Tyra brought on all the models of Vogue Italia’s Black Issue to tape an episode of The Tyra Banks Show. The models were spotted on West 26th street in NY looking fabulous as ever.

Tyra donned her best wax figure look with her fresh crimped out lacefront and painted on makeup.

Model Beverly Johnson was there. And she’s still got it.

Chanel Iman looked fab even though chick looks like she’ll break a leg stepping up on a curb.
More pics of the models and new music from Michelle when you read the rest…

Model Noemie Lenoir was there looking gorgeous.

So was Selita. Loving this whole look.

Model Stacy McKenzie was there.

Toccara was looking fab too.

And a pic of all the models–including Jessica White.

Check out Michelle’s 3 newest tracks off her upcoming album Unexpected:
The album is now set to drop October 16th.

Tyra looks soooooooooo fake in the 4th pic! Damn, she is always checking girls on ANTM for smiles like that. I’m sorry tyra but with that smile “You will not be America’s Next Top Model, So please proceed to your room and get your things.”
Tue, August 12, 2008 5:06 PM
You know what…Tyra looks just like a packaged barbie! Wow…and thats kind of scary! I mean her eyes, smile, brushed side burns, skin tone and all! Wow!
Tue, August 12, 2008 5:07 PM
I can not find that issue of Vogue for the life of me. I want it for my babies when I have some. Hopefully by then these types of issue won’t be so rare and there will be a dark skinned girl on the page somewhere, not African just dark.
I am also geeked about the issues of Essence and Ebony featuring the Obamas. I’ll be saving these for my babies too.
I heart Tyra. She is crazy, but at least she is consistent.

I can’t understand having money and then not being able to eat!!!!!!!! That must be horrible! You have the money to go to the snazziest restaurants, you have the oppurtunity to go worldwide & exotic places but you can’t dine there because can’t NOBODY tell me that they are skinny from exercising.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW@the crimped look, I haven’t seen it in YEARS!! Damn musta been nearly a decade ago when that was in style. Maybe Tyra’s tryna bring it back or something.
Love to see our models making their mark. PROOF that we can sell, only thing is whitey don’t want us to be promoted cause they know we would looks better than those pale pancake butt long back, stringy hair fast ageing white broads. Vogue and the industry in general should take notice of this landmark and start diversifying to reflect how INTERNATIONAL fashion is!!!!!! It’s a wig that has a skin like piece in the front that they actually glue down on your forehead, so then you have to get that piece in the front to blend in with your skin or the make-up that your wearing. That’s why most of these chicks who wear it don’t have no hair around their hairline! I think you can youtube it though, put in applying or putting in a lacefront weave, then you’ll see.

Yes the one in the purple dress — she looks white to me…..? :\ Was SHE is vogue’s Black Issue???
Tue, August 12, 2008 6:19 PM
I agree… WEAVE OVERLOAD-I REPEAT-WEAVE OVERLOAD!!! I know women love hair, it’s just an accessory, it’s fun, it’s playful. BUT, it’s too much. And the white girls do it too, so I’m speaking to them too, but particularly US. The myth that our hair grows slow is just that – a myth, or the excuse celebrities love – a la Gabby Union and such “Oh I just wear the weave to let my hair breathe, it grows so fast with the weave…” Girl, BYE. If your hair grew so fast why are you still wearing the weave 7 years later?? It’s lazy and triflin. lol. I wore a weave for 2 years and it was nice and all but one day I was like I want ME back. 100% me. I’m just sayin. Are you gonna wear it your whole life?? Men like to see our *faces*. And long hair is sexy at times, but it’s just too much! Using all these tools just to look like Jessica Simpson or somebody, glue, lace, clips, pliers, tape, concealer, thread, needles, … GOODNESS! Thank GOD Rhihanna has counteracted some of the weave overload with her short cut inspiring some sistas to just be themselves!!
Tue, August 12, 2008 6:19 PM
Stacy McKenzie looks like Rachele ferrell. I kinda like it. Tyra always looks plastic, like she’ll melt near a high flame…is that what ya’ll mean when you say she looks like a doll? Noemie Lenoir looks like Julissa in that pic, no? When i look at that last pic, Tocarra and the sista on the left in the brown dress are looking the lovliest (IMO). Selita and stacey, I must say ladies, it is wonderful to see sistas wear real hair. I am so over hairweaves and wigs (when did they stop being 4 old balding ladies?)!!! And the f###ing blond bullish…oh no! Maybe when Mrs. Obama is first lady we’ll be proud to be African descendants…

