Miss Universe Leila Lopes COVERS June 2012 Maxim Portugal + Vanessa A. Williams COVERS "DENIM" Mag's Summer Issue, Talks "Soul Food" REUNION!

 Miss Universe Leila Lopes dons a few sexy swimsuits for the June 2012 issue of Maxim Portugal.  See the pics inside and see Vanessa A. Williams dish about a "Soul Food" reunion in Denim Magazine.

The gorgeous winner of the 2012 Miss Universe Pageant, Leila Lopes, shows off her sexy side in the June issue of Maxim Portugal.

The stunning Angola native recently completed a two-day visit to Ghana which ended with an honorary cocktail reception at the Labadi Beach Hotel.

And in other cover gal news:

Former "Soul Food" actress Vanessa A. Williams covers The Summer Issue of Denim Magazine.

In the issue, she reveals that there will indeed be a "Soul Food" reunion--amongst the cast themselves--but the series has not been in the process of returning to TV.  Also she talked about her most recent project.

DENIM: TV One has began showing the Soul Food television series again! Is there a chance for a reunion? Would you do it again?
VM: That was so cute! We had been hearing rumors about Soul Food returning. The fans were talking about it and they were under the impression that there was going to be a reunion- a new launch. What was true was that TV One was going to put Soul Food back on- not new episodes. When the old episodes started airing again, we all [cast] decided to get together for a mini reunion. Working Soul Food was like the best times of our lives! I agree- we need to bring it back! Let’s #OccupySoulFood! It would be great to see what’s happening now with Maxine and the other Joseph sisters- their families and what they would be doing now. Soul Food brought us together as a family and we were all about perfecting ourselves- committed to laughter and love. Soul Food will live forever!

DENIM: By-the-way, are you working on any new projects?
VM: My sister Terri J. Vaughn talked to me about Sugar Mommas. I was on board and her company hired me to do the show on GMC. Rumor has it, that Sugar Mommas may be returning for a mini series. It’s a great show and we had a lot of fun with it. Oh and I’m actually on set for a new original film, Raising Izzie, directed by Roger M. Bobb along with my Soul Food hubby Rockmond Dunbar. The film is scheduled to air July 21! So excited!

It is impossible to fall out of love. Love is such a powerful emotion, that once it envelops you it does not depart. True love is eternal. If you think that you were once in love, but fell out of it, then it wasn't love you were in. There are no 'exit' signs in love, there is only an 'on' ramp. Only the administrative level

Only the administrative level is done in both Spanish and French and the regional languages are Fang, Bube, Annobonese. Equatoguinean Spanish is the variety of Spanish spoken in Equatoguinean Guinea. This is the only Spanish variety that is official in sub-saharan Africa. It resembles the more standard peninsular Spanish than America Spanish. At any rate, the country has multiple languages.

Angola was not the last

Angola was not the last african country to gain their independence, south africa was in 1994. Leila Lopes is african. She's not mixed. Like many Southern African woman she has different features & skin tone to other other people in different parts of Africa. You also have to remember that the image of Africans in America is the proverbial stereotype. The frail african, dying of poverty. Truth is what you see is what the western media wants you to see. Africa is developing continent, with emerging economies, some african countries are competing with some european markets. African women aren't what you see on these movies. We are progressive. And the women are sophisticated, educated and well travelled. I wish more African Americans could be proud of that. And visit Africa ... The continent

She is Angolan and the Angolans were enslaved and colonized by the Portuguese for over 400 years. Angola was the last country in Africa to gain its independence from their former European slavemasters when they won it through a long bloody war in 1975. There are six Portuguese speaking African nations: ANGOLA..CAPE VERDE...GUINEA-BISSAU...EQUATORIAL GUINEA...MOZAMBIQUE...SAO TOME & PRINCIPE. There are several African countries where French or English are the official languages. It is the same throughout the Caribbean islands where English and French are spoken. The black people have either French or English names.

