BLACK GIRLS ROCK! Inside The Celeb Arrivals & Taping!

Gotta love anything that shows major love to the YBF chicks!  Last night celebs turned out for the Black Girls Rock! Awards taping at the Paradise Theater in the Bronx, NY.   Hosted by Tracee Ellis Ross and Regina King, the Awards show brought out the fabulous women we love to see in Hollywood.  And brought to light all the talented and philanthropic reasons why the women who were honored indeed ROCK.

Pics inside of the fab honorees and supporters and deets from the show...

Founded by celebrity DJ and Philanthropist, Beverly Bond, BLACK GIRLS ROCK!™ is dedicated to promoting positive images of women of color in mass media.  The fabulous and supportive occasion started many years ago, but this is only the second year it will be televised on BET.

On stage, host Tracee Ellis Ross went full out sequins with gold blouse and matching cropped skinny pants.  Of course, she can pull it off though.  But beforehand on the red carpet, she kept it simple in an all-white long gown:

And fellow host Regina King rocked her red look:

Nice.

LaLa, who was there to introduce honoree Taraji P. Henson, also kept it white on the red carpet in this interesting two-sided long lace gown with a solid back and slit.

And she kicked it with Mary Mary who looked cute on the carpet themselves.

Melanie Fiona rocked a multicolored dress from Proenza Schouler for the occasion.

And rocked out on stage looking amazing in hot black shorts and a long dress by Peter Piloto over it.  Topped off with Givenchy shoes.  Loving this look!

Model Alek Wek was there to introduce honorees from The Rebecca Project for Human Rights, co-founders Imani Walker and Malika Saada Saa.

Mary J. Blige performed and rocked her tuxedo blazer and black pants look.

She's really getting back to vintage Mary days I see.

Very pregnant Egypt and her hubby hit the carpet.

Honoree Tatyana Ali looked gorgeous in a multi-colored sparkling dress as she posed with BET head honcho Debra Lee.

Oh, hey Lil Mama.

Dancing queen Laurie Ann Gibson hit the carpet and came out to support.

Honoree Taraji P. Henson looked hot in her black, grey, and white snakeskin dress.  She paired it with red heels and her snakeskin clutch.

Good friends Tichina Arnold and Taraji P. Henson kicked it in the audience.

Newcomer Elle Varner hit the stage to perform.  But since this is one of her first live shows, she had a mishap and fell flat out on stage during the performance.  So her set had to be re-taped.

BET Exec. Stephen Hill was there in his pink sneakers.

Jilly rocked her curls and an all black look for the the occasion before hitting the stage to perform "Hate On Me" and some spoken word.

OK Jeanette Jenkins!  The fitness trainer worked her killer bod in a mini silver sparkling dress for the red carpet.  Yes, her side profile looks real suspect in the belly area.  But we didn't spot a preggers belly when we chatted her up on the carpet.

Estelle hit the stage to perform "Thank You" in a black sequins floor length evening gown.

But before taking the stage she rocked a burnt orange pleated bodice evening gown which was perfect for fall.

Cheryl "Salt" James was there looking fab.

Black Girls Rock! creator DJ Beverly Bond chilled in the audience with her hubby.  And hit the carpet looking fab in a black jacquard dress.

Erykah Badu hit the stage in an outfit only she would rock.  She opened with "Appletree" with her appropriately fitting all-female band:

Love her!

And Taraji & Erykah kicked it with the legendary Angela Davis, who was also an honoree.

Laurel J. Richie and Shirley Ceaser were also honorees. The show airs November 6th on BET at 8pm.

Stay tuned for our exclusive red carpet coverage from Black Girls Rock!

Lil Mama looks like Lil

Lil Mama looks like Lil Man! Something is definitely wrong w/ Tracee's eye. I've seen every episode of Girlfriends several times over and her eye was not like that. Love her though. Alex Wek, lord. I thought the child had on stockings until I scrolled to the last pic! She needs to stick to pants or ankle length dresses.