Yes,girl. Just, yes… :)
LOL! I choped my hair off four years ago( I got flack for it because my permed hair was long) Now it falls pass my shoulders with no perm! all our hair needs is a good deep conditioner. when i want my hair straight(which rarely happens) I wash and hot iron it real good! I think weave is silly, especially when most women wearing it on the street look tacky.

good for you BMW!!! Although i’m not natural anymore (I had a very good 6 year run plus 1 year in hs) i can attest to its benefits and ultimate beauty. you’re right; it’s all about taking care of your hair (‘400 Years Without a Comb’ speaks to this)-my hair was so unadulterated without chemicals plus i could do so much with it :) hair is so fun!

Does anyone know the name of the plus sized model posing with Beverely Jonhson ? please and thank you …
Toccaras wig looks like a wig
Chanel Iman is stunning
Tyra looks like a life size doll
Selitas shoes are HOTT

Growing up i heard so many excuses about our “bad hair”, i thought something was wrong with me. Always taught that “good hair” was better, that you’d better rock a pan fried rusty ass looking piece with your hair pasted with “car grease” than go outside with that bad hair exposed. Black hair is the shit. I think its time to give ourselves a re-education.

I thought fashion models were supposed to be over-the-top beautiful. Is this the best that Vogue can do when it comes to black models?! Yes… most of them are pretty, but they look like average, everyday women…. size and all!

I’m so happy to read all these comments about sisters embracing their NATURAL REAL hair! I stopped killing my hair with chemicals 6 years ago and now I have the most beautiful locs! Hair used to be stressful for me growing up…and now…I can’t stop touching it! Lol.
I’m sounding like a commercial..but for real, I hope more black woman will stop allowing themselves to being brainwashed into ideas about what “good” hair is. Clean, HEALTHY hair IS good hair! God gave us this hair for a reason–it suits our faces!!!
And P.S. Chanel Iman looks borderline anorexic :(. And this is coming from someone who’s a size 4!

END OF STORY, ENOUGH SAID!!! Im actually quite disappointed with the petty nit-picking and overall unnecessary negative comments. . .I give praise where praise is due, and i must say these sisters DESERVE it!!! Black is beautiful!! Im sorry and i may get ish for this, but u can get a flock of white models together and they will PALE IN COMPARISON!!! (no pun intended) Lets celebrate our unique and untouchable beauty!!!!

Thanks BMW for your tips on hair. However, since the beginning of time Black women, who ruled in Egypt and in Africa, have worn wigs. In Egyt Queens like Cleopatra and Nefertiti would shave off their real hair to wear the creations that was a symbol of power and being rich. Royalty were the only people to wear wigs back then. Reading is fundamental by the way…you might learn a thing or two, other than what Rhianna is doing what her hair, and what type of statement she is making for others to follow her and cut off their hair. Also, wearing a weave right require more time and money than taking care of your real hair. Not only that, you have to treat your hair even more!!! Which is a hassel onto its self, especially if you have hair.
Also, Rhianna like any other entertainer, is just that. An entertainer. And trust me, when she put a new CD out, she will be looking for a new look to promote her CD…and don’t be surprised if SHORT is not IN when she does.
And that is Beverly Johnsons daugher Anansa.

I’m so unimpressed with the vogue “black shoot. They all look like clone barbies with major tans. Where are the real black women, peoples, where are the real black women with natural hair? The only one looking a bit more real is Stacey McKenzie but I’ve been a fan of hers from day dot because she always brings the realness.