For those wondering why some

For those wondering why some Africans have non typical African names because they are expecting long letters, hard to pronounce names, that's not always the case. Just like how some filipinos have spanish last names or some chinese don't have the typical character name that you expect. Some Indians who don't have typical indian names. Does that make them less Asian? No The same applies to us. What people don't know is, there are native African languages that sounds similar to Arabic or Spanish. Languages are derived from each other. The same words in the same language but mean something completely different. Africans are obsessed with biblical names, it's more of a religion thing than white blood. I remember when an American was surprised an African's last name is Peters. if she only knew it was taken from the Bible not bcos of a direct white man. Americans are terrible with their geography and nationality knowledge, so I encourage to do your research first instead of making ignorant statements.
Anon's picture

As an African I will say you

As an African I will say you are right with most of what you said, but we are not obssesed with Biblical names. There are more African with African and Arabic names then there are African's with Biblical names.
ReadingRainbow's picture

I'm referring to some African

I'm referring to some African countries and cultures more influenced by christianity. Many with Arabic names are influenced by Islam. The igbo people in Nigeria are mostly catholics, and many of them have Igbo names or christian names. I met a Nigerian, and her last name was Peters. So, I asked her where did the name come from and she said her dad said his family were strong christians and they just added "S"to Peter in the Bible. But, I know African last name varies.

Please allow me to say

Please allow me to say this... There are many Blacks in the United States (i.e., African-Americans) who seem to be a little confused when it comes to the topic of race, ethnicity, and even nationality. This is to be expected, since hundreds of years ago, the idea of being "Black" in America generally meant you had darker skin tones than that of your white counterparts, coarse ("thick") hair, 'full' eyes, and more prominent lips or noses, all complimented by 'shapely' (curvy) figures. For generations, Blacks in the United States were taught - by whites - to believe that being 'black' meant an individual possessed one or more of these physical characteristics, and that being 'white' was the exact polar opposite. Fast-forward a few centuries, bypassing the abolition of slavery and welcoming a biracial President into power; Still, it is apparent that many of these traditional beliefs live on to this very day. A few things, however, must be acknowledged on both the African and African-American spectra: Foremost, bear in mind that Africa is not a solitary country; Rather, it is a continent. The term 'African', therefore, applies to NATIONALITY. In other words, the country of your birth (i.e., the 'nation', or in this instance, 'nation-state' in which you were born and to which you belong) is Africa. This term applies to ANY person, regardless of hair type, skin color and any other physical characteristics resembling that of any specific 'ethnic' group) BORN in ANY country on the continent of Africa, regardless of by whom said country was colonized - be it the British, the Portuguese or the French. Conversely, an African-American is generally considered to be any BLACK (or biracial) person born in the United States of America...OR... born to BLACK or biracial parents who are natural-born or otherwise naturalized U.S. citizens (in cases where the child is born "overseas"). Note the difference in the way in which both groups are categorized and how geographic location plays a significant factor. Once we can come to an understanding of that which makes both Africans and African-Americans "different" - from a NON-CULTURAL standpoint, for argument sake - we will learn to appreciate that which also unites us.

@Letsgetit You are an

@Letsgetit You are an example of many Black Americans, who have major identity crisis. This is the reason you guys just can't get a grip of yourselves. In a country like America, with so much opportunities you guys are at the bottom, the lowest in everything. There are major issues to deal with and discussing white blood is the least. One sentence, you bash black women for having self hate, but you have the BIGGEST self hate ever. You are another statistics of a black guy raised by his single mom, has no idea of what it is to be a man, just messed up mentally. Don't you already have a baby too? You have a long way to go, go focus on figuring your life out. You seem to be obsessed with Africans having white blood. Everybody have been mixed up, even the whites you idolized, many of them also have African blood. All the white men see is "nigger", so why are you so obsessed with them. Many of us Africans, are very sure of who we are. The continent was colonized but we don't go around saying, you know I got portuguese or spanish the way you guys go around claiming indian to appear less black. It's stupid, if you are African, grew up there, your parents came from there, you are African. For us biracial, multiracial, if you have black in the mix, you are automatically black. If you want to see a portugese woman, go to Portugal or Brazil, it's a lot of them there. For now, Leila Lopes is from Angola, a proud beautiful African woman. Case closed.

IF YOU READ WHAT I SAID CORRECTLY YOU WOULDVE SEEN WHAT I WAS REALLY SAYING WAS THAT AFRICA IS JUST AS MIXED AND COLONIZED AS THEY SAY WE ARE!!!!!!!! THAT'S ALL I WAS SAYING!!!!!!! I SEE MYSELF AS A AFRICAN AT THE END OF THE DAY OK..... I SEE ME AND YOU AS THE SAME PEOPLE, PROBLEM IS AFRICANS LIKE YOUUUUUUUUUU, DON'T SEE IT THAT WAYYYYY. @ letgetit I hate to sound

