No, your eyes are not deceiving you. That is indeed supposed to be Beyonce in this new L’Oreal ad and I’m convinced she just didn’t show up for the shoot so they photoshopped her face in the pic while using a white model’s head. And that’s all I’m going to say about that. Those Knowles know they need to stop.
Sexy-Sugah.com
UPDATE: L’Oreal Paries denies any skin lightening or feature altering. They told E! Online that “We highly value our relationship with Ms. Knowles. It is categorically untrue that L’Oréal Paris altered Ms. Knowles’ features or skin-tone in the campaign for Feria’s hair color.” Whatevs.

Wed, August 6, 2008 10:09 AM
Who in Beyonce’s camp thought it was okay for her to do an international advertising campaign for a hair care line in an obvious wig/lacefront with a “supa” fair complexion?
Loreal could have saved major bucks and just hired Michael or Latoya Jackson for this ad! No, just kidding!!
Beyonce has got do better and be more accountable for her image in these campaigns. B, make the money. Please do not let the money make you, okay? Get it together, girl!!
Nothing is worse than black folks (your pre-dominant fan base) turning its back on you for sell-out infractions!!
Wed, August 6, 2008 10:10 AM
Ok, i would LOVE to see how the STANS are gonna excuse this!
Wed, August 6, 2008 10:10 AM
It ain’t even her. L’Oreal just Caucasianized the fcuk out of her. They thinned her nose, upper lip, shaved her jawline, bleached her eyebrows, and picked a most unnatural shade of dye to dip that wig in. If you ever wondered why s**t like this goes down, she doesn’t get final approval on print ads, only her magazine shoots. And if you notice, on her OWN ish, she’s still BLACK, even with ten pounds of yaki on. This here B.S. is a case of them straight up stripping the ethnicity down to a nub.

Beyonce, No Ma’AM! Totally unacceptable!!
Girl, does your founding and pre-dominantly African American fan base need to remind you what happens when we turn a deaf hear to those who net fame and wealth from our loyal support when they start selling out?
Or, in you case allowing Papa Knowles and the team to out the dollar signs before the social responsibility and accountability you owe to your “entire” fan base?
No one wants to see you in a bad wig with Michael and LAtoya’s complexions for an international beauty campaign whose main product line is hair care products?
Who advises these celebrities? The game is much bigger than what would have been fly at Mama Tina’s Turning Heads Salon!!
Please, get it together, girl? Okay?
PS-Solange, why are you snickering behind yor sister’s back? You know you have too much authenticity to let her go out like that, girl. Be your sister’s keeper!!

that’s the reason why, we as black people canT even look at famous singer as role model.everybody knows that beyoncé, euhmm im sorry kimberly kimble never used l’oreal product on beyoncé hair or wigs or lace front or whatever u want
why cant she promote dark and lovely who is also a l’oreal brand? instead of let this young girls think that by using l’oreal her hair are going to be flawless when obviously everyone with sense no it won’t work on our hair
Wed, August 6, 2008 10:23 AM

Well Mama Tina said that she wasn’t black. LOL. Mama Tina said that she was Indian and something else (besides black). So with that being said, that must be Beyonce’s true skin color because she is MIXED…because we all know if you are a POPULAR black woman in hollywood, you must be mixed. *end sarcasm*

I love Beyonce, but I’m a little disappointed in this. I will almost bet that she didnt do this shoot and that they use old photos of her and photoshopped it to make her appear more “marketable.” She under contract with L’Oreal, so they can do what they please with the pictures. This is what happens when you sell your to the devil.

Creole is what they call themselves because they are from multiple ethnic groups (supposedly) and they are light skinned…at the end of the day they are still black because I have never seen a box for Creole on anybody’s application! And before you start I am not dark skinned and AM from S. Louisiana, ok..so i can speak on it!
not all the creol are light skinned u need to go in martinque, guadaloupe, bahamas,or jamaica before u say sum like dat
actually most of the creol are a mix of african, indian, white that why sometimes some of them got blue or green eyes,im creol cuz im from martinique and i looks like gabrielle union so…DUNNO WHATCHU TALKING ABOUT

I’m from the N.O. And I know EXACTLY what you are talking about. I personally think (back in the day) Creole ppl gave themselves that definition in an effort to not associate themselves with blacks…kinda like they wanted to appear “better” than black folk. SIDEBAR: I also get pissed at people acting like Egypt ain’t a part of Africa. IMO, Egyptians are to Africans just like Creoles are to AA/Blacks. I guess too many important things happened in Egypt to associate that with African ancestry. WTF ever!!!

Wait……hold up. Weren’t some of ya’ll the same ones saying how cute and fresh faced she looked in those new pics from the other day? It’s obvious L’Oreal did a really bad photoshop job. They lightened her skin, eyes and altered her top lip. I believe this ad is in the new Elle magazine. Not surprising that they would try to make her look this way when Elle is a white magazine.
Some of ya’ll are acting like Beyonce gave baby Daniel a white crayon and said here you can edit aunties ad. This ain’t the first time a celeb had had their pic photoshopped and may not have approved the changes. They did the same thing to Kate Winslet when they made her a size 2 rather than an 8. She pulled their card quick on that one.

And before you start I am not dark skinned and AM from S. Louisiana, ok..so i can speak on it!
not all the creol are light skinned u need to go in martinque, guadaloupe, bahamas,or jamaica before u say sum like dat
actually most of the creol are a mix of african, indian, white that why sometimes some of them got blue or green eyes,im creol cuz im from martinique and i looks like gabrielle union so…DUNNO WHATCHU TALKING ABOUT
WOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW SORRY MY COMMENT WAS TO:SUGAR
OK, ladies and gent…Let’s not get on this light against dark….*i have no idea of which side i’m on…I’m brown!LOL* But anywho, this is what “they” want us to do, prejudice amongst a race…….Let this ish go….If Beyonce wants to be light, bright damn near white ainlet her…..That’s her complex, not mine….
Co-sign!!!!!!
But its not even that
I see it as an insult no matter what shade of black or brown
We had so many ppl fightin for our honor and now this new age thing wants to degrade it by tryin to bleach their skin and shit.

