure who created the piece first, for all we know, Jessica copied DOG."

Nicki Minaj's styling team did NOT knock off any designers here (as if you are the first person ever to use pom poms or puff balls for fashion designs - I made pom pom sunglasses 3 years ago during Coachella). To be honest, we have never even heard of SomedayNewYorker. The top was simply pulled from the Japanese designer's showroom in hopes of wearing it during NYFW. You can't tell me two people BOTH had the EXACT same rainbow pom-pom idea. The ripped off designer may be focusing on Nicki because that will get them more attention/money in a lawsuit which is unfair if Nicki knew nothing. Still, Nicki's credibility is questionable, TMZ's lying about her domestic abuse situation, the 911 call was never addressed by her, the designer is lying, etc. etc... Still I don't know why anyone wants to claim credit for that get-up!

Give credit where credit is due. If the designer was the first to publish the design, then apologize and give her credit - even if you got the design from another company. I'm inclined not to believe Nicki's team on this. It's easy to find out who published a design first - IF you want to. The collections and pictures have dates and showings. In the time it took to write her insulting PR statement they could have found out the truth. The only reason for not doing so, would be the truth is against them. If this designer is smart she'll get a lawyer and sue.
