GIRLFRIENDS: Gabrielle Union & Mara Brock Akil Take A Hike

Actress Gabrielle Union spent some fitness time yesterday with Mara Brock Akil, the producer/director of the upcoming BET show "Single Black Female" she's shooting the pilot for soon.

Two of our fave ladies! 41-year-old Mara Brock Akil, who writes/produces tv shows like "Girlfriends," "The Game" and the upcoming Sparkle movie, took some time away from her computer to get in a workout with her actress friend, 39-year-old Gabby Union, in Studio City, CA yesterday. The in-shape twosome laughed it up in the parking lot after getting in a hike.

Gabby tweeted today: "Yesterday did a 2hr hike, today is a park workout...u don't need a fancy expensive gym to keep it tight...let's GO folks!"

A makeup free Gabby rocked her UnderArmour workout gear and still kept it cute.

Gabby's Good Deeds movie came in #2 at the box office during it's opening week last month. And her next film Think Like A Man premieres April 20th.

Ms. Union also spent the weekend in Austin at SXSW to premiere her new independent film In Our Nature, where she plays the new girlfriend of a single father as they go on a complicated journey in their interracial relationship. Check out the trailer below:

The synopsis: A portrait of two couples at a crossroads. An estranged father and son, both on the verge of starting new families, accidentally end up in the same country house with their girlfriends. As the weekend devolves into an awkward reckoning, both couples find themselves questioning their future.

this is the problem i have with MS GABBY why talk about superhead when behing closed doors you are the superhead ? every guy with come type of clout + power has hit it and quit it.(yes gabby has ran thru the NBA & NFL) Thats why i dont take her serious AT ALL.also her friend Sanaa Lathan i dont like her either these women do not have respect for peoples marriages because they have both torn up homes because dwayne wade was not the only one

Stop labeing folks. You couldn't possibly know if what you are saying is true unless you were watching them in the act. She and some of the men you are likely talking about have spoken on that fact that they have been incorrectly labeled as an item when they were just friends. And for anyone she has dated, that is between them.

I wish Mara had not let the

I wish Mara had not let the The Game become such a trainwreck. Its a waste of such good actors. That movie looks cool. We rarely see films about black people that just explores the relationship between a parent and child. Which is such a shame cuz we black folks have a lot of mess that can be explored in terms of those relationships. This movie looks well made and nothing like a Lifetime production. Maybe now we can see that Gabby can do something other than comedies.

It never ceases to amaze me

It never ceases to amaze me how people can find the smallest, most insignificant things to complain/hate about a person. Gabby has always been a beautiful black woman in my opinion, and since I am not privy to the details of her & Dwade's relationship, I can only form my opinion on the info provided to the general public. So as far as I'm concerned, she & Dwade look amazing together, and seem to have a sincere loving relationship! I wish them the best! I think her previous, as well as current career moves has shown her to be a smart business woman, who has managed to stay working in an increasingly hard industry for black women!! So all I have to say is continue to stay fab Gabby! You look awesome & from the interviews I've seen, you seem down to earth!!!

Gabby is either super sweet & friendly or she is a Kiss Azz. She knows who to befriend. Tyler Perry is always putting her in 1 of him movies. Now, she is friends with Mara & getting her own show. It sounds like Gabby will play her typical snooty role.....as usual. The Game has really fell off, so I hope they bring it with the new show.l

This show will be a fail. I am sorry to say. Every show that Gabby was on failed. Now you want her to be a lead character. The creator of Grey Anatomy will have better success w/ Kerry Washington's show as a lead character. Yes I will watch a good actress like KW. When will people see Gabby does not have mass appeal. A lot of people like myself just don't like her. I still know married women who still won't support her in regards to her so called cheating when Dwayne W while he was still married. I for one support shows w/ black females/males that can act like: Regina King's show Southland. I will also support Kerry Washinton's show because she also can act. Why not ask people like Sanaa Lathan and other good black females actresse's to play in their own sit com. Bad actors no matter what color ANNOY me and Gabby is #1 on that list. She acts the same in everything she plays in. No range in her acting skills at all. I put her right down there w/ Tatyana Ali's bad show That Girl on TV 1 . Both are a waste of time and money!

I agree and b4 all the Union stans start calling me a hater let me just say I agree bcuz I sat thru her last attempt at acting in "FlashForward".....I hv seen more than a few of the movies she has been in and just my opinion....she CANNOT act......what is sad is that we can't state our opinions any more w/o some1 calling it hating.....I am not a puppet or a robot.....not everything is appealing 2 me....