Yeah you know how when artist sign with a record label and they end losing total control of the direction they want their album to go in. Or they dont really have any creative input into what message they want to present to the public. Well it happens all the time when people sign contracts with companies that have a certain image they want pretrayed.
Wed, August 6, 2008 10:57 AM
Ok… I will give you all the point that the pictures are a bit much, but must we be so ultra critical… I dont think she had creative control over these pictures, and for everyone who says People will do anything for money need to really stop and look in the mirror and make sure you haven’t done any selling out of your own… It is very easy to judge people, and make up Ludicrous assumptions about a persons character until you are the one being judged. I am sure her day is going on without a thought or care of any of the negative things people think of her.

But I’m not by any means giving Beyonce and her camp a pass. I mean if I were her I’d be furious looking at this pic. But white folks do it all the time to sell products. They dumb down our music, and they put weave, bleach in our skin…yet they spend hours in medical offices and tanning booths look like us.
I say only do endorsements for products that is going to uplift OUR community, even it means passing up on a few bucks.

here creole- have been applied to people in different countries and epochs, with rather different meanings. Those terms are almost always used in the general area of present or former colonies in other continents, and originally referred to locally-born people with foreign ancestry.
the real definition
Wed, August 6, 2008 11:05 AM
Morning peoples!
I like the blonde hair color. I don’t think they should have photoshopped her picture to make her look lighter. That hair color would’ve looked ok on her skin. I had my hair that similar color and I’m about the same color as Bey (when she showing her real color).

But that does not excuse the photoshopped nose, that ugly dirty blond white girl hair color and that jawline…L’Oreal is wrong for this!!!

yea she aint the color of Melinda Williams but she sure aint that airbrushed color either, Beyonce is at a level in her career were she can yes and no some shit!!! Hell they got her lighter than Mariah C and Halle B and they have white in they ass….they airbrushed all Beyonce’s melanin
She IS lighter than halle berry-always has been…that color is mariah’s color-have you seen mariaha-she’s light as sh*t! i’ve seen tons of pix of her out and about in the streets and she’s light-they darken her most of the time so she has a browner, sexier, sunkissed glow. even in her baby and childhood pix she’s light.
The picture is pretty they just went overboard with the photoshopping. I remember that scene when Beyonce has the dark bob and the mod dress in Dream girls. You could tell from that scene Beyonce is extremely light skinned. She is darker in this picture than she was in that movie scene, and that was actual film footage.
Beyonce just uses bronzer and tans to have a deeper skin color. I don’t even think her hair looks bad. I think it’s more extensions and they maybe photoshopped extra volume to her hair. Beyonce’s hair has been lighter than this and her eyebrows have matched. I don’t even think this is that light of a color. It actually does flatter how skin. Beyonce’s eyes are actually light brown, not dark brown. Those are Beyonce’s real facial features. They didn’t alter her nose, eyes or lips. Beyonce has a mix of a cute, button nose and a pointy nose. That’s how her nose photographs from the side. Her lips are full and have a nice contour to them, but they’re not big like Angelina Jolie’s or Gina Torres.
What was altered was maybe her cheeks, jawline and neck, and they were slimmed down. Which they shouldn’t have done because it makes the picture look somewhat artificial. But everybody’s pictures are altered. My sister and I were talking about how Halle Berry’s and Jessica Alba’s recent tv commercials were shot in too soft of a light and made them look like cartoon characters, instead of real people. The photoshopping and soft lighting has got out of hand, but I can still tell that’s Beyonce and she hasn’t been altered to point of no recognition or that she looks like a white woman.
Wed, August 6, 2008 12:17 PM
Yes whoever worked on this ad at Lo’real needs to be fired for photoshopping this picture like crazy. It is definitely a mess. The coloring of the hair, eyebrows, and reshaping of her face is so off. It’s a shame they can’t accept a woman in her full form, and have to alter the image. This picture is indeed terrible. However I won’t go and place the blame on Beyonce. Bad photoshop jobs happen to entertainers all of the time. Google it and Im sure you’ll find a lot of information. Once they hire someone and pay them money to fix up the photos they have the say so in how they print it. Beyonce has done numerous Lo’real ads for them before and they have never looked like this. Even down to the commercials. Whoever they hired for this one didn’t know what in the hell they were doing at all. It’s a reach to condemn Beyonce and say she wants to be something she’s not when clearly all of her other ads say otherwise. Why can’t ppl just accept it for what it is? An extremely messed up ad and job on behalf of the artistic director. Some people wait for anything to happen just so they can go on their usual rant about people putting Beyonce on a pedastal and y they don’t like her. It’s a shame people WAIT for bad things to happen to a person, while ignoring the positive. They are mainly the ones with the MOST POSTS in a Beyonce discussion.
Why wait for the supposed stans when you have already arrived???? Funny indeed.
Wed, August 6, 2008 12:18 PM
I am not surprised and if you were, then shame on you~
It is sad when a woman (of any color) does not like the way they look. I’ve followed her career from beginning to now and her lips and nose as changed a lot. She was always pretty and did not need to alter her look.
Wed, August 6, 2008 12:19 PM
@JJJ Why is this such a surprise? Beyonce’ is as fake as the hair on her head…
Exactly…she has been very clear and consistent as to what she cares about….
Why is this such a surprise? Beyonce’ is as fake as the hair on her head…
Now Beyonce and Co have never made apologies about the fact that they care MOST about MONEY and FAME…Forget education, forget respecting our black legends (ie. MLK, Aretha)
Why is this such a surprise? Beyonce’ is as fake as the hair on her head…
Her stans feel not to mind but OUR entertainers USED to care about the community….Marvin Gaye…What’s goning on…..
but today from Diddy, to Jay and definitly Beyonce…its all about THEM going yachting with Gwen and nem.
I wish the hood would wake up and stop supporting these parasites.
Forget everything but……
Wed, August 6, 2008 12:19 PM
Oh great I just got back home, come on here and THIS is what I see???? Lord u really need help if Beyonce is ALL you’re obsessed with. Beyonce haters and stans are as bad each other. The saddest past of all this crap is that Beyonce is the most innocent person in Black America’s two-sided battle of the one known as Mrs Carter (nee Knowles). Seriously, WHY is Beyonce SO special in your lives that u devote hours on her, whether you hate her vehemently or are an overzealous stalker?????!!!! It’s pathetic and makes black people using the Internet look really dumb. Beyonce doesn’t care about your lives, so why pry into her’s. Has she touched you personally?
Everything about her gets discussed, to the smallest little detail. I bet money that if this blog (or any other) ran a report about Beyonce FARTING (yeah, that’s right) World War Three would break out as we speak and YBF would probably shut down for about 6 months!!!! Leave the poor woman alone, she is doing her job, and is taking every opportunity she can. We live in a capitalist society where money is everything, so I don’t blame Beyonce for getting her name on endorsements, having a fashion house, branches out into other projects (acting), and so forth.
It’s sad, because in that Tyra Banks post, I tired giving us the benefit of the doubt when someone talked about black women putting successful black women down. Well I still acknowledge that jealousy and bitchiness is something women of all races do, but for some reason it sticks out more when we do it, because celebrity culture/fashion/vanity/outter appearance is what so many black women are obsessed with, rather than getting an education or a job or setting our sights higher. Tie that in with the “angry black woman” stereotype and of course people are gonna judge us. Even if women from other races write nasty comments about women in the industry, why the fuck do so many black women try to use that excuse to justify their own behaviour?? We should NOT follow those women from other races.
I am afraid that the work of Willie Lynch continues even from beyond the grave. Blacks divided in every sense of the word.

