In other music news......

Alicia Keys is featured on the cover of the July/August issue of FAST COMPANY. In the magazine, she dishes on her charity work and reveals what she thinks is the most important virtue of an "Extraordinary Woman."  [Stop that snickering.]  She also talked about her own Keep a Child Alive foundation.

“I started meeting these kids who had been so isolated and alone, and not much younger than me.  It was so deep to me. [AIDS activist] Leigh [Blake] had a very clear vision, that if we could get these kids the right anti-retroviral medication, we could allow them to lead a full life. I dedicated myself to that vision right then.”

Watch Alicia reveal why she feels charity work is a great platform above.

I suppose

I suppose extraordinary=sleeping with married men!!! Cmon Alicia. You're not serious. Just make music and stop lying to us and yourself. You would get more respect that way. You got pregnant with Egypt by a married man!!

I don't care what anyone thinks/says, if Alicia continues to put out good music and do charity work, I will continue to be a fan. Her personal life is her business.

Do all of you who have kids

Do all of you who have kids out of wedlock, look at your kids every day and tell them that they are a mistake and because of that you or them will never amount to anything and no matter what they do in life they will always be a mistake and a bastard? Just wondering?

Let me see!! Alicia is out

Let me see!! Alicia is out here making a difference and saving lives, and you ignorant b*tches are sitting on a black blog ran by a hating a** black woman talking about you have no respect for her? ok yeah, lets see your contribution to society. Some of you are probably living off of society. Get your life!!
Anonymous's picture

Natasha you are one ignorant

Natasha you are one ignorant B*TCH with your shade, your jealousy continues to show, you are not1/3 the woman that Alicia is, and you insight your rabid dog followers to act accordingly. You ignorant black folks on these black blogs, continue to try and bring Alicia down, but you have failed miserably because the industry and the world at large recognizes her for the sweet, caring, philanthropist and talent that she is. This battle was lost years ago people, let it go no one is falling for the homewrecker sh*t except you ignorant bloggers and black folks with no life. I wonder if you hold on to your own and your family transgressions like this? if so you must live miserable lives because we all f*ck up every single day. I hate black women I swear I do they are the most judgemental people but yet they have the highest rate of out of wedlock births, the highest rate of contracting AIDS, the highest rate of having more than one baby daddy, but yet you judge other people, on sh*t that you do not know. Everyone chose to overlook exactly what Alicia was talking about and the importance of what she is doing, Alicia will continue to be blessed because she is a blessing to others. What the f*ck have you done for anyone lately. When is the last time that you stopped and helped someone? and it's not about money, you don't have to have a dime to contribute your time and effort. When is the last time you stopped to help the homeless or someone in need, even in your own family? Alicia does not need your respect, she has the respect of millions. You people make me sick.

It's her sense of entitlement

It's her sense of entitlement to the situation. It's her lack of acknowledgement which makes it difficult to accept and forgive the method in which she started her family. Black people have more moral passion than any other race. When we come together and disagree about something, its not hate, its an engangering to our moral beliefs. We're also the most understanding, faithful, and accepting race of all. AK interfered with a marriage. She wasn't the only participant. Even if she doesn't publicly apologize and ask forgiveness, hope she did so with God.

Black people have more moral

Black people have more moral passion than any other race? Really? You make a lot of assumptions and generalizations in this comment. And I think they're more subjective than factual.

What's subjective is you not

What's subjective is you not thinking highly of your own race.

Well damn. Is Alicia paying your bills? You are riding hard for someone who doesn't even know you exist and probably wouldn't give you a pot to piss in if you needed it. SMH at crazy ass stans.

Wrong B*tch!! shows how much

Wrong B*tch!! shows how much you know about Alicia Keys. I've met her on three occassions and she is a sweet heart, she walks in and nothing but genuine. I am not anyones stan because I have a life, a career a future and love in my life and I am living my dreams. Hence I don't need to hate on anyone. Only miserable people find it necessary to do that. Sorry but you are soooooooooo far off that you have fallen off the cliff. You want to be nasty and talk sh*t about celebs but when you get it back you have the nerve to be offended? what a joke.

That was too damn passionate

That was too damn passionate you f--k--g wacko. Nobody's trying to bring alicia down, those heavy ass calves of hers are doing that all on their own. Yall always saying black people is the only ones to do this and black people is the only ones to do that. Sit your statistic reading ass down somewhere.

I love, love, love Melanie!!!

I love, love, love Melanie!!! She's gorgeous, classy and has an amazing voice, and an unbelievable stage presence so I can't wait to see her performance at the awards. As for Ms. Keys, she is the last woman on earth to talk virtues but the charity work she has done in Africa is commendable, but doesn't change the fact she was sleeping with a married man.
tori's picture

I get that the people in

I get that the people in Africa are struggling severely and they need help, but what I don't get is why people flock there first as if the kids here lives aren't f--k-d up as well. It's like having a f--k-d up marriage and then you go and try to give advice to someody else about their marriage.
Puzzled's picture

It's all about the money.

It's all about the money. Taxes, laundering, and other shit they can get away with in Africa that they can't here. Charity is only secondary.

Keep a Child Alive provides

Keep a Child Alive provides support to families affected by HIV/AIDS in five key locations: India, South Africa, Uganda, Rwanda, and Kenya. In Rwanda, where 170,000 people are living with HIV, the KCA-funded Centreville Clinic treats more than 2,300 patients.

The magazine talked to Alicia

The magazine talked to Alicia Keys about her work in South Africa with the Keep a Child Alive organization and how a chance offer from AIDS activist Leigh Blake to tour the country and witness its AIDS epidemic firsthand back in 2002, led Alicia to become one of the most prominent celebrity AIDS activists. “I started meeting these kids who had been so isolated and alone, and not much younger than me,” said Alicia who is now 31 but was only 21 when she began her work. “It was so deep to me. Leigh had a very clear vision, that if we could get these kids the right antiretroviral medication, we could allow them to lead a full life. I dedicated myself to that vision right then.” The two ended up founding Keep a Child Alive later as an organization dedicated to raising funds for medication and HIV-related programs. “When I think of these crazy stories of women in certain countries who are forbidden birth control or protection of any sort,” she said, sighing, “these married women concerned that their husbands have the virus . . . it works out in the worst way for them.”

For its July/August issue,

For its July/August issue, business magazine Fast Company has listed 60 women who are doing extraordinary things in their careers. Oprah, Laila Ali, Liya Kebede and Alicia Keys (who landed on the issue's cover) are among some of the Black women who've made the cut. Inside, Keys talks about how a tour through AIDS-stricken South African villages in 2002 led to her activism and creation of the Keep a Child Alive foundation. “I started meeting these kids who had been so isolated and alone, and not much younger than me,” said Alicia, who is now 31 but was only 21 when she began her work. “It was so deep to me. [AIDS activist] Leigh [Blake] had a very clear vision, that if we could get these kids the right anti-retroviral medication, we could allow them to lead a full life. I dedicated myself to that vision right then.” Boxing champ Ali has helped fund the dreams of 2012 Olympic hopefuls though her Women's Sports Foundation, while Liya Kebede's eponymous foundation is dedicated to improving the lives of women and children around the world. And thanks to Oprah's Leadership Academy for Girls, 72 young women will be starting college in the fall.
