Beyoncé VISITS United Nations, PREPS "I Was Here" Shoot

As she preps to shoot the Humanitarian Day version of her "I Was Here" video, Beyonce paid a visit to the United Nations General Assembly Hall in New York yesterday. Deets inside....

Singer Beyonce chatted it up with officials like Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon yesterday when she visited the UN. The singer is working with the UN to celebrate World Humanitarian Day.

Also, she will film video for her Diane Warren-penned ballad “I Was Here” in front of a live audience at the UN General Assembly Hall. The video will be released globally on World Humanitarian Day, August 19.

It's nice to see some social awareness in videos.

Meanwhile, Beyonce will be the honoree at a fancy dinner tonight at the United Nations HQ in NYC. She will be putting on a special performance for invited guests. Nice!

Wow this is that $680 jacket that they showed three other celebs wearing in bluish-green with black trim. Beyonce outsmarted them all and got hers in white! Those earrings look like they were photoshopped onto the side of her head. Not a good look.

I think this whole UN thing

I think this whole UN thing is in response to Harry Belafonte's criticism of Bey and Jay's lack of social awareness. First of all, Bey in snot the first singer to help the UN. Estelle, Geri Halliwell, Paul McCartney, Bono, Elton John, and Annie Lennox have contributed to UN efforts too. The only difference is that they didn't make a big public deal about it and they certainly didn't shoot a music video. Secondly, Harry Belafonte is right. Minority artists these days are neglecting their social responsibility. Look at what James Brown did for the Civil Rights Movement, for example. Meanwhile Gwyneth Paltrow is calling us n***s and Jay and Bey don't say a WORD. And social awareness means more than writing a CHECK! most celebrities only do that for tax purposes and the press that comes with it. Social awareness is using your craft to bring light to issues that are hurting your community. Social awareness is getting OUT in the community lending a hand. I am not going to praise Bey for throwing on some big-ass earrings and Joker lipstick to get a photo-op at the UN.

I'm formerly GTFOH...but somebody already has that name Bey's involvement in this campaign is not in response to anything anyone said. This is not something that happened over night. For those of you who dont know what Bey does in terms of charity work. Google it. She has a history of doing great work but not making it public. As for this...its a freaking campaign and she's the Ambassador, her job is to raise awareness and promote the campaign, taping a music video is her way of doing so. Activists are activists and entertainers are entertainers. They are not one in the same. She's not an activist. If you look at it with an open mind (instead of a finger pointing idiot) you will see a message in what she does and how she carries herself and her music. Harry did not do enough research before he made those comments. BTW...how much have you done in your own community. Your argument is based on disdain for Bey and resentment of her fame and fortune. Bey and Jay will never do enough to for some people. Its so easy to point the finger at someone. I’m always disappointed in a leader like Harry when he speaks without being knowledgeable.

Is there anything Mrs. Beyoncé Knowles-Carter CAN'T do?? She needs her own statue or something. I think she is the EPITOME of a stylish-classy chick, she's almost royal but still common, I love her!! I bet she was Cleopatra or The Queen of Sheba in her previous life. I don't know too many other female artist that are CLASSY enough to work with the U.N., they rather drink all day and smoke all night!

Well there is a difference between PERFORMING on stage or in a video and shaking your a$$ in the club. She's a classy chick, she hasn't been linked to half of hollywood and I think she has done fairly well for herself being a high school drop out and all. I don't care what no one says, her music will still be playing 100 yrs from now, not many R&B chicks can say that.