I have said it before and I will say it again: Beyonce looks more and more like a white girl everyday. I’m telling you deep down she wants to be Gwyneth. She does. If girl took out that 10 pound weave, copped a badaasss cut, darkened her hair — she’d tack on yet another 15 minutes to her superstardom. Madonna is not a bad model to follow in terms of her genius for re-invention.

Hmmm…
she does not look white to me.
She don’t look brown either!!!!! Maybe she’s ALBINO!!!!
An albino has sensitive eyes when in sunlight, their sclera are red opposed to the normal white, their hair does not take to dye, due to lack of pigment. So, she is not an albino~
Wed, August 6, 2008 12:25 PM
Beyonce sells class rings yest she didn’t graduate
Hair products yet she wears wigs
clothing but she wears chanel
Perfume but she’s allergic
WHEN will the PEOPLE start looking for substance again…forget what someone LOOKS LIKE…focus on what they STAND FOR…..Beyonce, money and fame at whatever costs…..certainly not the traditional black values that got us where we are today as a people…that is why we are losing our communities…our values are going down the drain as no one is reinforcing them….not to say that Beyonce should it is more a commentary on the state of the industry and the fact that with her UBER talent she is not using that to change or do anything different…she just needs her check…
What if all black people were like that in the past? We would never be here today. What if there was never a ‘black is beautiful’ period….for the youngsters there really isnt..all they are being told is
If you black better try to find some creole, indian, latina
def got to have your weave and hair bleach game on point
oh yeah and you have to have everybody’s product yet not one factory employs black people.
We are not moving forward as a people as we were we just want to beg from massa’s table now. Go Beyonce! But like someone said, she is letting the money MAKE her.
Wed, August 6, 2008 12:31 PM
It ain’t even her. L’Oreal just Caucasianized the fcuk out of her. They thinned her nose, upper lip, shaved her jawline, bleached her eyebrows, and picked a most unnatural shade of dye to dip that wig in. If you ever wondered why s**t like this goes down, she doesn’t get final approval on print ads, only her magazine shoots. And if you notice, on her OWN ish, she’s still BLACK, even with ten pounds of yaki on. This here B.S. is a case of them straight up stripping the ethnicity down to a nub.
Thank you! My sentiments exactly. We need to stop attacking each other and go after the companies who pay and promote this bullshit. The average rapper does not choose the video actresses, the record companies choose who to sign and what type of music they producue. We all love JHud for who she is, a normal size black woman, but the record company felt it was neccessary to shave her size down on her album cover. They want Estelle to change her hair and fix her teeth. Please YBF family take a little blogging time and join me in writing letters to LOreal and letting them know how I feel about this ad, talking amongst ourselves is not enough, let them know how we feel about the choices they make, and the bullshit they promote.
Wed, August 6, 2008 12:32 PM
And another thing why is the skin tone of black women STILL a massive issue?? She’s either too light or too dark. WT do yall wanna see? EVERY black woman, whether it’s Beyonce to India Arie ALWAYS has some comments pertaining to skin color. STFU with that and think about your own damn lives!! Nothing satisfies idiots.
Do u know how much abuse white people gave Beyonce when she was on the cover of Sports Illustrated? All because she is a BLACK WOMAN!!!!!! The bigger picture is that we’re all seen as black, whether we’re light bright, high yellow, redbone, brown, or dark as the night.
Wed, August 6, 2008 12:35 PM
Damn I know they photoshopped this pic but if Beyonce gets any lighter or blonder she’ll look like Christina Aguilera. I know she had a nose job when she was in Destiny’s Child but her nose looks horrible in this pic. When she was younger she was like a chocolate brown color and now she’s very light skinned. You know Papa Knowles was behind that shit. Do you all remember when that chick Farrah got kicked out of the group? She did an interview with Vibe and told the reporter that matthew and tina knowles made her go to tanning beds on a regular basis because Beyonce had to be the light skinned one in the group. That’s why Kelly runs around and has all this plastic surgery because for years she was probably made to feel less beautiful than Beyonce.
Wed, August 6, 2008 12:36 PM
This looks a mess. She aint even close to being that light! HELL NAW. Beyonce needs to stop trying to be white and leave those lace fronts ALONE!!!!!

