Zoe Saldana is covering the debut issue of Cosmopolitan For Latinas, where she dishes on what it means to be a fierce Latina. See the pics inside....

Columbiana & Avatar actress Zoe Saldana, who was born to a Dominican father and Puerto Rican mother, is red hot on cover of the Latina spinoff of Cosmopolitan magazine. In the mag, 33-year-old Zoe celebrates her heritage and discusses being a fiery Latina.

Here are the highlights and subscriber cover (below):

On being a Latina: “People think of Latina women as being fiery and fierce, which is usually true. But I think the quality that so many Latinas possess is strength. I’m very proud to have Latin blood.”

On being a ballerina in her teens: “I had to quit ballet because it felt like a part of me was dying inside. It takes a lot of courage to face up to things you can’t do because we feed ourselves so much denial … In dance you use every party of your body except your voice. I wanted to start acting because I wanted to use my voice.”

The history of jazz is music-industry ludicrousness. The native Americans had all that music before Africa even knew what it was. They had circle dances, cakewalks, before Africans, that tempo, the rhythm, Blues meant to counter their Red, etc. Jazz is their word. It was white european music industry creating and controlling African citizens, the blacks, with a false African culture that they plagiarized from another culture, the Americans. Something they still practice today. Gansta rap is all owned by eastern-european guys in suits and beards. Caucasians treat everything like ancient Rome. Everyone must be pitted against everyone else in their global arena to the death. But unlike us, the Americans never listened to caucasians and always looked them in the eye, always took them on and won their independence. We still join caucasian communists who hate us for us to get anywhere when we could be opening up a barbershop on every street corner and doing our own thing.

She is another

She is another show-biz/politics african, you know. There is nothing Latina in her family history. That American history is entirely manufactured. Just like the roots of Jazz are supposed to come from africa, so says the United Nations and several of their connected african historians, yet Jazz predates any african resemblance in both Europe and, indeed, America, where all such music resembling Jazz had been played for centuries predating africa's introduction to the music. It was even played in Polynesia, Oceana and Asia before africa, but africans are bent on telling everyone they created Jazz and all musical forms, no different than how they tell everyone they created Rhapsody and steel drums and Island music and Life, itself. Sadly, such a position has its real roots in centuries of communism under its many names, as africa has had, and they are to blame for their own misery and downfall.

Everyone knows that she is "black" except for her! She has a hard time identifying that she is black, but ironically, she played in black movies as a BLACK woman - not a Latina (Drumline (with black parents - not Latin parents), Guess Who (again, with black parents), and Death at a Funeral (black parents). If it is not her choice to identify as a black woman, then she should return all of the awards that she has received, and stop accepting "black" roles (as should other mulatto actresses).

The fact is, the self-hating comments directed against Zoe by other Latinos and part and parcel of the white is always better mentally that so many Black latinos embraced from childhood. They never criticize the appearance of white Latinos with Spanish features but as soon as a Black Latina with non-Spanish feautures come on board they get salty about it.

I am not trying to take anything away from latino actresses but my response was to the ones that were hating on Zoe S. and hating the fact that hollywood chose her to be the top Black/Latina out there right now. They could have put the whiter looking latino's in all her roles but guess what Zoe is the chosen one at this time. Dear heart I am a fan of good actors and actresses of any race period. So Blacks and Latino's have still a long ways to go. Penelope C. can act her butt off. Eva Mendes has done quite well for herself as well. Paz Vaga, Alice Braga, Rosario D are all good actresses still making strides. No one is taking anything away from Latino's but the truth is right in everyone's face like or not Blacks or Hispanics Zoe S. has rose up over a lot of actresses full black white and so called white hispanics. The fact that she never turned down movies like Thandie Newton did pushed her over the top. Thandie N one of my fav black actresses should be a house hold name like Halle Berry but made some wrong decisions like turnind down Charlie's Angels's and the third mission impossible. She was now been reduced to Tyler Perry Movies. We don't have many black actresses making rain but we do have some good ones who are coming up like Kerri Washington and Paula Patton, Nicole Beharie Sanaa L. like i said they are making strides like the latino actresses that I mentioned above. Like it or not Zoe is right now above them all! To the sista's who are also hating stop it. Stop hating on Paula because she is light and stop hating on Zoe because she is dark w/ straight hair w/ spanish speaking parents. Enough is Enough whether you are a self-hating Latino or a self-hating black. We all have made strides but like Cassie song says: Got a long ways to go.

Funny thing, Most Mexucans have a small percentge of African blood in them, and 85-90% of them can trace their roots right back to the African slaves that were brought to Mexico. I believe that Selena lineage has African blood not because of her curves, but because her hair was naturally kinky, and only in photos was she light, but in person and in live interviews, she had a near dark complexion.

So much hate, its just sad. Why not be happy that she can appeal and be a role model not only to young AA girls but also Latinas. Many Latin American countries are color struck. When little Latin girls see her on the cover they think "hey that could be me one day”. People complain how Beyonce and Halle were the only two AA women to grace the cover as “most beautiful” but if you ever look at this magazine on their cover, all the women look damn near white. Light latina is beautiful, dark latina is not-that is the message they convey to these girls that buy the magazine. This actually breaking down doors for them!!
