Ashanti stopped by "Good Morning America" today to promote her upcoming album and also to perform a tribute to Whitney Houston. Watch it inside.....

This morning, Ashanti appeared on GMA where she performed a tribute to the late Whitney Houston.

She and her mom were snapped leaving Times Square Studios where GMA is taped.

I've never been a fan of Ashanti mostly because I didn't think she could sing. We'll I must say she made me take a second look (listen) at her vocal skills because she did an outstanding job. The look and sound worked for me.

David Foster, the writer and producer of the song, picked Ashanti to sing during his summer concerts. He was pleased with her vocal capabilities and though she does not compare to Whitney (who does), she sounded nice. The thing that baffles me about our community is our willingness to jump on the bandwagon 100% of some artist and hate 100% on everyone else. Clearly people don’t judge artists on the same criteria. If some of you got picked apart the way you do others, you would not show your face. Then again maybe you do…hence the reason you come to pass along the negativity in here. I watch Unsung and see the people who have talents beyond words who never get their just desserts. The record industry messes over them and then we come to put salt in their wounds. Like someone else mentioned, these are people with feelings and souls. Too much hate leads to depression, self medicating........ “Love’s in need….of love today. Don’t delay…send yours in right away”

This is the absolute BEST Ashanti has EVER sounded by faaaaaaarrr! I'm really shocked that she could even sing a Whitney song and not butcher is. Wow! She even stayed on pitch for about 80% of the song which is remarkable for her! Go Shanti Go!

I think she actually sounded

I think she actually sounded really good. DUH, of course she's not going to sound like Whitney, but she didn't butcher the song. Do people know that EVERYONE has feelings? Maybe the constant criticism, nasty comments, and negative energy shown to our black celebrities may be part of the reason some turn to drugs or alcohol to cope. And then after one of them tragically dies, everyone wants to talk about how great and wonderful they were. Give people their flowers while they're still living!!

She sounded a whole lot

She sounded a whole lot better than I thought she would. All in all, she didn't sound horrible, and 'brought it' as much as she can with her limited vocal chops. I don't think Whitney would be upset, she was a big cheerleader of young girls in the game.

It was so cute- she cleared her throat before she sang and was all nervous like- "Im bout to do this for my girl eff the haters" I really felt like she tried her hardest like she was singing only for Whitney. That was cool beans and as real as they come. I knew I always liked Ashanti- but now I respect her.

That was pretty cool for a tribute. Call me a spiritualist, but I think the whole point of her not sounding as good as Whitney was so that you could hear Whitney singing it without even trying to. I know I did! You cannot tell me that you listened to this and didn't hear what it was suppose to sound like in your 'knower' (subconscious). At every note where Ashanti didn't sound like Whitney, I heard Whitney, nonetheless. I heard what it was suppose to sound like (Whitney) just as clearly. I know I'm not the only one who heard Whitney singing this as I listened to it. You cannot tell me that you did not hear Whitney's voice singing this, even though Ashanti was performing it. Like she was channeling Whitney, or something. Pretty cool for a tribute, imo.