I hate that “creole” race crap. Thats not a true race which means its no excuse to Bey for looking like a hot mess.
Okay if you’re from LA, then you know “Creole race” doesn’t make sense. It’s a heritage…not a race. And not all Creoles are light skinned…if you’re from LA you should know that.
And yes I’m from NOLA, light skinned, AND Creole so I guess that makes me qualified to speak on it as well. It’s not a race. It’s a heritage brought about from blacks mixing with European/Native American groups. Folks from LA should know this and not speculate on it. There’s not a box for Southern on applications, either.
Beyonce’s ad doesn’t bother me one bit. My eyes are drawn to her reddish-toned hair. She doesn’t do Dark & Lovely because Kelly got that on lock. She’d be all up in that girl’s spotlight and then folks would be complaining about her stealing Kelly’s shine.
Wed, August 6, 2008 12:41 PM
LMAO at Beyonce haters dreaming and waiting on something like this. LMAO even more at them waiting to see what her fans have to say.
What topped it all was the lame ‘beyawnce’ line. Because if she was really that boring, then you wouldnt be commenting on all her posts and waiting for her fans responses.
If this had been Rihanna, Ciara, or any other less popular artist this would have been no big deal. But since it’s BEYONCE people freak out.LMAO Seems to me that the haters are the ones who put Beyonce up on a pedestal.
Beyonce is hands down the most powerful black female artist of this generation. People overanalyze and make the biggest deal out of everything she does.
Hottest chick in the game indeed. Mary has been photoshopped looking light skin on covers, Jennifer Hudson has been photoshopped looking like a size 2, and Rihanna has been on covers looking white but nobody cared about none of them.
But with BEYONCE its OMG. lmao
Say what you want about me but you know I’m telling the truth.

I had to qoute you instead of just responding, your post is fantastic, I though I was the only one who was appaulled by this constant belittling of black woman on this site from the Beyonce’s to the baby mama we perpetuate our own stereotypes and this is from a site that I thought was suppose to celebrate us and our fabulosity. Willie Lynch’s work runs deep, but there are a few of us who know.
Wed, August 6, 2008 12:46 PM
TASHA ARE YOUR PICTURES PHOTOSHOPPED? BECAUSE IF YOU LOOK UP ANY PICTURES YOU HAVE POSTED EVER ON BEYONCE THEY ALL LOOK THE SAME, I DON’T SEE ANTHING DIFFERENT, INFACT MOST PICTURES THAT I SEE ON THIS SITE OF MOST CELEBRITIES LOOK BOTH LIGHTER/DARKER THAN THEY REALLY ARE.

I’m just a pissed with people talking about her like that, but to be honest, Rihanna, Ciara and Jennifer Hudson are being talked about in this manner all the time, not as widely as Beyonce, but their a close second (same goes for Kim Kardashian though she isnt black, Mariah Carey, anytime a non-black woman is seen with a black man).
Why do these people even give her all this importance if they don’t like her?? Now Im a Beyonce fan, but I dont like the stans either. Haters and stans are both guilty, spewing out their anger every step of the way!
At least this isnt like Sandrarose or MediaFAKEout who tell LIES about everyone (including Beyonce), but its sad that YBF readers carry that same ignorant mentality, despite this being one of the best black gossip blogs around.

I PERSONNALY dont care about the “photoshop” ad,HAVE U SEEN MADONNA HARD CANDY COVER?? evrybody doing that what i don’t understand is why celebrities promote things the don’t use, or dont like just to make money
how can u promote L’oreal when ure hairstylist admit that she uses keracare that is why i don’t understand
u know how skin, hair, and make up are important for a women so i just think is sad that rite now everyone is ready to promote
hair,skin,products that they dont use
i dont blame beyoncé cuz everyone is doing that this day…MONEY WOULD MAKE PEOPLE DO EVRYTHING

B, I hear you. Beyone is a megastar because she celebrates whiteness. Period. I happen to like her simply for the fact that she never got breast implants. But let’s be real. A chocolate sister will never break through like Bey has. Lauryn Hill was an exception — and that’s why we all mourn her disappearance — she was gonna break the mold. There will always be a place in the entertainment stratosphere for light skinned black women who glorify white beauty. In another time, Beyonce would be singing backup to Angie Stone — but that time is over.
Wed, August 6, 2008 1:42 PM
Guys…we really should not be surprised…if you start paying closer attention to the tv commercials for this product in which she is featured you’ll notice nary a brown person in her midst. It’s a racist ad trick…it makes her appear less black…therefore more “acceptable” and “mainstream”…according to the powers that be…Same thing with Michael Jordan and his commercials…they may throw one brwon kid in the mix…the others are white…with speaking parts and what not… I’m all about us going the dang thing…but we need to insist on more of a voice and presence when it comes to advertising…those types of ads just set us back.