YAWN@ all the women bragging about their natural hair! The bottom line is you like natural hair and other’s don’t! What the heck makes you better for embracing your natural hair? You all sound like natural born haters! I LOVE weaves…I LOVE relaxing my hair…does that make me any less of a black woman..or does that mean I do not embrace my culture? Give me a break and get off your soapbox!
Wearing weaves now equates to hate of black hair? That sounds so uneducated to me because black hair comes in so many different lengths and textures.
Since you want to be so da*m natural take it all the way back…denounce anything European including clothing and research what you think your people are wearing in Africa and get some clothes made and rock those.

There was an article in Ebony about 2 months ago regarding Asians that sold weaves to blk women. It talked about how Asian beauty supply houses owners do not even LIVE in the blk community, but they make a TON of money selling to the black community.

I know! lol! and black folks line up to get that hair! it’s shame! I can’t believe I’m being attacked on the truth! I only know a handful of black women who rock their real hair! if it wasn’t such a problem we wouldn’t read about the wig crypt in the black magazines and online! black women have a hate relationship with our hair! it started from childhood! most black peoples hair do not fall unless they have mixed ancestor! we are african! our hair is not meant to be stringy! I remember when a fresh perm and weave made my day( I had loads of hair in my head without the weave) the sad part about weave, is that most women can’t leep it up! you know what I’m talking about ladies. You jell down the edges, you take a curling iron to the back to flat out the tracks because your real hair is growing out! I love this one, when the tracks start comeing out and you get that smelly glue! lol! I know because I did it! Keep on makeing ming lee rich people!

I am so tired of hearing “lacefront” It’s thrown out there like it’s a fad and unless you have one, your…. You can tell the ones that are young and don’t have anything… Lacefronts are not new, not new at all. Wearing a wig or weave is an addiction. I’m serious. It shouldn’t matter as long as your hair is on point, like mine. HA!

Can I say that sistahs of all shapes and hues are making a comeback. First, Vogue Italia and next, let Michelle Obama become first lady. ‘Bout time we chip away at the negative-imaging-job that this world has done one us since day one, with skin-color racism and mass media operating from within it. Sistahs have either been jezebels or mammies throughout US history. Now it’s ’bout time we (re)insert ourselves into what it means to be beautiful, glamorous, and desirable around the globe. We’ve always affirmed ourselves and our little girls, but it’s ’bout time to continue to break ground in mass media – and we should not settle until the effects of every negative or less than desirable image of Black women throughout the Diaspora has been completely turned on its head.
How about the reality that one day little black girls and boys won’t choose the “white doll” as more beautiful or good.

THANK YOU AnotherNatasha!
Personally, I think it’s almost kinda sad that all the Black models look like poor imitations of white girls. They probably don’t see it this way, but all of them there together with 6 tons of fake white hair, several of them blonde, no less, 12 pounds of makeup that doesn’t even match their skin tone, just lookin’ phony as hell and not a true representation of black women. Yes, I know, a few are biracial, but come on people, what’s wrong with black features or black hair? I seriously think there is some serious self-hate going on.

The model in the purple dress who looks white is Anna Cleveland. She is the daughter of Pat Cleveland one of the fiercest and more successful Black models back in the day. She is also extremely light, which is why she was so successful; her color didn’t offend whites so much. Actually, that is Pat in the pink pantsuit standing in front of Anna.