@ letgetit I hate to sound hateful towards Black Americans because at the end of the day, I have nothing against you guys and see you guys as my brothers and sisters. Geez, you got me to that point. We Black people in general, Africans, caribbeans, Black Americans have major important issues to focus on, and hate when we focus on stupid irrelevant things. It's unfortunate to see what is going on in Africa, and what our ancestors did. But, your comments on this blog irritate the crap out of me, if you are not pointing fingers at black American women for the problems in your community, you are talking about Africans with white blood or some other ignorant stuff. What is your goal? I can't ignore certain things. There's this beautiful woman who won Miss Universe, and all fools on here can say is, she mixed, got some white blood in her. Who freaking cares what Eritreans, Angolans, or Nigerians have in their blood, the fact of the matter is, we are proud Africans. Whether you are chocolate or vanilla or colored eyes from Africa, you are African, and doesn't have to connected to white people all the time. These are things that divide us more, because we are busy focusing on irrelevant stuff, and not growing the way we should. You just sound lost and bitter. I must hate your mom or your aunts to have such resentment against black women. I hope you grow up and realize pointing fingers, being ignorant won't get you anywhere in life.

Show me where i said she was

Show me where i said she was mixed??? See you reading too much into it.. shit i said the sista WAS AFRICAN!!ok. Im just explaining to people what happen.And you the only sista THAT SEEN something different, you the only one that seen it as me praising white blood FUCK WHITE BLOOD.
LetsGetIt's picture

@LetsGetit I read a lot of

@LetsGetit I read a lot of your comments on this blog, so I'm also referring to those ones. You once said Ethiopians have white/Arab blood in them. Ethiopia is the only country in Africa that wasn't colonized. So, their looks has nothing to do with Whites. You come off as black and proud but you are also not well informed. I mean nobody is talking about Hayek been an Arabic last name, everybody sees Salma Hayek as a latina. This person is not black because she doesn't look black. You called Obama's advisor, Valerie Jarett a white woman. As far as I'm concerned, all the White people call her an African American woman. The reason I said, you sound bitter is the constant bashing of black women and blaming them for everything. Black men don't want them, black men like lighter skin because of black women's self hate. Latina women support their men better, black women are jealous. Never hold yourself and other black men out there responsible for their actions. Maybe, you are joking around or get a kick out of it but the constant bashing is getting old. I went to high school with Black Americans, for some reason they were so stuck on me not looking African or my name not sounding African, it must be that your grandaddy was white. Since I don't have a click in front of my name or my last name is not hard to pronounce, I'm less African. Like seriously, please don't limit us Africans or the continent, it's beyond kunta kinte, starvation, AIDS, and what you see on TV. Most Black Americans have their slavemaster names as their last names, some Africans have certain last names due to colonization. But who cares, it's not worth the emphasis. West African countries colonized by british still mostly have their cultural names, and some who have English last names changed it to make their last name easy to pronounce for everybody especially ones who migrated to Europe years ago.

*REPOST @Heather said it

*REPOST @Heather said it best. Thank-You Are you fu&**g dumb?? 45 years old? Angolans still speak Portuguese, there is a very strong Portuguese presence and culture in the country, Independence was less than 50 years ago why would you think names would be changed through a couple new generations? Do African Americans STILL not have European names? YES and slavery was abolished many decades ago, so why are you treating colonial-impacted Africans any different? Granted there are Africans with African names, but Angolans adopted names, language, culture with Portugal's colony AND history in the region... Portugal was the first European nation in Africa, their history in Angola and Mozambique go WAYYY back. I swear, people like you need to go to SCHOOL. So sad.

OMG people, you guys are so

OMG people, you guys are so dumb! listen she is from ANGOLA, not latin america, she is not mexican or spanish of any kind. stop. She is african from a city called BENGUELA, Angola was a portuguese colony, most of people in Angola have portuguese or spanish last names, not all of them but some of them, see i am dark skin and have long natural afro hair and my name is Tania Mariano and i am from Angola, i am so proud of Leila and where we came from we are not from the same tribe or city but we are both from south, and there is no place like home, instead of you americans or haters fighting in this blog for no reason, take time to travel go see the world, sometimes not everything you see or read on the internet is accurate, take time go to africa, there is so much staff for people to learn about, in africa there is whites, blacks, different tribes and culture, different languages and people, africa is a continent not a country, people have different believes and religion, go we africans are very friendly and we welcome everybody, come to learn and see the way we live, in angola every year we have people from portugal and brazil, and cape verde come to make angola their home country, we have this connection because of the language, and the last 6 years we have being receiving lots of americans as well.
