EXCLUSIVE DETAILS: Heavy D's Wake Currently Underway

Heavy D -- real name Dwight Arrington Myers -- is being remembered by close friends and family today. The legendary rapper's wake is currently underway at Grace Baptist Church in Mount Vernon, NY.

Heavy D has come home to rest in the city where he was raised. Currently, there is a large amount of police in the vicinity of the wake and numerous streets around the church are blocked off for protection.

As this is a public viewing, celebs on hand are being escorted through a separate entrance. Heavy's friends like the Wayans brothers and Salt & Pepa have already been spotted at the open casket viewing. People are being escorted through the viewing in groups of five.

Even though there are no cameras allowed in, we're told by an attendant Heavy, dressed in a suit, "looks very peaceful."

The wake will take place until 6p EST today. And the private funeral will take place in the same location tomorrow.

Just days ago, Heavy's autopsy results were deemed "inconclusive," but no illegal drugs were found in his system. It will be several more weeks before a cause of death is determined.

RIP. He always held my hometown down unlike others. We all showed out for him. I'm glad Mount Vernon was organized. He was wearing a gray suit...looked like he was sleeping *sigh* I had to stand there a couple of minutes...can't believe it. He was just getting back into things appearing everywhere.

RIP Heavy...man, why you? why now? I know we all have to go but damn, you brother - way too soon. This just holds to the sayin that "the good die young". We are surely going to miss your stage presence, the deliverance of your performance and the joy and fun you had in giving it to us, your personality and demeanor, etc... while I did not know you personally, watching you, listening to your music and being a fan for all these years makes us feel like we did. I didn't know Heav

I didn't know Heav personally, but a lot of his fans, I feel like it. He and the Boyz made us feel so good with their music, so positive, clean and fun. You had to dance with them when you saw them on television or on state. I remember being said with his friend Trouble T Roy died. I listened to Peaceful Journey this weekend. Still mourning his death. What a star he was. One of a kind. Blessing to his family especially his daughter.

Even though I did not know "Heavy D" personally - I don't think I could bear to see him in a casket. My heart is sad and broken - as it has been since he passed. I cannot believe that we won't see him dance and sing on stage ever again. My prayers and love go out especially to his beloved daughter and his entire family and friends. My friend is a music producer

My friend is a music producer and is skeptical of everyone in the industry but he thought Heavy was the exception. He has always said great things about Heavy even as recent as a week before his passing! I'm so sad!

It seems he was the exception. They mentioned in another report that he had been suffering from an onset of pneumonia. People dont realize how serious pneumonia can be especially to someone suffering from any other illnesses(heart disease, diabetes, etc). My guess is they confirm he died of pneumonia in the next few weeks. RIP Heavy! :(