WAAAAKKKKE UPPPPPP! WAAAAAAAKKKKKEEE UUUUUUUUUUUUP!
1. Beyonce did not photoshop this picture
2. I doubt Beyonce has even seen this picture (she will now that EVERYONE is having such a fit over it.)
3. Beyonce is not the first black artist to be brightened or photoshopped to make her race more ambiguous.
4. Why is everyone acting like Beyonce is so dark skinned in the first place?
5. Wake Up PEOPLE! Why is Beyonce the chosen one to carry the weight of the demise of Black Culture on her shoulders. While we’re sitting here ripping her apart, letting out our repressed agression on the state of the black community (which I think is completely overblown, considering that almost everyone posting has contributed to it), L’Oreal is sitting pretty (NOT GIVING A FUCK!).
Wed, August 6, 2008 2:47 PM
I am sorry, but that is ridiculous! I have always respected Beyonce’s hustle ’cause she gets her paper, and has crossed over to be a mega star…but she crossed the line on this one. If she such a mega star and so comfortable and they love her so much, they should be able to display her as she is….not as whitey wants her. Her little dolls and wax figures were pushing it, but she might as well say that’s a wrap on her being black. Oh Beyonce…come back, girl!Don’t be like Mike…MJ, that is.
Wed, August 6, 2008 2:54 PM
It just doesn’t make sense; black folks are hands down THE coolest race on the planet; everyone wants to be a part of “our culture”; they want our bodies, our music, our talents, our country, our skin tones, but then pulls one of these reverse psychology subliminal numbers. The media takes hold of one of our own black beauties & configures her into this concoction?
Hmm. :-\

Wed, August 6, 2008 3:18 PM
As much as some of you would like to hate her, and as peculiar as some of her habits may be…Beyonce has done so much for black female entertainers in the music industry. There is a reason why most black female artists in the industry (mary j, keyshia, Monica, Ciara–hell, even Oprah and Tyra) respect Beyonce (And yes, they actually respect her), because she CHANGED the pop/R&B game. Her work ethic is admirable, AND despite all of the shit talking, she continues to keep it all in the family. It’s unfortuante that she had to do it by personifying an image that is (stereotypically) associated with white women, but it WORKED and she’s making MILLIONS of dollars off of it. Now we have artist like Rihanna taking it to another level (but don’t forget what Rihanna looked like when she first came out). I know Bey has her faults, and to some extent, I believe she lets herself be manipulated to make a buck, but atleast we have somebody (even though that somebody wears a “few” blonde lacefronts just about every day) that represents us with more class than I’ve seen from any of the other pop/r&b divas nowadays.
Wed, August 6, 2008 3:20 PM
This is a tragedy. Beyonce looks like a man playing dress up. I will never EVER understand the purpose of so much photoshop. Heck, her nose isn’t even that long. That’s just all wrong. I love B but she needs to start speaking up. I don’t care how money hungry you are sometimes you have to make a stand and so NO!
Wed, August 6, 2008 3:27 PM
Wow. I am not sure of Bey has seen this photo, but if she does I am hoping she would be just as dumbfounded as we all are. Yeah, we know Bey is of light complexion but she is not this light….not even close. Loreal….really? Why would you choose a black woman as to represent your products and then make her look more like Jennifer Anniston on this ad? WTF

Wed, August 6, 2008 4:06 PM
YOu are sooo right!
Wed, August 6, 2008 4:16 PM
If this had been any other female artist besides Bey there would not be this discussion,I agree with whomever said no one says anything about J-Hud or anyone else photoshopped on covers to look thinner, and ALL celebrities black, white, asian etc are airbrushed ten times over to be made to look how the companies want them to look.everybody always got something to say when it’s Beyonce,I’ve seen tons of female celebrities airbrushed ten times over, but again no one says anything about that.Bey is light anyway even without makeup on…I’ve seen her recently walking down the street with Jay-Z and it appeared to me that she was not wearing any makeup. She was,is and will always be pretty, she was ever since she was a little girl..but I guess most people can’t accept that, always trying to make excuses for her natural beauty..so what if she is photoshopped it’s only a picture..she’s beautiful in real life,it’s not like she needs to be photoshopped.
creole aint a race its a cultural dialect presumbly in the carribean since when is it used to describe people of mixed race
This is true, but in America, Creole’s refer to a culture of people, mainly from Louisiana. These people are still classified as black because of the one drop rule and most of the ones I know claim black, not other. Creole means something different in the carribean and in Africa.

doesn’t she look like Angelina Jolie on this pic? ..
Wed, August 6, 2008 6:41 PM
Its wrong for us to sit here and claim it was Beyonce and her camp said that it was okay for them to release this picture. Loreal took the pic and they photoshoped it. They messed up her whole facial structure, on the left side of her cheek they added a shadow effect to make her face look slimmer. She probably saw the pic after she took it and said its okay but after that its out of her hands and they can do what they want with it.
Wed, August 6, 2008 6:44 PM
That ad is horrible. But who says Beyonce had any input in what they put out? She’s just a model for them. I’m sure she doesn’t have as much say as people think. She probably just shows up and poses. A lot, if not all of the editing and touch up work is done post production, post shoot.
Loreal should be ashamed of themselves. And whoever okay’ed it should be fired.
If it comes out that Bee had anything to do with this ad, okaying it, then she will have lost a fan.
Wed, August 6, 2008 6:56 PM
Told ya’ll I couldn’t stand Beyonce…this is unacceptable.
Wed, August 6, 2008 7:10 PM
Where is Papa when you need him. This is some stupid ish right here no no maam. Don’t mess around and get black balled, you better no who your audience is.

NO they can’t do what they want. I’m hoping that Beyonce’s camp hasn’t seen this photo yet and it’s just a misunderstanding. Beyonce controls her image so if she wants the ad pulled they’ll pull it because at this point it’s her IMAGE they’re tampering with. I don’t think Lo’real wants to loose her as a spokeswomen plus this would backfire on them.

