Eddie George CLAIMS Rachel Connor SIMPLY Offered Him A Ride, They Are Not FOOLING AROUND

Eddie George is on the defensive this week denying an affair with pro golfer Rachel Connor and defending his marriage to SWV's Taj. Get his side of the story inside...

Just because you are riding home with someone (who's not your wife) at 2am doesn't mean there is any hanky panky going on...at least that is what retired NFL superstar Eddie George says.

After he was found in the passenger seat of pro golfer Rachel Connor, who was busted for a DUI, Eddie is now defending their friendship AND his marriage.

He told TMZ that Rachel (shown above to his left) was "simply trying to be nice by offering me a ride" Wednesday morning after a golf event in Florida. And about he being drunk, Eddie claims, "I believed her to be competent to drive and not impaired at all."

Clearly the cops disagreed....but what do they know? Here's Eddie's statement....

"As part of a two-day charity golf event, a group of us who had played together on Tuesday celebrated at dinner. The group included Rachel Connor."

"After dinner, as everyone left the restaurant together, we realized that Rachel lived the closest to where I was staying. So she offered to drop me off. I believed her to be competent to drive and not impaired at all. We were stopped shortly after we left."

"At first, I hesitated to respond to this story. But I now see that people are willing to think the worst. So my wife, Tamara , and I believe we have to address this."

"Rachel Connor was simply trying to be nice by offering me a ride. No one in our group felt she was impaired or we all would have stopped her from driving."

If Taj is cool with the situation, what do they rest of us have to say? She's the one who had to "Co-Sign" for his love.
