Jennifer Hudson and David Otunga have officially called it quits, but the split is FAR more dramatic than expected.  Deets inside...

After 10 years together, "The Voice" judge Jennifer Hudson and WWE star wrestler turned commentator David Otunga have called off their engagement and split.  J-Hud made the announcement late last night via her rep, saying that she has filed for an order of protection against David.  The reason: To protect their 8-year-old son David Jr.

The statement given to People reads:

“They have been in the process of ending their relationship for a number of months.  Today, Jennifer requested and received a protective order against her ex-fiancé. Jennifer’s actions are solely taken in the best interest of their son.”

Of course, a protective order makes folks think some type of abuse went down.  And the rumor mill has been turning ever since.

David then put out his own statement (via his lawyer Tracy M. Rizzo) a few hours later to clear his name:

“Mr. Otunga has never abused or harassed Ms. Hudson or their son, and it is unfortunate, especially in today’s climate, that she would feel the need to make these false allegations against him. Mr. Otunga looks forward to his day in court and in being awarded the residential care of the parties’ only child.”

But get this.  Jennifer had cops come to the house last night and throw David out!

Sources familiar with the case tell TMZ, Hudson went to court Thursday without telling Otunga and got an order of protection, claiming he is a risk to both her and their 8-year-old son, David, Jr.

The police came, allowed Otunga to pack a bag and ordered him out.

It all stemmed from what J-Hud claims was David's angry outburst where he got physically aggressive with her over cheating claims:

She claims David has exhibited "aggressive, threatening and harassing behavior toward me." She says, "I am now living in fear of further action David might take."

She claims on Wednesday she was at a recording session in Chicago with their son, David Jr., and David made a series of phone calls to reach her and when he couldn't get her he asked their son, David, Jr., to record the scene. Hudson says David wanted their son to show she was dating one of her producers ... something she denies.

She says when she got home David was visibly angry, grabbed David Jr. by the hand and physically pushed Hudson out of the master suite.

She says this was just the most recent in a pattern of escalating and threatening behavior.

So, somebody's lying (or exaggerating).  But this split doesn't seem like it will end amicably.

David's lawyer went into detail abt Jennifer's protective order, claiming it was a preemptive strike to prevent David from getting primary custody:

“David Otunga has been trying to negotiate the terms of an amicable parenting agreement with Ms. Hudson for several weeks now,” the statement read.

“However, when it became apparent to Ms. Hudson that Mr. Otunga would be the parent granted residential care of the child, as a result of Mr. Otunga being the child’s primary caregiver while Ms. Hudson pursues her career all over the world, Ms. Hudson decided to file a meritless Petition for Order of Protection in an effort to gain an unfair advantage in the custody dispute.”

The statement also claims Jennifer is purposely playing the victim in order to save face:

“As a result of Mr. Otunga’s career in the WWE, Ms. Hudson felt that she could give an award winning performance in court to portray herself as the victim. Mr. Otunga has never abused or harassed Ms. Hudson or their son, and it is unfortunate, especially in today’s climate, that she would feel the need to make these false allegations against him. Mr. Otunga looks forward to his day in court and in being awarded the residential care of the parties’ only child.”

Wow.

37-year-old David proposed to 36-year-old Jennifer back in September 2008 after a year of dating.  The Oscar winner has been mum about wedding plans, other than giving the standard "I'm still picking out dresses" answer.

Now we know why....
