Beyonce's Camp Runs Down Her CHARITABLE Resume To Dispute Harry Belafonte's CRITICISMS

Beyonce's camp has responded to iconic actor/singer Harry Belafonte's recent criticism of her and Jay-Z's involvement in the community. In his opinion, the powerful duo don't do enough. Find out what Beyonce's camp responded with inside.....

Now that iconic crooner Harry Belafonte has blasted Jay-Z and Beyonce for not doing enough for minorities, Bey's camp is fighting back.

Earlier, Harry spoke out about charitable images of minorites in Hollywood saying to the Hollywood Reporter last week:

Not at all. They have not told the history of our people, nothing of who we are. We are still looking. We are not determinated. We are not driven by some technology that says you can kill Afghans, the Iraqis or the Spanish. It is all -- excuse my French -- shit. It is sad. And I think one of the great abuses of this modern time is that we should have had such high-profile artists, powerful celebrities. But they have turned their back on social responsibility. That goes for Jay-Z and Beyonce, for example. Give me Bruce Springsteen, and now you’re talking. I really think he is black.

Now Bey's camp is having their say. Her rep shot back in an email to media with what she called “an abbreviated list of the unselfish work Beyoncé has done and continues to do.”

The list ran down Bey's charitable works including her "I Was Here" video she shot for World Humanitarian Day this past week, which paid homage to the work done by humanitarian workers, co-founding The Survivor Foundation “a multi-purpose community outreach facility in downtown Houston”, donating $100K in 2008 to the Gulf Coast Ike Relief Fund to aid Texas victims of Hurricane Ike and performing in “MTV’s Hope For Haiti Now!

Maybe this still doesn't impress Mr. Belafonte. But folks should always remember that not everyone puts their charitable acts on full display. Some celebs do, some celebs don't. The important thing is that everyone gives back in some way.

Not everyone is called to activism. Activism is a heavy committment. Those who do not have the time to get on the front lines and be directly involved give to those who do. Jay and Bey do plenty and there is little or no PR surrounding their efforts. This world needs strong leaders and activists to be heavily involved, such people are divinly chosen to do this i believe. Bey and Jay were gifted with musical/entertainment abilities. Not every celebrity is going to be an activist. Do a search of what contributions Bey and Jay have made, then come back and comment.

I'm going to start by saying that this is MY opinion. So please BeyJay stans, do NOT come for me. I think what Harry Belafonte was speaking about goes beyond simply writing a check for charitable causes. MANY celebrities do that, and they usually do it for the good press, the tax write-off, or both. No one is disputing that Bey and Jay write checks so let's put that to bed. What Harry was referring to goes beyond money. It's about using your resources (fame, money, platform, etc) for more social awareness about the problems and ills in your community. In other words, writing songs that high-light unemployment rates in our community, black-on-black crime, stop-and-frisk, social injustice, etc. You have the world's ear so you have a unique opportunity to help you race make strides. Yes, Jay wrote a $1 million check after Hurricane Katrina. Brad Pitt, on the other hand, used his celebrity and money to start a foundation (Make It Right NOLA) and personally oversaw an architectural design competition to design homes that would withstand future flooding. THAT is what Harry is talking about...using your image to HELP your people, not just to fatten your wallet. We need less "Niggas in Paris" and more "A Change Is Gonna Come." Like they say, to whom much is given, much is required.

i get what your saying...but does it really matter, the man wrote a $1 million check, he didn't have to do that, let's just be honest no one is obligated to help the next person, but we should because it's the right thing to do, so for him to do that it must have meant something to him, i wish ppl would stop looking at what ppl could do more, but look and say well at least he did this or at least he donated that, just because they dont boast about helping others, doesn't mean they aren't doing so, and its sad because that goes to show that whatever you do ppl are always going to find something wrong, now if she boasted about starting/founded an organization...which she did, ppl who have something to say about that, it's a damn if i do, and a damn if i don't, she's always going to get critized, and im proud of her for staying strong, because if it was ME, i wouldn't contribute to a damn thing...why? becuase when i do, i get critized for it, and when i dont i get critized for it, so i whether get critized for the shit that i don't do and let it be the truth other that get critized for the shit that i do, and ppl still require and expect more from me, all im saying is everyone has their own way of giving back, and just because they don't give like you, doesn't make them a bad or selfish person, because at the end of the day they GAVE/shared what God blessed them with, and to me that makes her a beautiful and loving person