@ anon... IF YOU REALLY

@ anon... IF YOU REALLY BELIEVE ALL THAT BULLSHIT YOU JUST SAID, YOU SHOULDN'T SEEK OUT SITES DEDICATED TO THE YOUNG "BLACK" AND FAB...TAKE UR NONSENSE TO SITES THAT TREATS OR CELEBRATES ALL WOMEN OF ALL BACKGROUNDS EQUALLY...OOOPS, THERE AREN'T ANY!!!!...UNTIL BLACK WOMEN ARE CELEBRATED AND APPRECIATED IN THE SAME WAYS AS OTHER WOMEN, THEN SHOWS LIKE "BLACK GIRLS ROCK" WILL ALWAYS BE NEEDED...BLACK MEN DON'T EVEN CELEBRATE AND APPRECIATE BLACK WOMEN AS OTHER GROUPS OF MEN APPRECIATE THEIR GOD GIVEN WOMEN!...AND EVEN IF A MIRACLE WERE TO HAPPEN WHERE BLACK WOMEN ARE TREATED EQUALLY TO OTHER WOMEN, DOES THAT MEAN WE'RE SUPPOSED TO DROP OUR PROGRAMS JUST BECAUSE WE'RE INVITED TO THE "OTHER'S" PARTRY?...NO!...AND FURTHERMORE, LATIN WOMEN/PEOPLE AND ASIAN WOMEN/PEOPLE ALSO CELEBRATE THEMSELVES SEPARATELY FROM OTHERS...DO YOU GET UR WIG ALL TWISTED OVER THOSE SHOWS?....BLACK GIRLS ROCK IS THE BEST AWARDS/CELEBRATION PROGRAM I'VE EVER SEEN ON TV!

Thank you for saying

Thank you for saying something positive... God knows we need more of this than the smear we get from every avenue... "Brotha/Black men" don't do it, they are in a whole category to themselves... We have to start seeing ourselves as beautiful even it no one else does. My daughters have no fathers, uncles, brothers or young men saying how black women are beautiful, smart and strong; it's aways something negative or every comercial saying how beautiful every kind of woman not black is better... Wow how far are we going to dip. No far if we look to the hills and see this too shall pass but now we're in the trenches by ourselves and not with those black men who use to stand for something but have fallen for everything. Keep being positive!!!!!

1. Yeah, there IS something

1. Yeah, there IS something interesting about Tracee in the sequins. There almost seems to be a sheen right on that belly, but I saw her last week in a pencil skirt with a shirt tucked in in Times Square (promoting the new show) and her tummy looked as flat as it always does. 2. Tracee’s not wearing a bra in the white shirt and she needed a belt.  3. Regina was an interesting choice as co-host, considering Tracee’s on-screen man is Regina’s real life one (Malcolm-Jamaal). Regina looks fab…I just don’t want her toes hanging off those shoes like that. #getabiggersize 4. Lala’s stylist should be fired. She put her grandmother’s table cloth and curtains together and Project Runway’d that ish. #notcuteatALL 5. I like Melanie Fiona’s red carpet look, but all that extra weave is just not necessary. I think she would have been flawless with a simple inverted bob cut. (Imagine that “piece” clipped in right at her left cheek/ear was gone…wouldn’t that be CUTE?) 6. Alek looks awful. I’m sorry. 7. Mary looks flawless! 8. Egypt and her hubby are so cute together! Very happy for them. 9. Tatyana ALWAYS looks like she did her own hair and makeup. Why can’t she ever look fresh-faced and beautiful instead of like she borrowed some old smoker’s burgundy lipstick? And that old-fashioned hair? Whoever said she looked like the top of a cherry pop-tart was right! Lol – and in the second pic with Lil’ Manna, she looks like she’s saying through her teeth “hahaha…how did she get in here? Somebody get her away from me. She’s taking pictures as if we’re actually TOGETHER posing and I don’t even know this girl—SECURITY…hahahaa” 10. Laurie Ann makes me think of Janice Dickinson and Kelly Bensimon. Crazy. 11. Taraji looks like she gave her stylist and makeup artist the night off too. Looks like she went to TJ Maxx and DSW for this outfit. Where are her accessories? That “purse/clutch” looks like a sunglass case. Too matchy. The colors do nothing for her complexion and the shoes are average. 12. Tichina looks like that chic from 702. I didn’t even recognize her. 13. Jilly’s looking a lot like her old self. I like! 14. I think Salt looks great. 15. DJ Beverly’s dress looks long and her legs look old- but maybe they knew that showing her knees wasn’t flattering, so maybe they did the right thing. Still, with SO MUCH DRESS, I think she needed less coverage on her shoes. Maybe something strappy would’ve made this look less funeral-ish. That “thing” on her hip (where her hand is) and that heavy necklace were just all TOO MUCH for a dress with a print already built-in. The only thing cute here is her hair. She looked much better sitting down. 16. Badu needs to do better. Taraji used to date Common…remember that? Maybe THAT’s why she has that mean mug on! And looking at the structure and boning in that shoulder pad…what is that, a bedazzled strapless bra?

Thank you, thank you, thank

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!! Why is it easier to put someone down than to build them up?!?!? We as women have got to STOP THIS!!! It's the whole reason why this show has manifested due to people who can break a black woman down from A-Z. We have to re-learn to see beauty before every little flaw (and we all have them).

