There's no way a real college

There's no way a real college student with all of it's stresses has the ALL THIS TIME to devote to a commentary section of a blog. I suppose it wouldn't be so bad if all this person spewed out was positive, building or nurturing. Needless to say I for one wouldn't mind reading from this character. Smh!

Taraji always looks great. And from any self-help book, you may need not apply all of what you read. But you can get something from it.

I'm not sure if everyone who

I'm not sure if everyone who has commented are African Americans, but I'm pretty sure you are. It's so sad, that the only thing you all can find to do, is tear down other African Americans. These people have worked hard to get where they are today and they deserve credit for that. What are you doing with your life? How many books have your written? How many movies have you been in? What are you doing to better or community? Before you start judging other people, take a look at yourself first. "As the song goes, sweep around your own front door".

@Glamorous One 12:18 pm I

@Glamorous One 12:18 pm I can't speak for anyone but myself and FYI I'm a college student. My Parents are very successful and highly educated and do very well. And by extension they have educated me well and I'm in college doing fine. I think YOU are making sweeping stereotypes by your comment. Just because someone writes a book or is featured in a film that does not place them above criticism. I just fail to understand this line of reasoning you're tying to employ? Are you saying that African Americans have to all go to a Steve Harvey movie and watch whatever is being played out on film just because another African American produced it? Are you also saying that people of other races can't offer their opinions on something that a Black person makes? Excuse me???? I think people like you need to rethink what you express. Last time I checked people can express a point of view and even if YOU don't agree with it people can express it. And just because people see beyond the superficial and you don't...that does not invalidate what they are saying. Maybe you should look deeper at things and maybe you would discover that the mediocrity that is passed off on black audiences needs to cease. If I want to see a good "romantic comedy" it won't be anything with MISOGYNIST like Kevin (degrade women in strip clubs) Hart or Steve (Messy) Harvey in it.

FuriouS StyleS™® 12:46 pm -

FuriouS StyleS™® 12:46 pm - Apr 3, '12 Your "high-horse" mentality is amusing. It's rather strange how often you see fit to convey your educational status as though this validates any of your statements. There are some of us who are equally as educated, and, arguably, perhaps even more educated that you are (with regard to our number of degrees, successful businesses, et al)! Some of us have long surpassed your "Undergraduate perception of thought"...but, I digress... Instead of providing us YBF readers with your pseudo-intellectual psychobabble, why do YOU not produce thought-provoking movies? Or, how about writing an awe-inspiring biography for us to read? Just as you are human, you are entitled to your views. But, this entitlement is not limitless and it does not span across or extend to the views of others. You can dislike movies such as these as much as you wish for as long as you'd like, but you DO NOT have the authority to criticize others with dissimilar taste.
Lost In Paradise's picture

@ Lost In Paradise I like

@ Lost In Paradise I like what you wrote. But let me correct you on a few things. I don't have a "high horse" mentality. And I am an intellectual there is nothing pseudo about me. I do have an interest in creative writing and the beauty of that is that I can create characters and scenes that I would enjoy to watch and hear. But I'm not sure many blacks would see my films much in the way that few African Americans even know the work of the black director Steve McQueen. McQueen did a brilliant movie not about Black people from the HOOD but about an Irish republican named Bobby Sands who leads the inmates of a Northern Irish prison in a hunger strike. This movie is so good that it's surpasses most of the movies I've seen and it's on par with film auteurs like Kubrick or David Lynch. But you know what? I would never get the funding because it is well established that Black audiences are of one variety and that is of the Tyler Perry type. Even Spike Lee can't get his movies made and his taste level is far more accessible than McQueen. The point is that thanks to movies like "Think like A Man"...African Americans are held in a BOX and that stereotype extends well past the movie houses. I'm just tired of people acting like Steve Harvey or Tyler Perry are the best things going...no they are the ONLY things going because Most African Americans have a taste level that has not changed since movies began in large part. You should read this book by Donald Bogle is a film historian and author of six books concerning African Americans in film and on television. He is an instructor at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts and at the University of Pennsylvania. In his first book "Toms, Coons, Mulattoes, Mammies and Bucks: An Interpretative History of Blacks in Films," Donald speak about how little film has changed when it comes to African Americans and this book was written before I was even born. Strange how we are still in the same place but it's not just in film but it's also in a much wider social context. When people stop accepting the terrible images that are placed before them (that conversely were first put out by racist whites and now it put out by clueless blacks)...then maybe there will be room for other options. Better options. More creative options.

First of all you being

First of all you being educated has nothing to do this. I'm an educated African American Woman as well, and so are 1000's of other African American women and men. That's not the issue here. I view this website on a regular basis and I have read numerous comments that are so negative, that they disgust me. I think its sad as African American people we seem to tear each other down, more then any other race. This is my opinion and I'm entitled to it, just like you are entitled to your opinion. Unlike some people, I don't view this website, just so I can make nasty comments about people, regardless if they are celebrities are not. You made a lot of assumptions in your response, and you know what happens when you assume. Just like you assume the film Act like a Lady Think Like a Man will not be worth watching, but funny you haven't seen it, so how do you know. As a far as Kevin Hart degrading women in the strip club, he was doing exactly what the exotic dancers wanted him to do "Pay Them". All of those women are there by choice, it's how they choose to make their living. All I'm saying is if you don't want to see the movie, then don't go see, but you don't have to tear down another persons hard work, just because you don't agree with it. I think you should change your name to Miss Judgemental, it suits you.

