MOVIE FAB: SONY Pictures RELEASES The "SPARKLE" Trailer

Earlier today, the trailer for the eagerly anticipated movie SPARKLE starring Whitney Houston and Jordin Sparks was revealed on "TODAY". Watch it inside....

The "TODAY" show had an exclusive first look at the trailer for Whitney Houston's last film, Sparkle (August 17), this morning.

Directed by Salim Akil and written by Mara Brock Akil and Howard Rosenman, the all-star cast of the film includes Jordin Sparks, Tika Sumpter, Mike Epps, Derek Luke and Cee-Lo Green.

I'm an original Sparkle fan so it's hard to get into even the trailer...they should have called this movie something else...not remade it, just made an original movie with similarites...especially when they seemed to have changed a lot of the story...

I'm annoyed by it

I'm annoyed by it actually...I love the original...however I was willing to give it a chance soley off of Whitney lending her talent to it. The singing is weak...I thought they would've Curtis Mayfield's done away with original score(that the original cast and even Aretha Franklin sang 20xs better) and hit some new music, but ummera...I'm not feeling it...

Sparkle was a successful

Sparkle was a successful film, and is something of a cult classic among African-American audiences. Its success was inspirational in the creation of the musical that would eventually debut on Broadway in 1981 as Dreamgirls. In fact, one of Dreamgirls' central characters is named "Effie", the name of the Mary Alice character in Sparkle.So basically Dreamgirls is a spin off of Sparkle.Plzz go do your reseach PLZZ!!!

I love love love the

I love love love the original. I am not feeling even the trailer...they should have called it something else but had it be similar to Sparkle because the story seems to have a lot going on...not like the OG... :(

I am really surprised by the

I am really surprised by the negative comments on this film. You haven't even seen the flick yet and wanna bring it down because you wanna compare it to DreamGirls and the 70s Sparkle. Remember when Dreamgirls got great hype and excitement based on the cast and previews, and it opened to mixed reviews? I for one wanna see this, not just for Whitney, but this looks good.

Negative comments aren't

Negative comments aren't alwsys for the sake of being negative. Especially when they're true. The trailer and commercial previews are clips of the best parts of the movie. If it looks like this now, we can't expect it to get any better when we actually pay our 12 dollars to go see this weak stuff. Further 70's movies were (by nature of their own era) corny in some ways and this doesn't seem to top it. That kind of annoys me personally. you're right I should see it first before judging it completely...and I will...when it comes out on DVD, so I can return it if I don't like it.

I will definitely go and see this!! Whitney looks great and I'm sure she gave a stellar performance. The Queen would not associate herself with anything less than great. I'm sure the movie will do much better than Battleship!

I do hope it's good, but it

I do hope it's good, but it doesn't look like it will be. Further you make a good point about how dreamgirls is way better. While it's NOT dream girls, it's a remake of Sparkle, it does come off a LOT like another dreamgirls. 1. i keep seeing an effort to cast a Beyonce' look-alike in this silly re-make and 2. when I look at this preview all I hear is the MUSIC to dreamgirls... That's not a good look for a flick that's NOTHING like dreamgirls. SPARKLE was altogether different as far as the plot of personal lives and the intense amount of Drama and REAl acting in the original Sparkle. It doesn't look low-budget to me, just lazy work all around.

Please watch the original. This movie looks nothing like the original which was one of my favorite movies of all times. Any one who has seen the original knows it is nothing like Dreamgirls and is not based on the Supremes. In fact the movie Sparkle was released years before Dreamgirls was on Broadway. Sparkle is more of a coming of age story and tells the story of the lead characters rise to fame despite her many trials and tribulations. It is also tells the love story of Sparkle and Stix.

Well...The O.G. Sparkle was classic to it's time....At that time that type of movie made sense. I think they would have been better serve doing a more modern of today look and take from a 2011 point of view about the music industry and girl groups....The movie just looks like the same o same....light skin chicks and people ...getting movies...is Terrence Howard in this too? ...LOL sorry just keepin it real. , there is no appeal. There's nothing new added. But, hey...it ain't my money....lol I'll probably wait on the free view. I do want to hear the songs by Whitney. Did they use the wrong make up to make Whitney look lighter? lol My mom is darker than me and my sisters....Dark skin people can have light skin children you know...wow.

I loved Whitney. I really

I loved Whitney. I really miss her VOICE. She had such a TALENT and a BEAUTY. Im not sure if I want to see this movie however. Whitney was in desperate need of money that is why she did this movie to try and rebuild an income stream. I just think it's too soon to see something like this. I know people are saying she looks dead and everything but they do have a point. Whitney was not at her best at this stage. And she does not look good here at all. It's very hard to honor her memory when you see images like this. Addiction is a life long issue but I don't want to remember Whitney like this at all. Her gifts were gone at this stage and she was very lost and on Drugs. I just don't like it when people rush things out like this to make money. Tyler Perry is also USING Bobbi Kriss in his new movie for the same reasons Oprah rushed that interview. Even Cissy felt it was too soon for Krissy to be "acting" But since Tyler Perry was so involved with the funeral....People are just users. Tyler Perry learns well from his mentor Oprah. All of this makes me sick to be quite frank.

Why are folks acting like

Why are folks acting like Whitney was a kid. Why don't they go out and take Lindsey Lohan from her crew. Are they going to wait until she dies from her personal struggles to act all benevolent. Anyway, everyone knows that removing oneself from addiction is a life long struggle. Something that only Whitney had to fight. All this ish about removing those from around her only serves to blame shift. Anyone who has had someone dealing with any kind of drug issues can attest, all the talking, preach, tough love, and sympathy in the world won't deter them if they are not ready to let go. I'm so sick of how the media is treating this woman. They all want to act as if they had the answer for her life. Yet all I see them doing is acting as if she's the first person to die tragically. And let's be real, her body simply gave out from her many years of drug usage. Let's stop acting as if she Over-dosed or something. Why can't we celebrate her life instead of dwelling on her struggles.
