Singer Janelle Monae covers the latest issue of VIBE VIXEN where she dishes on her upcoming album The Electric Lady.  And why she's so nice & nasty....at the same time....

Singer Janelle Monae, who just released her "Primetime" single featuring Miguel, covers the latest issue of Vibe Vixen where she dishes on her upcoming album The Electric Lady (September 10).  Inside, she described what it means to be an "Electric Lady" saying, "An electric lady is quirky, unafraid, epic and ‘nicety’—that’s when you’re being nice and nasty, noble and naughty, all at the same damn time.”

When discussing how how life has changed since she entered the music business, Janelle said, “I’ve evolved. When you realize it’s your responsibility to be a leader and create the world that you want to see, you have to do it. It’s my responsibility to create music and come up with ideas that keep my community first.”

And about her love life, which she rarely opens up about....she's only focused on her music.  But she DID give what her ideal man would be like:

"An android is my preference—two androids and a cyborg," she said. "I’m someone who sees your spirit and soul. I love passionate androids; one that knows exactly what it’s going to do in life. I love smart androids, idealists, leaders, but good followers. Androids that are compassionate, honest, can make me laugh, knows how to handle an Electric Lady and supports an Electric Lady’s dreams, and wings when it’s time to fly.”

On being an artist:  “I was inspired to create a female rock star. I think an electric lady isn’t to be marginalized. As the narrator and creator of these characters, I have lived by not making myself a slave to my own interpretations of who I am or a slave to your interpretations or anybody’s interpretations of who I am.”
