Mom Of “Honey Bun Baby” SPEAKS Out – Says She Had No Idea How People Got Pics Of Her Son, But She’s Embracing His Social Media Fame
An adorable little boy dubbed Honey Bun Baby has gone viral. And now, his mother is speaking out about his social media fame. More inside…
If you’ve been active on social media lately, you may have come across a few memes that feature Honey Bun Baby.
Ashton Howell, a 22-month old boy from Alabama, has been stealing our hearts and giving us laughs as the newest viral meme baby.
But get this…
His mother, Ariel Griggs, had NO idea how people were even getting pictures of her son because the pictures that were floating around she didn’t even have in her possession.
"My first thought was, 'How did they get my baby's pictures? I mean, I don't have these pictures,'" Ariel tells AL.com.
"I'm thinking, 'Let's report it,'” says the tax agency owner and mother-of-two. “You know, pictures are very intimate to me, very private. But it got to the point where it was like wildfire. You couldn't stop it. I was very anxious and worried about his safety."
After racking her brain on who could have taken the photos, she finally realized it was her 18-year-old brother Steven Small, who is a freshman at UC Berkeley. He babysat little Ashton frequently before heading off to college and had tons of pics of the tot.
"He thought it was funny to dress Ashton up, putting his 'little' big head in caps and stuff and taking pictures of him. I found out he has tons of pictures of Ashton on Instagram. I guess people just thought his pictures were cute and went from there," she says.
She continues, "I'm kind of leery of social media. I kinda think that my brother set this up as a ploy to get more followers on Instagram, but he hasn't admitted, yet."
However, Ariel is concerned about some of the more vulgar memes that feature her son. "After Thanksgiving, I'm starting to see more that are the crazy ones. The last couple memes I've seen, they've been a little X-rated. I don't want people looking at my baby's picture and thinking of stuff like that!"
Ariel says she plans to keep raising him like she always has and hasn’t let his viral fame go to her head…or his. He doesn’t even know what’s going on.
"I see that they call him 'Honey Bun Baby,'" Ariel says. "I thought that was so funny. People have been asking if I can have another child and name him 'Cinnamon Roll.'"