Most of y’all are some haters. Bitch and moan about not having enough black models then they give us an entire issue devoted to black models and now they’re not black enough? “Too skinny, too big, too weaved up, too light, damn if some of y’all ain’t the most self-hating, low-self esteem having, embarrasment to our entire race group of women I don’t know who is. Some of you are just so ignorant its ridiculous. All these women are beautiful and doing their thing so shut up. No other race has to “keep us down”, its people like some of y’all who continue to keep black people down every day with your disgusting hatred and ignorance towards your own people. There is nothing wrong with being skinny and nothing wrong being fat, as long as your healthy do your thing. I have a cousin who is skinny like Chanel and she eats like a horse, she has low self-esteem because people tease her about being boney. It goes both ways you assholes, so the same way you praise a big girl and down a skinny girl or vice versa think about it. Ab or whoever the hell you are, promoting any kind of image is wrong, you should be worried about promoting being who you are no matter what your size is. I know plenty of women who are like that who are perfectly normal, the same way Ive seen 300 pound women who are normal, educate yourself you dumb bitch and dont you ever make fun of somebody because of what they look like you ignorant asshole.

Can someone please tell Tyra the 80’s fashions made a comeback but not the hairstyles.Crimps I mean c’mon her hair is always a tragic mess.
Wed, August 13, 2008 9:15 AM
All of the women big and small are fierce. Regarding Chanel, I seen a documentary on her and she’s natrually skinny. I have a girlfriend who is like that, tall and thin and eats more than enough, but yet the only thing that gets big is her stomach and a few crunches takes care of that.
I can’t even hate on any of these women, they have all of the variety which demonstrates balck is beautiful in all shapes forms and colors. Oh yeah and must I add, the kicks these chicks are rocking are CRACK in a box.
One last thing Iman is BEAUTIFUL. Glad to be who I am, I’ll age gracefully as well. Work!!! !!!!
I
yea i just scrolled up and re-read those comments. . .STR8 hateration!!!! smh
Sweety, learn to LOVE the kinky hair it IS BEAUTIFUL. IT IS TIME FOR BLACK WOMEN TO STOP WEARING weaves and wear their own hair for once!! Wearing weaves does NOT make you less black at all.
@once again
Do not be mad a Rihanna for not wearing a horse on top of her head.
Ok, first off, dont “sweetie” me. . .I find it demeaning and belittling, we aint friends. . .Secondly, im not sure how this post turned into weave bash. . .The point of the matter is that black women are finally being universally recognized for the beauty that we’ve long been ignored for. That “sweetie”, is what I was getting at. Learn to look past the “flaws” that you think you see, and give praise where praise is due. The least you could do as a fellow black women is give these women, who have revolutionized the modelling industry and changed the beauty aesthetic, the praise that they so truly deserve. DAMN!!! again, smdh
p.s. U know absolutely nothing about me, so u have absolutely no cause to tell me what i do and dont need to accept. I LOVE my hair; wore it natural till i was 19. However, i also appreciate the various looks that black women, with their plethora of tones, colors, shapes and sizes can so effortlessly pull off. If she’s wearing a weave, more damn power to her. To each his own, we are all entitled to do whatever we choose with OUR OWN DAMN heads. I really dont understand. It doesnt in any way take away from your “blackness” or your “beauty” so what is the flippn issue?? My comment still stands, str8 hateration!!!

Also, Rhianna like any other entertainer, is just that. An entertainer. And trust me, when she put a new CD out, she will be looking for a new look to promote her CD…and don’t be surprised if SHORT is not IN when she does.
And that is Beverly Johnsons daugher Anansa.