….she should be ashamed for this ….

Why is it so hard for this chic to accept she is black.Even if it is photoshopped you could not put me on the cover of a magazine with a lighter skin tone than i have. She is a light skinned black woman but not a white woman and this definitely looks like a white woman. And i am not even gonna comment on the hair.
Wed, August 6, 2008 7:54 PM
Damn. This Bitch get everything she want. She been wishing she was white, and now her wish has come true. Get cho big powder on my face looking boy ass outta here! LOL LOL LOL. These Beyonce Bootlickers are about to charge at my ass! LOL

My real name is Loreal. This cosmetic line has utterly disgusted me. Beyonce’ I believe has a say so on what gets published. If she allows this….this….foolishness to be published than she needs help. She’s already crossed over it’s okay Bee,…do you we got your back. We remember your color when you were singing NO NO NO. Now I’m telling Beyonce this look is deff a No No
Wed, August 6, 2008 8:23 PM
whether they photoshopped her picture or not, someone in her camp had to approve the shot. it’s a shame really.
Wed, August 6, 2008 8:26 PM
Nicole Kidman!!!
Wed, August 6, 2008 8:44 PM
This is pathetic…. Beyonce I know you wish you were born Latina (yes she said this in the Latina most beautiful issue) but you weren’t… You were born a black woman. Embrace your blackness and stop trying to run away and dye your hair blond, wear lace fronts, bleach your skin and thin your lips and get nose jobs. Realize you are black.
Wed, August 6, 2008 9:15 PM
She just wants to be white.Loreal test on animals anyways and their racist.Next.

The only reason she with a black mutherfucker like that walrus face ass jay z is because his mouth is bigger than his whole head, so he probably give good head. Otherwise, her ass would be married to a fucking Mario Lopez or some fucking body. LOL Shut the fuck up. Getting on here trying to be fucking ms. know it all. Go learn how to spell behavior.

I swear some of ya’ll are overly critical sometimes. All I see is Beyonce without a tan. That girl is high yella and damn near white like her mama without a tan. Add that to the bright ass lighting directly on her face/hair, and this is what you get. A friend of mine saw her and Jay in person before and thought Jay was with a white girl. LOL!
I don’t understand why everyone is so mad about it. You can’t change that girl’s complexion no matter how much shit you talk about her. Be mad over something you can change like the AIDS pandemic in Africa and Black America.

Heeeeey, are lightskins not brown people anymore?! :(
Okay, Beyawnce does have fair skin…but COME-ON. *scrolls back up*…She’s not WHITE! This picture is utterly and ridiculously photoshopped! And I know she gave the idiots permission to ship the image out to the public, which means she’s accepting that bull. That picture doesn’t even look like her, it looks like a transvestite in a lacefront. And not to bring Rihanna up…hell, I’m bringing her up…even her ad for Cover Girl, she has color. And she’s LIGHTER than Beyonce!
Ain’t no way in hell Rihanna is lighter than Beyonce. Have you seen them next to each other? Even with a tan Bey is lighter than Rih Rih
Thu, August 7, 2008 12:46 AM
Yours is the first comment that made sense and that I agreed with.

Honestly, you’re making yourself look worse AND you’re proving her point. How can you say all of this about a woman you don’t even know? You, nor I, know the REAL Beyonce Knowles, so you can’t comment on what she’s like or what you think she is or does. Beyonce has never given me the inclination that she doesn’t want to be black. She’s always talking about how she wants to continue paving the way for African American women in the industry/Hollywood and I believe she’s sincere. She celebrates her curvy figure because, as she says, “alot of black women look like this and I’m proud to be one of them”. She chose a black man because she loved him and maybe that’s her preference. If she wanted someone other than Jay-Z I’m sure she would’ve gotten someone other than him.

LoL! Okay, it’s clear L’Oreal’s target audience is White people. I mean of course there isn’t anything we can do about it, but they tried to take away her ethnicity. Why did they even use Beyonce? As someone said earlier whatever group of people responsible for this…their complex is not my problem. Does L’Oreal even have Black customers? If this was an idea to attract Black customers by showing Beyonce with an oh so obvious wig…what a big step. But they still slimmed her nose. (sigh) I can’t find excuses…pitiful.

Thu, August 7, 2008 10:45 AM
Let this be a lesson to all black people and celebrities!!! Why didn’t Beyonce do an ad campaign with an AFRICAN American owned hair company? I’m sure Carol’s Daughter, Luster’s, Kizure (and the list goes on) would have signed her on! Money circulates in the AFRICAN American community ONLY ONCE before it leaves. Other races (such as the Jews and Asians) money circulates 8-12 (sometimes even more times) before it leaves their communities. That’s because AFRICAN Americans do not invest in their own people. We really need to wake up!!! It’s 2008 and were still doing the same sh*t!!!!!! It’s sooo sad.
Thu, August 7, 2008 10:53 AM
Beyonce: Now that’s what I call greed. Pure greed. Probably Papa Knowles is thinking differently but that family is slowly going down in my expectations.
Secondly, 1) why on earth would you support a product that can only be used on European hair 2) correct me if I’m wrong, but they didnt want to be seen using too many models of colour? 3) and doesnt she wear a wig, so doesnt that defeat the object of the whole advertising campaign?
Beyonce’s voice is pure and outstanding. For that reason, she should be seen supporting a product that reflects her as a human being. Hence my earlier ‘pure greed’ comment.
It’s all becoming quite confusing…
P.S On a different but somewhat similar note, I’m noticing that quite a few of these high profile artistes are desperately trying to make themselves more European looking.. ie. the hair gets lighter and longer plus the skin tone all of a sudden becomes lighter with bright red rouge on the cheeks.
Thu, August 7, 2008 10:56 AM
Oh, and I forgot. L’Oreal was found guilty racial discrimination after it sought to exclude non-white women from selling its shampoo. They recruited women on the basis of race. So basically we cannot sell their products but they use an AFRICAN American spokes woman (Yes, I know Beyonce is confused but she’s still an AFRICAN American) to sell it to us!!! That’s funny. We really need to own our own businesses and we need to stop asking for others crumbs.
Thu, August 7, 2008 11:41 AM
Just goes to show, not even the “pretty Colored girls” are pretty enough to these people, light or dark skin. Until a couple of generations fall off, we will NEVER be pretty on the same level as Carrie Underwood or Scarlett Johansson. We’ll be “voluptuous”, “exotic”, “thick” instead of just plain beautiful.
Thu, August 7, 2008 11:46 AM
I hear ya. But we no longer stress the importance of investing within your own community in an attempt to globalize. I am all for conducting business across nations and races, but I bet you that Whites, Asians, Latinos, Indians, etc. invest in their own people first.

