Celebs Give Back

Thanksgiving Fab!

Happy Thanksgiving to all my fabulous YBF readers! Time to check out what our new First Family has been up to this Thanksgiving Holiday: President-elect Barack Obama and his wife Michelle O. took their daughters to work at a Chicago food bank yesterday, saying they wanted to show the girls the meaning of the holiday, especially when so many people are struggling. Ten-year-old Malia and 7-year-old Sasha joined their parents to shake hands and give holiday wishes to hundreds of people who had been lined up for hours at the food bank on Chicago's south side. Fab. More pics when you read the rest...

Do Gooders: Usher & Swizz Beatz

Celebs are out doing some great things when they're not doing things that are gossip worthy. And we have what Usher & Swizz Beatz have been up to: Usher has revealed a new song called "Hush" that contains a strong message to vote. He says Democracy is bigger than just voting on Nov. 4. It’s about service. Usher debuted the "Hush" single yesterday on iTunes as part of his continued national call-to-service for young people, which began with the Project Restart campaign after Hurricane Katrina, has continued over the years with his own New Look nonprofit organization and most recently continued with his appointment as Youth-Chair of the Service Nation Summit attended by over 500 Service Leaders including John McCain, Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and Laura Bush. The song is available now for download at iTunes as well as www.UshersNewLook.org – portions of the proceeds will benefit the New Look Organization.
Swizzy loves the kids. Recently Swizz Beatz visited the with the parents and kids/patients of the Children's Cancer and Blood Foundation (CCBF) at New York Presbyterian hospital as well as their laboratories to get a first hand look at their research. This is an organization he strongly supports as they are making groundbreaking strides in medicine for children inflicted with blood diseases (Sickle Cell, HIV/AIDS +) and cancer regardless of their financial circumstances. Soon he will be honored by the CCBF at their annual Breakthrough Ball where he will receive a Breakthrough Spirit Award for his outstanding contributions and support of the foundation. And, of course, Swizz is composing a song inspired by the children of CCBF that he will post online for purchase and all proceeds will go to the foundation.