Mr. Belafonte is a Legend but he had no idea what he was talking about in this instance. He needs to know of what he speaks before speaking, as we all should. And he needs to be careful who he calls a sellout, because many people thought him divorcing his Black first wife and ignoring his Black children to marry a white dancer at the peak of his career was selling out in the day,so he needs to be careful of being seen as a hypocrite,cause Beyonce and Jay Z are a Black couple who have huge success TOGETHER and support each other,which is not what Mr. Belafonte did in his heyday. I had some relatives who were patients and friends of his first wife second husband a famous Dr. Mustique of Washington DC. Dr. Mustique raised those two daughters Marguerite had with Harry and paid for all their expenses and education throughout his married life. Harry did not do SHIT for his children. He made it clear he had left them BEHIND.....Shari would cry whenever someone mentioned her dad while growing up,because she saw him parading them other kids and those three white wives and acted like he never gave a damn about his first family.....real talk! Mrs Belafonte Mustique was a Psychologist with advanced degrees that was at Hampton Institute when she married Harry in 1944....he was in Norfolk Va at a Navy base I believe. She was very educated and gracious and was a good wife to Dr. Mustique who was a tremendous Black doctor in DC! She usually declined to say much about Harry in public,but she DID let it slip how he aint do a damn thing,and would say how Dr. Mustique raised her kids and was their SALVATION....!! And frankly, I have tried not to READ Harry all the way down....but at the same time he was chasing Eartha and Dot Dandridge and telling them they were not good enough to marry HIM now that he was famous but a white woman was going to be it, he was running around bothering Mrs King about doing "things" for the money he bragged about giving the MLK family when MLK was alive and after his death....up hassling a grieving widow for her body .... now, that is what is ALLEGED.....but I deal in LIPTON....!! Harry needs to have several several seats coming for a happily married Black power couple who do contribute...!! He don't want the Library to REALLY open up....cause his behavior was more scandalous than I have already said, I am holding back!! People are always calling out others for their charitable works, but where are your contributions. It's easy for you to dismiss doing anything because you don't earn a million dollars, but have you ever stopped to think these individuals have just as many responsibilities as the rest of us on their income. Beyonce and Jay-Z have no need to broadcast charity. If you feel a need to let the world know you are doing good, you aren't really doing it for the cause, but for the benefit of image. I don't know what Beyonce gives back. I don't know what Rihanna gives back. That's not for me to digest. Angelina Jolie is only considered charitable because she goes out and adopts african and asian babies. Give me a financial break down of most celebrities or wealthy people ,and we will still say they don't do enough. Being successful does not make you the care taker of America. I love me some Beyonce and Jay z but what Harry B stated is the absolute truth. This is not the first time the power couple has been called out for their lack of charitable donations. This is not to say that they do nothing BUT they certainly can do more. Last year Jay contributed a mere 6k out his own pockets to his charity. The rest of the funds came from benefit concerts that he had, meaning his fans were the real contributors. J and B should undoubtedly be admired for many things but philanthropy is not one of their strong points!

I totally agree with you. Yes, I do like Beyonce music and I love the fact that she just recently displayed a part of our cultural style with the braids, but like you I have to agree with Mr. Belafonta BLACK CELEBS are scared to speak out for their people. We love Kanye West when he stated what he said about Bush, He was real and not trained then. For some reason our entertainers are the only one who don;t speak up or stand up for us. Hispanics and others love and display the love for their people and force people to adapt to their language and style. IMO, she didn't have to

IMO, she didn't have to publish a statement. We should let our works speak for themselves. She's said once before that she does a lot of charitable deeds that she doesn't mention because she don't want people to think she's "showing off"... she should have just kept quiet and not said anything. Everybody already knows she's a giver.

This what Mr. Belafontes is talking about with these two dummies, all they care about is lavish lifestyles while the regular black folks suffer and they don't talk much about that. White folks help their own .