I’ve had my fall Elle magazine for days now and I looked at it for the 3rd time and only b/c of the press this ish is receiving, I was finally able to realize that it was Beyonce Knowles Carter. I breezed right pass her with no interest to see who is this chick. Shame, Shame and Shame for her and the folks behind her.
Come on, no one wants to look that white/pale, the market is full of bronzers for all skin tone. She has been a suspect NUT (walking out with those ugly weave and wigs) to me now it’s confirmed.
Sun, August 10, 2008 1:35 AM
I really don’t know why anyone would be surprised by this. White people have been white-washing blacks for years. If you notice they try to lighten almost all black celebrity in photos because they secretly wish they were the ones with talent. A century from now no ones going to even know that they were black people, especially with all those European weaves and wigs. Shame on us all!!!!!
Sun, August 10, 2008 12:07 AM
Offended, why? Beyonce has never been the type of celebrity to stand up for something of substance. Getting money has always been the objective. You will not see her picture on the box of Dark N Lovely because they are not offering the same amount of money or more. Her work speaks to her character. She is not of substance…only a tool. So basically, Loreal can photoshop her until she’s completely white with platinum blond hair and European facial features, the check was cashed long ago.
Being Latina is independent of one’s skin color. Latinos come in all races. Using myself as an example I am a latino person of african decent because I am from a country in latin american called costa rica.
Beyonce may be latino, creole or whatever other label she may assign to herself. What we all know regardless of photoshop is she most definately black. I love beyonce. The good thing about being an international superstar is your image is so incredibly salient that something like bright lights, hair dye, or photoshop cannot make you unrecognizable.

L’Oreal was sued in the courts in Paris for discrimination against not hiring black models for one of their campaigns. This does not surprise me, but it surprises me that Beyonce is still doing business with them. People need to know who they are doing business with. Research ladies, research.
Offended, why? Beyonce has never been the type of celebrity to stand up for something of substance. Getting money has always been the objective. You will not see her picture on the box of Dark N Lovely because they are not offering the same amount of money or more. Her work speaks to her character. She is not of substance…only a tool. dont understand what do u talking about cuz dark and lovely belongs to l’oreal.SO IM sure that when she got a proposition for L’oreal she could easily said that would rather have a deals with dark and lovely, and they probably gave her the same chek that she received for l’oreal
bu the things is l’oreal brings more diversity when its come to the products,so i dont understand why she choose to promote hair products and make up when obviously hair products by l’oreal dont work on our hair ( most of the time),she could choose to promote only make up …
ANYWAY like every celebrities she promotes things she don’t use,,,at least promote dark and lovely would be more logical but she’s still not using this products on her hair according to her hair stylist
plus i dont thnik that beyoncé was hiring as a black model of l’oreal!!they choose her because she was pretty ,famous but also because if u dont know her u can’t tell that her origin LIKE maybe she’s from west indies,or cuba,or bresil, they choose her to be like the kinda girl u cant define, that why the black and the latinos can relate to her so does the white who have a mix of different origins in their blood
i think L’oreal choose her for this reason

YUP the main goal for l’oreal is to have women who are a representation of ALL the woman.EVA LONGORIA = the latinos and the brunette, the spanish,or portugesh, charlize theron =the white, the blond and the south african…
HAVE U seen the indian actress who promote l’oreal? she’s only here to represent the indian, but she also looks like an arabic woman too.AND I TRULY doubts that lots of women in india looks like her…
L’oreal goals is to choose women that u can’t fit it one category,so they can touch much more people!!
that’s only the key of goood marketing
why should they promote black people with l’oreal when they have mizani, dark and lovely and soft sheen and carson?
Sun, August 10, 2008 11:41 AM
w!!! I am really surprised at her!!! I thought she had a great life, is she changing???
Sun, August 10, 2008 1:03 PM
You guys, I don’t get all of the hype about this. Bey had a nose job years ago. This ain’t new. All this ad shows is her w/a lighter and super straight wig on. In terms of her skin, I see no change in her skin tone at all. I will say that she looks significantly thinner than normal in this pic. That may be airbrushing or her fluctuating weight. Having actually seen her up close and personal, she looks the same as usual in this pic to me. Stop trying to make this a issue and calm down w/the light skin dark skin stuff. That’s an old issue that isn’t going to get us anywhere as a people trying to focus on it. We need to rise above that drama and focus on more significant issues in our community!
Sun, August 10, 2008 1:16 PM
Hey People Before we jump and say this and that remmber that we are beautiful peole that have very unique skin tones. With the right lightin, and change of hear color, yes! I do believe that this pic may not have been altered. But on the real it took a lot of light and very blonde hair for them to pull this off.
Sun, August 10, 2008 5:50 PM
To be honest, I dont think this pic is that bad. I would off the bat know that this wasnt a white woman. I know my black sistahs!! And that girl is def a Black Woman, hence Beyonce. Whatever let them brighten it. Come on sistahs, do we really use L’Oreal? I know I dont. Im a Str8 Motions and Dark and Lovely. Next.
Sun, August 10, 2008 8:04 PM
I’m in advertising and I can tell you this has little to do with Beyonce and a lot to do with creative directors and editors. Beyonce was probably not aware of the photoshopping, until is went to print.
Sun, August 10, 2008 9:29 PM
WOW!! I don’t like the picture either, but I highly doubt Beyonce had anything to do with it. And to think that she did is just plain silly. If anything, she should be upset too because it basically says she’s not good enough the way she is, so someone thought they would give her a “touch-up”. WOW!
Sun, August 10, 2008 10:25 PM
First, her nose looks way more prominent in this picture than any other pic I have researched–and no, I’m not a stan. As far as the lighting, she does usually look tanned, but it could be due to the make-up artists and the photographers lighting.