@ FuriouS Styles, it's people like you that always having something negative to say. Damn everything that we do is always put under a microscope. I WISH YOU WOULD SHUT-UP ALL THAT DAMN PREACHING. The movie is a COMEDY. Have a seat and calm your damn nerves!! I see why your name is Furious. Let these young Black Actors and Directors do their thing. Maybe you could put your energy in finding positive accolades about Black instead this derogatory view you seem to carry around.

@Teebaby-BX 11:55 am You

@Teebaby-BX 11:55 am You wish I would shut up because I don't agree with you? You are the very definition of a Philistine. This movie may be labeled a "comedy" but it's based off a book that is not funny at all. And people like you need to GROW UP and be more accepting of other view points! What Black people need to get is not everything is funny. There's often a bigger picture to the images we see, and what effect they can have on everyone's psyche. I think TYLER PERRY and STEVE HARVEY need to understand that not everyone who laughs is laughing with you; sometimes they are laughing AT you. The problem is as long as the socially-blind folk (LIKE YOU) keep supporting the stereotypical imagery Tyler Perry (and others like STEVE HARVEY) produces, he'll keep making those type films. Maybe that will explain why all these Black movies have the same TIRED actors playing the same TIRED roles. I don't agree that just because it's a BLACK face I then have to run out and support it. You may think this way and enjoy these movies I have much higher standards when it comes to the movies I watch and ENJOY.

I'm not sure if its advice

I'm not sure if its advice steve harvey is giving but its the truth!!! I listen to his radio show daily, and most of the women who call are really not smart women. He gives it to them straight. He only gives answers to me that are common sense, which alot of people lack.

@Anonymous 11:33 am Nothing

@Anonymous 11:33 am Nothing Steve Harvey says is the TRUTH. And any woman that runs around here thinking Steve HARVEY has said something prolific when it comes to relationships is DELUSIONAL. That man can't even handle the women in his own life so he sure is not telling me anything about the opposite sex. Steve was telling black women how to deal with men and how to get one for the long haul but he just didn't think his own messy mess was going to come out. This man is a JOKE and you could not pay me to see this TIRED MOVIE. NEXT!

I just can't with Essence.

Sometimes the source is

Sometimes the source is irrelevant if they're offering advice in the form of COMMON SENSE, which is what Steve Harvey has been doing with regards to his book. I wish more women would act like ladies AND use their common sense when dealing with men. Too many of us out here are in love with love, hopeless romantics, wrecklessly giving away our affections to every Tom, Dick and Harry without regard for a man's character, trustworthiness, integrity or track record. Stop making excuses not to listen to common sense just because country azz, philandering Steve Harvey (lol) is the one dishing it.

You could not pay me to see a

You could not pay me to see a movie based on a BOOK by a MAN named Steve Harvey. African American woman need to get it together. Why do black women want to read any book (or see the movie) by a MAN who has NO expertise in writing or relationships. Steve Harvey's own personal life is a joke when it comes to how he deals with women. What is most interesting about this depressing state of affairs is that we are now leaning on comedians like Steve Harvey to give "US" relationship advice. Getting relationship advice from a comedian is the perfect way to guarantee that your relationship will turn into a complete joke. This saddens me, for we can look right to the prison industrial complex, broken educational systems and economic disparities as root causes of the sickness that has come to kill our ability to love one another. Added to these systematic obstacles, we can throw on a layer of Hip-Hop music that teaches us that all women are “b*tches and hoes,” and that the size of a man’s wallet trumps his character in making him the right "baby daddy for you." Women need to get smarter and think more long term. Stop supporting people like Steve Harvey and Tyler Perry. In fact, the depth of the dysfunction that has come to plague the Black family structure is sick enough to make you wonder if we should declare an indefinite moratorium on all reproductive activities until some women learn to make better choices.

As, I've stated various time, I think their cognitive development was impaired as a child! I don't nesaccarily care for Steve Harvey but, I like the hustle in him. I think this a movie we can all enjoy, if you don't like it. There are other movies that you can go see. Why get on a blog and talk about it, there are not many movies we as, Afro-Americans create.

Fortunately, MY black family

Fortunately, MY black family structure is blessed; from my parents raising my sister and I to us now raising our own families, the right way! I think some should stop focusing on what's wrong and acknowledge that many of us (Women AND Men) do in fact get it right. Secondly, women are not the only ones who need to make better choices, the men should be included in that expectation as well. That's half the problem right there - low expectations for our black men, this has to be a team effort. #pointblankperiod
