Miss Good Good, Ashanti appears on the cover of Page Six…
On her career coming to a halt in 2005:
“That was the worst part—not having a say as to what’s happening in my own life,” she says. “To a singer, that’s like telling them they’re dying. It was tragic.”
On finding it hard to watch artists like Fergie and Rihanna fill her void:
“I’d hear a song on the radio and wish mine was next. But I respect a lot of the artists who’ve come along since I was out, especially Rihanna. She’s smart and she’s worked the business instead of having the business work her.”
Back in action now, Ashanti is even more driven, and not just with career. Having two children with her boyfriend and fellow artist Nelly, she says thoughts are turning to marriage.
“I’ve been planning my wedding in my head since I was a little girl, and it just keeps getting more elaborate. I’m a huge fan of the Caribbean, so if I don’t get married in New York, it would have to be on the beach.”

So many people believe that once you’re engaged you have to be married by a certain time or when you date someone you should be engaged by a certain time…but I was 19 when we started dated and there has never been a moment where I felt put on hold. Everything happened the way it was supposed to.”

She doesn’t need to ride high on a chart. She gets song-writer money. So she gets paid either way. Her album is past 200,000 units currently (note I said currently, she’s not at 90,000 copies anymore, that was her first week when her album was released in June). In about a month or two, she should be gold, and that’s good enough. Especially now, when half these artist are getting pushed back or not coming out at all. She managed to put an album out and drop two singles. By herself, I might add. So that deserves props more than anything.
It’s more than just the charts or a record sale. People don’t realize, albums don’t have to sell a bunch of copies first week or be number 1 to sell. There’s plenty of albums that sell over time. It seems people have forgotten that old school way. But it’s understandable, because you guys like everything in music like it’s fast food. Everything has to happen right away, or you’re considred not successful in this day. Either way, she looks real nice on the cover. And say what you will, but she released a pretty darn good R&B album this year (Yep, lil former lemon voiced Ashanti LOL).
Sidebar: They’re talking about Nelly’s kids. Ashanti doesn’t have any.
Switching gears, I keep hearing about the “alledged” shooting at Jermaine DSupri’s party. I wish somebody would clear the story up. It was either a shootin, and bottle/speaker or something. Either way, it’s good to see people are safe. Whic leads me to say, why the hack are my people always shooting something up or killing our own? The violence is just getting rediculous now.

Yes, this graveyard story sounds very familiar…thanks for the info…maybe she never really got over the death of her ex-boyfriend and his brother, she was younger then and it was unexpected. Maybe she is just not ready to make that sort of commitment yet…that’s sad though.

I like Ashanti alot. She reminds me of Toni Braxton (not in singing but in niceness). These two women were just desperate to get a record deal that they were willing to take anything. They both seems content with just having a record deal and never questioned their Management or Labels about % of royalities. Now that Ashanti has alot of time to reflect on her career, she sees that she could have gotten more milage and money from her label. She realize that you can still be nice but you have to ask for what you want and make sure you get what you want.

Im from the STL born and raised and Nelly has more than two kids. He just claims two publicly. He had a daughter in 1995 by a neighbor of mine. The little girl looks more like him than any of his kids that he has been seen with publicly. He and my neighbor were not in a serious relationship(just a booty call at the time). When she informed him of the pregnancy he accussed her of trying to trap him because of his celebrity status (which at that time he and the St. Lunitics were just a local act, a far cry from celebrity status). Needless to say she was blessed with a guy who was also a friend of mine, they got married and live a pretty compfortable lifestyle. She reached out to him and his mother in the beginnig but after being rejected she decided that it was there loss. This is not a rumor this is a fact but you can take it for what its worth………………..
