DO GOODER: Beyonce Surpasses 1 Billion Mark Goal For "Humanitarian Messages"

Beyonce Knowles' mission to garner 1 billion messages consisting of the nice acts people have pledged to do for others is complete. And she indeed made history with over a billion people sending their messages of "niceness" by the World Humanitarian Day deadline.

Beyonce released her "I Was Here" video in honor of World Humanitarian Day this past weekend, and additionally asked people around the world to pledge (via posting a message on her World Humanitarian Day website) the small nice act they will do for someone else.

In turn, over 1 billion people answered the call to do "good" for others. And an exact 1,029,763,492 BILLION messages were sent. Sweet!

Andrew Essex, chief executive of the World Humanitarian company, told Yahoo News on Sunday, "This could arguably be the largest mobilisation of good intention in web history, an amazing coming together of celebrity, brands and NGOs.Think of it as 'We Are The World' for the social media generation".

The purpose of the campaign

The purpose of the campaign was to spread awareness of World Humanitarian Day and the Organization that started it. Bey's involvement was to do jus that. Expand the message...thus the campaign succeeded. 1 Billion people are now aware that Aug 19 is WHD and have pledged to acknowledge the day. Some of you people need to stop being so negative and immature. Its not about money its about awareness....and if you can see how that makes a difference....i cant help you.

Really? The day before Humanitarian Day, the numbers were nowhere near 1 billion. But even with that, anybody can type what they're GOING or WANTING to do. Talk is cheap. I believe that this World Humanitarian Day stuff is more smoke and mirrors than of substance, and I can guarantee, Beyonce didn't do this without getting paid. From my understanding, the proceeds of her song went to the organization for that day only. Usually a song will be written specifically for a cause and donate all of the proceeds, but she used her own song. Greedy B ain't doing nothing for free.

I don't get it...so people are tweeting about what kind acts they're doing or are going to do? How will they determine if people are actually doing it? I'm just not understanding how this will make a difference in our communities. Did they receive 1 billion videos showing people doing kind things? We already knew she was wildly popular, but how does that popularity equate to social activism. She's promoting kindness and that's a great thing, but is it a one day thing, is she starting a movement where the results will be evident. I'm just trying to understand what this means.