Most of the ladies looked

Most of the ladies looked FAB: Tracy Ellis Ross, Regina King, Mary Mary, I luvs me some Melanie Fiona...MJB looked GREAT, Tatyana Ali, Salt, DJ Bev Bond looks great but I swear she looks like Syleena Johnson's long lost twin-scary...Taraji, Lala, Egypt has that preggers glow, Jill Scott-fellow-Philly-diva like me... Estelle's gowns were nice too. But Lil Mama and Tichina Arnold--no Maam! All-in-all, its always great to celebrate US! And we as women have strong opinions on fashion which is not the same as tearing each other down culturally. Some of y'all posting here need to chill & remember that EVERYONE can have an opinion.
Godiva-Diva...Obama2012!!!'s picture

I agree... White women wear

I agree... White women wear weave also. People just don't notice it as much. Every single celeb has worn weave before... white, black, latino, puerto rico.... EVERYBODY. So its not just a black thing, I wish people would stop thinking that.

for God's sake, why cant

for God's sake, why cant black women be supportive of each other for a change? African American women always complain of being stereotyped and yet y'all are just bitching on these sisters trying to make it. So what if Tracee's eye is lazy or somebody wore too much make up or gained some weight and Alek Wek lacks style? I'm from Ghana and we have a saying that 'its not everything you see with your eyes that your lips have to express'

JENNY JONES!!!!'s picture

i kinda agree, but I think

i kinda agree, but I think because there's soo few black women in the media who are shown positively, i think the idea of this organization and this show is awesome. I would preffer to see more women in the media who were not wigged up and weaved up, but at the same time I don think that should be the main focus and my overall view of how someone chooses to wear their hair is not going to be how I define their blackness...They're already black whether they like it or not and because we dont know them personally we cant say how in touch or out of touch with thier blackness they are. Some of these women are involved with amazing charities that directly effect the lives of black women positively. Maybe constant weaves to the point of destroying your own natural hair does speak to how you feel about your african features, but it is not the sum of who you are. That's one aspect of being black.
Anonymous's picture

Really.... I mean this is all

Really.... I mean this is all that you take from Such an amazing event, it really bothers me when others are so concerned about women who wear weave, I am natural and YES I wear weave when I want to, DON’T GET IT TWISTED!!! Just because you are natural does not mean that you are more in touch with your black slide, that’s the issue with Black women today, find something good to say or say nothing. EVERYONE knows that weave is not only a black thing….. People should not be focused on what others are doing for the black community just focus on what you can do….
Anonymous's picture

I am white and wearing a

I am white and wearing a weave right now and so do most of my friends and the majority of white celebrities..Don't Be Fooled.. It's not a black thing; its a Woman thing.

i live in the south, the only

i live in the south, the only african american on my job and i also wear weaves always have and probably always will. the women (white)on my job just dont seem to get that. i get questioned all the time like "is that your hair" or "how long is your hair" or even 'now how long will that last"??? just stupid questions you hear from 1st grade children!!!!! it sickens me that i cant wear my hair to my satisfaction to the point i just keep it short and simple. still weave though :) i even told one "well we wear weave while ya"ll take health risks to go under the knife. what i do to my hair is harmless. i am a 41 year old woman who feels doomed because of her hair. once i wore my own for 3 months in spiral curls no one said one word!!! because yes i do have hair that looks like weave! uggghhhh. signed one day will nut up on my job
Anonymous's picture

I'm a 44 year old woman who

I'm a 44 year old woman who go through the doom and gloom thing but just know what you said resonated with me and I'm sure others... We or should I say a lot of us feel despondent and seperate from black men, White, Latino and Asian cultures for many reasons; in our jobs and in society as a whole. So if we can take a moment to celebrate and uplift each other, just taking a moment from the grind of single motherhood, bigotry, hatred, hurt and stupidity, just a moment to exhale; and see something beautiful about US, even for a moment. Can we do THAT?
Anonymous's picture

I LOVE the fact that we have

I LOVE the fact that we have this show. I think it is very inspirational. Black people in general are the most divided of all the races, so this, to me, is a great acheivement. We need to show these young black women out here, that there are higher bars to be set than just wanting to be a video model, someone's baby mama. We are more than just ass and titties my sistahs. We are a force to be reckoned with. We Rock!

Are some of you seriously

Are some of you seriously focused on an eye? Somethign that she probably cannot change. What are you, 10 years old? That gold outfit is tragic though because it makes her look pregnant which I don't think she is. I want Mary's blouse and I love the black outfit on Estelle and she looks great. Alek should be able to do better than that outfit and shoes. She is dressed like a little kid.
