Mariah Carey Talks Whitney, Nick, & Her New HEART Cause On "GMA"

Mariah Carey stopped by "Good Morning America" earlier to speak publicly for the first time (besides Twitter) about the loss of her good friend Whitney Houston. Pics and video of the emotional singer revealing how she felt about Whitney, plus updates on her hubby Nick Cannon and her new heart-ful cause.

She's a mom to twins Moroccan & Monroe, a wife (and nurse) to Nick Cannon, and was a good friend to the late Whitney Houston. When Mariah was asked by Robin Roberts today on "GMA" about her relationship with the legendary singer, whom she collabo'd with on "When You Believe," Mariah was very emotional and still in a bit of shock.

Fighting back the tears, she revealed about their relationship, “I’m almost incapable of talking about it. It’s very heavy for me emotionally....It was great and I don't think people could ever understand our relationship ... there was always this supposed rivalry in the beginning and then we did the duet and we became friends. I loved her. We all loved her. May she rest in peace ... her legend's gonna go on forever."

About the funeral she attended this weekend, Mariah said, “It was such a class act. The way she went out and the way family dealt with it, I was very moved."”

Here's video of her speaking on Whitney below. She also unveiled her new PSA for the American Heart Association (which she co-directed herself) and confirmed that Nick is doing much better after his health scare. And that he is making necessary lifestyle changes--including quitting his daily morning radio show in L.A.

Whitney Houston is the best vocalist ever. Her nickname is the "VOICE". R.I.P Whitney I also admire Mariah Carey a lot. How she's tried to remain true to who she is. Her voice is also unique, and powerful. She's married, now a mother, I'm proud of her. I wish her and Nick the best. She looks beautiful.

I know! I feel the same way! Its crazy how someone you never met could have such a strong emotional effect. I can barely listen to the radio without bursting into tears. If we (strangers) are all trying to cope, I can't imagine how her family and friends are making it through. She just left us too soon!

I absolutely love Mariah. She

I absolutely love Mariah. She has and will always be my #1 favorite artist. As for comparing her to Whitney, To me they had two totally different voices. Mariah's voice was effortlessly beautiful, strong and versatile while Whitney's was effortlessly Powerful and clear. Depending on which song you're listening to they consistently out did each other. And still til this day, it's not one singer that compares. Mariah and Whitney have not been able to hit those notes in almost a decade but still out sale all the current artist with new and old albums. The quality of there music and voice has yet to be duplicated. I love them both, they have always had a certain class about them that puts them above the rest. Yes even Whitney with her foolishness and drugs addictions were not enough to de throne her, instead people just pressed the ignore button and awaited a comeback. I really hope Mariah keeps being who she is and only gets stronger because at this point she maybe the only legend left that is a world wide influence. The illumi people or whatever they're called can't afford to touch her, because they will have nothing left. Alicia Keys and J-Hud don't have the same affect no matter how hard they try. Celine Dion is just good as Mariah and Whitney but he audience is limited because she spent 10 years of career performing in Vegas instead of going Global.

Mariah looks goooood! I'm still tripping over Whitney. makes me appreciate Mariah's talent that much more though. I was listening to the Emancipation of Mimi (yes, I still rock that how many years later?) and I was like omg...she can sang. Not sing....sang! She's one of the few true naturally talented vocalist we have left on the scene. Christina A is the only other one I can think of. Everybody else is manufactured pop stars or trying to be deep neo-soul but can barely hold a note singers. *sigh* RIP Whitney.

