Serena Williams Braves The "Rape Comment" Backlash, Hits The Pre-Wimbledon Party In London

 photo wenn20457962_zps2d7ec104.jpg

Serena Williams has had a major few weeks of headlines.  After winning the French Open for the second time earlier this month, folks were outraged by her comments about the Steubenville High School rape case in her latest Rolling Stone interview...

In a tight white mini dress with a front black zipper trim, Serena's fave style it seems, the fab tennis pro threw on her doll-like wiggery (which she could have kept honestly) to hit the annual pre-Wimbledon party at Kensington Roof Gardens in London.

But it was her recent comments she made to Rolling Stone about the high school boys in Steubenville, OH who were accused of raping a teen girl.  People said she was victim-blaming when she spoke up saying the victim was "lucky" (likely meaning lucky something worse didn't happen) and that girls should be taught how not to get themselves in situations like those (being drunk and not in control).

I'm not blaming the girl, but if you're a 16-year-old and you're drunk like that, your parents should teach you—don't take drinks from other people. She's 16, why was she that drunk where she doesn't remember? It could have been much worse. She's lucky. Obviously I don't know, maybe she wasn't a virgin, but she shouldn't have put herself in that position, unless they slipped her something, then that's different."

Serena's most recent statement alluded to her words being misconstrued by RS.  She said:

"What happened in Steubenville was a real shock for me. I was deeply saddened. For someone to be raped, and at only sixteen, is such a horrible tragedy! For both families involved — that of the rape victim and of the accused. I am currently reaching out to the girl's family to let her know that I am deeply sorry for what was written in the Rolling Stone article. What was written — what I supposedly said — is insensitive and hurtful, and I by no means would say or insinuate that she was at all to blame.

"I have fought all of my career for women's equality, women's equal rights, respect in their fields — anything I could do to support women I have done. My prayers and support always goes out to the rape victim. In this case, most especially, to an innocent sixteen year old child."

And despite all the backlash from the media and the masses, Serena stepped out with confidence last night:

And also had a bit of a spill with her clutch, but chick picked it back up and worked it out for the cameras:

Serena is a rich strong

Serena is a rich strong greased up monkey man, she can't relate to common people problems.

There is nothing wrong with

There is nothing wrong with agreeing with Serina's statement. She wasn't saying it was ok that the girl got raped just that she shouldn't have been in that situation to be begin with. She's telling the truth.

Serena looks like a beautiful man trying to be a woman. I'm sorry she does. Anytime you choose to drink excessively around a group of men/people you barely know is never a good idea.

I'm super surprised to read

I'm super surprised to read these comments. There is NEVER A CIRCUMSTANCE under which it is okay to have sex with someone against their will PERIOD. So let's say the girl had been 21? Would that have changed ya'lls opinions about it? The POINT is that we are living in a culture in which rape is consistently being framed as somehow being the girl's fault. Whether she's so drunk she pees her pants or walking down a street at night -- NOBODY is allowed to forcibly touch her. There is NOTHING okay about men taking ADVANTAGE of the fact that she was in that state of mind. All of you keep saying "she put herself in that position." No she put herself in a position to be ill from alcohol poisoning. What she did not do is put herself in a position to where men sticking their dicks inside her against her will is okay. Why? Because THAT IS NEVER OKAY. PS you do realize that 21 is a completely arbitrary age for making alcohol consumption legal? Age has not shit to do with the fact that nobody can ever PUT themselves in a "position to be raped" and we need to stop adding the caveat that "While rape is bad...she shouldn't have been doing x,y,z." And definitely don't call yourself a feminist or an ally or an advocate if you're going to make statements like that. Looking at you GG Boo 4 U.

First- I'm trying to figure

First- I'm trying to figure out why Serena even touched this subject...this is clearly not her lane. But what gets me more than that is all of these folks saying they agree with her original statement. It doesn't matter if the victim was drunk, out partying, or a virgin (WTH?!) the only individuals responsible for the rape are the ones who MADE THE CHOICE to commit the crime- period. We need to stop all of this victim blaming ("she should have" "she should have never") because its the MAIN reason why rape is the most under-reported violent crime in our country and victims suffer in silence-sometimes for the rest of their lives. And further more- the double standard that exist is shameful- if a 16 y/o male got drunk and passed out at a party (because *that* doesn't happen does it...?) and was sexually assaulted NO ONE would be asking why he was at a party and drinking... Of course we want ALL of our kids to be safe and strive to make the right decisions-- but this include being respectful of other human beings and know that it is unacceptable to violate anyone- especially in such a heinous way as sexual assault. And I would LOVE for our kids (and everyone else for that matter) to know that as a society we don't support this kind of behavior and won't feel any sympathy for the ones who decide to commit this crime...

I'm riding with this chick.

I'm riding with this chick. No she did not deserve rape. But at 16 I was not drinking. My mother had the talk with me about taking drinks even from folks you know. And she also taught me there were places that I didn't need to be. She didn't deserve to be victimized but she put herself in the place. That is real. And women need to know better.

She is a great athlete. She

She is a great athlete. She has a nice figure (particularly a big ass which black men love). But she looks very mannish. Nothing feminine about her at all. With that wig she does look like drag queen. Definitely NOT hating or jealous. I would not want to look like her. I prefer to have something soft and feminine about myself. I guess she can't help but have those hulk arms since she is always playing tennis. JMO

As a women's rights advocate

As a women's rights advocate I think it was approprate for her to answer and I think her response was OK. Children should not be in those situations and PARENTS need to be vigilant as well no matter how much kids whine andhrow tantrums because THIS could be the result. And young boys need to be taught respect of girls and women as well and were dead wrong for their actions. Sarina looks great as usual but I don't lik that crooked wiggery. The reporter's shoes are cute as hell.
GG Boo 4 U's picture

Serena should have kept her

Serena should have kept her answer short and quick or just not have answered it at all. I think what she was trying to say, which I agree with, is that women need to be extra vigilant when going out; there are so many dangers when out partying/drinking, women need to look out for themselves.

The media will trap you into

The media will trap you into making controversial comments...why ask her about a rape and not about who she's cheering for in the NBA finals or what she's expecting from the Dolphins this next season (since she owns a % of the team)?...#messy and I agree with her original comment. The next 16 year old girl needs to know that you should not get shit faced drunk with boys because they will take advantage of you. Like our parents always used to say 'pick your friends wisely'!

She look like a drag queen

She look like a drag queen with that raggedy wig on. Did she bath in just baby oil. I agree, she should not even be commenting on that situation. How did the journalist even get on that topic. That is why most celebs have publicist there during interviews cause most celebs are too dumb to realize they are being pulled into making controversial statements. I actually agree with what Serena said but I'm glad the boys were convicted.
