MUSIC FAB: Dawn Richard's "SMFU (Save Me From U)"

Dirty Money's Dawn Richard released “SMFU (Save Me From U),” earlier today, giving fans a sample of what's to come from her long-awaited solo debut. Listen to the track inside.

Fans of Danity Kane and Dirty Money singer Dawn Richard should get their candy bags, as she's dropped off a treat, “SMFU (Save Me From U).” She tweeted before its release:

#hearts I'm xcited to give u new music tomorrow..Singing from the soul.. We've been through alot... but we are warriors. #SMFU coming 2mrw

The Druski-produced single will appear on Dawn's upcoming solo debut GoldenHeart. Driven by Dawn's powerful voice and killer piano riffs, the track is about a scorned woman who needs to be saved from a bad man...who happens to be her lover.

I actually really like this

I actually really like this song. I agree, the sound is similar to Brandy but I'm not the biggest fan of Brandy. I love a few of brandy's songs, but I don't really care too much for her 1000Hz Vibrato, it's too fast and sometimes it's almost robotic. Dawn's element is a little more raw and simple, it's just a little better for me, I love it.

Something tells me that Diddy

Something tells me that Diddy is forcing this sound on her. He never wants his artists/partners to be 'too original' because, then, they could become a bigger star than him (remember Mary J. Blige). Diddy needs total control over the artists (and the artists' money) he puts out, or he gives them the ax. Bad Boy Records history tells it all.... For Dawn to sound like Brandy right out the gait, smh

I am the biggest Brandy fan.

I am the biggest Brandy fan. I have been studying brandy riffs and runs for years. This sounds like a song off of Brandy's last CD. I swear I though I was listening to my girl B Rocka. B would have killed it but Dawn did it great justice.

This is like an homage to

This is like an homage to Brandy Norwood. I mean if all I can do is think about how bad I want to hear another voice on your new track then that's not really a good thing. However, the song is a masterpiece. Very clever title and wording and oxymoron. She sings it masterfully but Brandy would have a number one single if it was coming from her.

I like Dawn's personality and

I like Dawn's personality and style, she might not make it to superstar status but she can work the low attention rnb market like Monica and Trey Songs, do some black independent movies-at least that's something. I really liked Danity Kane-they had some great songs, I also really liked Total and those Dream girls, but oh well, they were signed to horrible bad boy, is there any other label on earth that vanishes it's artists, how has Total not been resigned or not been on a reunion tour? If Khandi can make a comeback, then WTF is up with Total. Something about that Bad Boy contract is evil.

Record and radio execs with views like yours stop potentially great artists like Dawn reaching their potential by flooding the market with generic crap from good looking boys and girls. This to me was not R&B. I could put this next to an Adele song and it would have more in common than a dumb R&B song of this era. Dawn & Kelly are two very different types artists and had Kelly the same passion and approach to music as Dawn she'd be a huge star.