We shouldn't blame any people

We shouldn't blame any people at the funeral for Whitney's demise. We didn't live with Whitney , so we can't say who came into her life, and actually tried to help her. All we know is what the media wants us to know. Whitney didn't discuss her life with the media, and she definitely didn't talk to the media about her celeb friends, and what they discussed. It's so messy of people to say that noone helped Whitney, when defending a person is helping them. Kevin Costner defended Whitney in the media, I'm pretty sure he was praying for her, and possibly talked to her about life. Tyler Perry tried to help her, evident by his eulogy. Cissy Houston and Dionne and the family did all they could to save her. But, Whitney had to save herself from her disease. Addiction is a disease, and it has to be treated properly. A doctor has said that Whitney was not given the proper treatment for addiction. I, think the people there tried to help, but really didn't have the right tools to do so. Whitney needed psychriatric help, to deal with her issues, that would have prevented her from staying in her addiction. evry person that I knew, that suffered from addiction, had issues that were never resolved. I just can't believe that people who suffer from addiction like MJ and Whitney , became addicted to drugs because of a simple need to party. Off-topic: I will always respect Kevin Costner, he didn't use this difficult time to promote himself, a new project. He privately sent BK, flowers, and gave a wonderous heartfelt eulogy to his friend, and allowed the world to see how much he loved Whitney the person, not the star. I always felt that Kevin would have been a great match for her, too bad that didn't happened. He seemed to truly loved Whitney the woman with all her flaws. He appeared to have been a dear friend.

Enough with the " you don't know who tried to help her" ish. Whitney didn't died of a drug overdose. She didn' commit suicide. She died accidently. That's the problem with today's folks. You spend way to much time believing every celeb are strung out on drugs and alcohol like the silliness you see on these Reality Shows. Instead of realizing that Whitney may have not thought about what she was doing like many of us sometimes do with perscription drugs.. Sometimes we over medicate ourselves and is lucky that our bodies don't react negatively. But unfortunately because she was by herself, no one was aware she slipped into a coma. Whitney didn't pull an "Anna Nichole Smith" and was on some drinking and drug binge before she died like the media is speculating. What she did was simply a mistake that cost her her life.

Costner didn't do interviews discussing Houston's death. He kept it classy, he sent Bobbi Kristina flowers and went to the funeral and repasse. His only shared memories of Houston was what he told the world at the funeral. Kostner has not spoken about Houston since, followed by a promotion of a new project. He went to the game, but he sure didn't stand outside the venue to take questions about Whitney's death. His actions were dignified and classy. What's wrong with going to a game after the funeral, it's not like he was a relative or a close friend on t.v. discussing her tragic life, knowing she had a daughter at home.

We all know that in the

We all know that in the beggining it was this big rivalry w/ Whitney & Mariah created by the 2 big record labels Clive Davis w/ Artista and Tommy Mottola w/ Columbia/Sony. I will never forget when MC came out I was in highschool in NC and Tommy said Mariah is his answer to Clive and Whitney! Tommy M copied Clive to the" T" on how he brought MC out. He took Clive's format of creating a Super Star but in the end they became friends. Mariah always knew and still knows Whitney could out sing her any day. I am proud to say Whitney was always my #1 and MiMi was #2. I am a fan of both of these ladies. WH & MC are the only singers that I have bought any and everything they have came out w/. Whitney will all ways be My #1 vocalist. I will truly miss her. Whitney's true fans were always rooting for her and always believed she would be ok. In the end all things come down to having to accept God will. Instead of crying now when I think of her and her beautiful voice I smile knowing she really is at peace now. I know Mariah did love Whitney her ex Tommy was the one that started that drama back then. Even Tommy M has said recently on CNN that he has worked w/ the best naming Celine D and Mariah and more. He admitted that Whitney did and always will have the best voice of all. I am so proud of MC and only wish her the best as a new mom and hope she will stay on the straight and narrow. These women have true talent. It's hard to jump on the bandwagon of less talented singers when you have fallen for the best since the beggining. I guess Christina A, Leona L and Melanie A from the X factor could be next as far as good vocalist are concerned . I know CA and LL need new and better music *Note to Toni B you were never ever on WH or MC level . In response to the comment that she made recently that her and Whitney always were friendly rivals. Girl Please just like LA Reid said when you went bankrupt the first time. You were always delusional thinking you were on WH & MC level of success and spending money as if you had their type of success. Toni had good music but never got to their level of success.

I understand and feel as Mariah and I am still in shock and so sorry. Mariah and most of the celebs that attended may have tried to help Whitney to encourage her. Friends have their lives to live and friends have problems to. Some times friends cannot help you.