My intention was to answer the question posted by Natasha. My thoughts on the ‘whitening of Beyonce’. Basically it don’t matter which division of Loreal presented the contract…that does not matter. My point is that Beyonce does not give a rats ass about what Loreal does to her image, that check has been cashed, so why should the people? People probably should not be offended by the tactics of Loreal, they are business people…whatever.

ok so she like money [dont act like yall dont]
& no she aint do DARK & LOVELY
sooooo what OPRAH aint doin dark & lovely either
anyways….. Yeah loreal is foul for putting out a picture of beyonce like this…. it doesnt do nothing for her
beauty wise….. & the fact that her hair is more blonde then some of the white models that campaign for them is disturbing……. but at the same time im 100% sure that B did not have anything to do with this
& just because she aint making a public statement about it does not mean she is not standing up for herself….
& i could understand why beyonce wished she was LATINA…
they have a cool culture background and they STAND by there people UNLIKE us BLACK FOLKS who continue to HATE and PUT one another DOWN!!
soooo yall need to stop HATING on MISS BEYONCE
she’s a talented person with morals
YALL just gotta find something negative about somebody when they doin better than yall…..[BLACK FOLKS]
how bout we talk about her contributions to others in need
rather than hate on her ads for LOREAL!!!!!!!!!

“I’MJUST CURIOUS ON HOW U PITCHIN A HAIR COLOR WHEN ALL U WEAR IS WEAVES….SCREW CURIOUS I’M JUST CONFUSED!”
LMAO- I just want to note that I saw this same post on another “predominately” white site and 199 of the 200+ comments said “what is the big deal about this” and chalked it up to simple and common airbrushing. and while YES ALL companies do airbrush celebrities to make them look MORE attractive its sad the “airbrush” deceided she would look more attractive if she looks more white. she looks better sans the ridiculous changes and in other l’oreal ads.
Mon, August 11, 2008 7:41 PM
I’MJUST CURIOUS ON HOW U PITCHIN A HAIR COLOR WHEN ALL U WEAR IS WEAVES….SCREW CURIOUS I’M JUST CONFUSED!
FYI she dont always wear weaves she wear her real hair on several occasions and if you could read you could see this ad is for HAIR COLOR and has nothing to do with weaves. 90% of celebs and women in general wear weaves so get the hell over the weave thing. most women wear weaves, its nothing new.
Mon, August 11, 2008 8:38 PM
Yo, typical, This is something that is very common in the black race, hispanics, even dark hispanics like myself grew up seeing that light skinned people were the “preferred”. I know a lot of black people that dont want to be with another black who is too dark! Come on people. Im tired of the subliminal notion of “being whiter” is being “prettier” Skip that . This is about money, and im sick of hearing about these rich fuckers. Oh and it looks like her real skin color but that hair, oh lord.
Tue, August 12, 2008 1:14 AM
i just like 2 say we i sall beyonce in concert (07), that girl is LIGHT!, very very light skin, i had great 2nd row seats so i sall her perectly, i dont noif it was the lights or what but she almost scared me on how light she realli is so i dont think any photoshop was done at all
Tue, August 12, 2008 10:29 AM
i just saw this ad in my current issue of Essence and to be honest the ad itself doesnt look THAT light. It looks like her natural skin tone. She is light. But….we all know how the general “public” prefers to see lighter skin people so i wouldnt doubt them to do something like lighten up a black female to the point she looks white.
and of course B issues her usual no comment..that itch is so fake its almost annoying. She good at what she does though…..
Tue, August 12, 2008 11:57 AM
Am I the only person who has noticed that it’s another model’s face they altered(photoshopped) to look like Bey!?
Her face is round…not square like the picture…and of course her nose is def. not that long, let alone that shape!
Case Closed!
Tue, August 12, 2008 9:47 PM
hate to say this, but i am a true Beyonce’ fanatic. There are really not many people like me except diagnosed psychopaths, i suppose. so as a Beyonce expert in fashion, body type, facial features, attitude, etiquette, food habits, diets/excercise routines, lovelife, ETC… i can firmly declare that image is not entirely Beyonce’s face. Either they took her eyes and skin color, and put them onto someone else’s or they photoshopped aka white washed her nose and jaw and cheeks. plainy put.
Wed, August 13, 2008 9:11 PM
Beyonc’e i like the new look forget the haters .. i guess they never seen you with straight straight hair Love it …
Wed, August 13, 2008 9:35 PM
Omfg! its a white wash by ‘THE MAN’!! Im white btw… She looks diff.. a ginger hotness lmfaoo ;DD x
Thu, August 14, 2008 6:14 PM
I think that she should have let them know that she is a beautiful yong BLACK women and that she will be portrayed as such.BUT the young people today have no pride in all the different shades of black so the lighter the whiter!!
