Brooklyn stand up!  The 2013 MTV VMAs will be held in BK at the Barclays Center.  And it's back in the city where the VMAs started.  Find out more inside...

It's just been announced that the live 2013 MTV VMAs will take place on Sunday, August 25, at the home of the Brooklyn Nets.  The network made the announcement earlier after its iconic Moonman hopped a flight out of LA and announced his arrival on Instagram saying "And WE'RE HERE! The 2013 @MTV VMAs will be LIVE at @BarclaysCenter on 8/25! #RoadToTheVMAs #HelloBrooklyn"

Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz talked about the announcement and the honor saying to MTV News:

"From hip-hop to hipsters, Jay- Z to MGMT, Brooklyn musicians have a long history of dominating the 'spotlight' on MTV. Brooklyn is a cultural Mecca — the hippest, coolest place for young people across the country, and has played a crucial role in the careers of some of 2013's biggest bands, like Fun. and the Lumineers.

"Now, it is only fitting that the first time Brooklyn will ever host a major awards show, we are welcoming the most exciting and talked about spectacle in the music industry ... I'm so thrilled that I'll probably get 'no sleep till Brooklyn' hosts the VMAs!"

Welcome back to New York VMAs.

Brooklyn's going hard in 2013....

I feel so bad for the

I feel so bad for the residents who live in that area its going to be a nightmare and HELL for them regarding public transportation SMH the MTA already sucks as it is

New York doesn't have a sucky

New York doesn't have a sucky MTA. They have the best public transportation system in the US. Most NYC residents don't even have cars because of how great it is. It's underground. It's the visitors in cars that will experience hell.

Girl, the MTA is a massive

Girl, the MTA is a massive clusterfuck of NO! Late trains, dirty trains, over-crowded trains, rat-infested train stations, MTA booth employees who refuse to give riders refunds if their metro cards malfunction, and all that when unlimited fare metro cards jumped from $104 to $112 and a single ride jumped to $2.50. There is NOTHING good about the MTA!

LOL thats funny you obviously

LOL thats funny you obviously dont live in NY....no heat in the winter in the subway system nor AC in the summer, congested trains (especially during rush hour), dirty trains, horrible train traffic (and worse at night. waiting 30-40 mins for a train is ridiculous) not to mention MTA already raised the single and weekly fares so not sure what this 'best public transportation' you speak of...you mustve visited NYC once years ago boo and most people dont have cars in NY cuz you can easily take a cab and parking is expensive as hell (who wants to spend hundreds of dollars a month on parking) and just trying to find parking 90% of the time is impossible

Amen to that! I had a car

Amen to that! I had a car when I first moved to NYC and I had to let it go. Alternate side parking rules meant I had to move my car to the opposite side if the street every day but Wednesday and the weekends. If you don't move your car you gelt slapped with a $45 ticket. And gas in NYC is ridiculous! Throw in the cost of getting yearly inspections and the $175/month I had to pay for car insurance and it got to be crazy! And if you try to drive into Manhattan and park, you're paying $25/day to park or $10-$15/hour. I had enough...got rid of my car and started taking cabs.