are we in egypt now! the whole royalty thing is in my history book, it’s not part of the present! I spend less money on my hair being natural comapared to it being very long and permed. Entrtainers wear weaves because of the styles they have to rock, and we all know black hair does not do well with too much blow drying and heat! did you read about that in a current book! lol! I can’t believe you bhrought up the wig crypt fron the B.C. age, Lawd girl! ha ha ha ha ha I guess wearing a lace front makes you a queen in the present day! I prefer NOT to read about the history of weave. I would rather read educational things. How does spending hundreds of dollars on weave less expensive than washing your on hair and putting cream in it?
LOL! I thought the same thing! is weave better because of the over priced value of it! I guess I have to read up on the history of the wig crypt! I just think that so many black women are obessed with weave to the point that they get mad when we talk about it because they know underneath all that mess is your real hair!
So what do you say to a person who perms their hair every 6 weeks…I have natural hair!!! No chemicles goin on 6 years, and I am loving it!!!! I think that is overload when I go into my stylist chair and I see nothing but this white plaster being put onto Black women’s scalp! Don’t get me wrong, I admire how Tyra has just taken such amazing control of her life but why does her smile always seem so forced and fake? Her smile in these pictures don’t come off as genuiune at all. She looks like her wax figure from Madame Tussaud’s. Wonder if it’s true about her impending engagement/wedding? Anyone seen the rock?
I love Selita’s new hair cut and those shoes are cute. I wonder what she thinks of the Mariah/Nick union…seems she shook them off with her locks. Smart move, kid.
Ms. Beverly is still working it! Show them young girls, how it’s done! I wonder if that’s her daughter, Anansa.
Toccaro looks beautiful! She is one smart cookie, she took what was given to her and made it work (not to quote Tim Gunn) and now who even remembers who won her cycle of ANTM? Nothing can stop God’s blessings, baby!
Chanel Iman needs to be locked up in a KFC for about a month!

Why are ALL the brown skinned models in the back???
Wed, August 13, 2008 2:27 PM
You know, I think a few of you are clearly missing the point. If you take a look at all the women lined up it is a pretty good representation of all the different shapes and shades that we come in. Of course they aren’t all going to be dark, or all light. I think the point is we aren’t African, we are African-American. It is something that can be argued to the end of time. The fact is though that we have been in America and it is ridiculous to think that, that wouldn’t haven’t influenced the way that we look. What some of you seem to have twisted is black women are never going to be just one thing. There is variety to us. That’s what we should be proud of and celebrating. Straight hair, curly hair, tightly curled hair, etc…. I have people in my family dark as night with baby fine hair and the ones that are light skinned have the some of the thickest roughest hair you’ll ever see. That was the point of Italian Vogue. To show our diversity. That’s what makes us beautiful and special. We exude such a broad range. Appreciate that.
Wed, August 13, 2008 3:24 PM
Tyra looks so damn FAKE! That hair on Beverly is killing me…and her too. Pic a new color and fit, Beverly. Never considered Toccara a model (not after the show atleast). Selita is pretty. Heck they’re all pretty. Damn BLACK ppl are so good looking no wonder we get hated on. “Anyone who hates you is just mad they aren’t you.”

Okay, but if you are lacefronting it…what is the damage? Your self image??? I am confused. In one end, its embrace your hair…then you have the people who love the straight look…okay, so they don’t perm their hair, they decide to do a wig…then they still have to hear people talk ish about them? I am really trying to figure out what is the point to this? We have to many strong Black women, Oprah, Maya Angelo, Dorothy Height, Michelle Obama, who use a straightening comb, flat iron, weave, etc. but they are still BLACK AND STRONG and make more money and have more power than all of us sitting here talking about ish that is not really relavant. Can’t a person, who is black, like their hair straight, without it being said they want to be white? And if they can’t then why are so many black women going to dreds…could it be because that is the only way their hair will grow past their shoulders??? I had a stylist once told me, when I decided to go natural, that I would never get my length back, unless I grew dreds. I said I don’t want dreds…6 years later, I have natural hair that comes to the middle of my back. She was shocked, and I was a little as well…however, when it is washed, it curls up so tight…and I get it blown out…and then a flat iron does the rest. I get more compliments than my counterparts who have dreds…from Black women, asian women, and white women. They told me the same thing! If I chop it off my hair will be short for the rest of my life! my hair grew like crazy! and my old stylist didn’t understand it either! my hair grew faster in its natural state compared to it’s permed state. I can’t believe a hair professional told me that my hair wouldn’t grow, that just shows that even the so called hair stylist know nothing about hair growth or health! I took care of my hair, and it grew like wild flowers. I never said straight hair was bad, I just claimed a perm and weave was bad. If people want to get mad about their weave crypt obession they can stay mad! I love my kinks and curls! I had one of my half sisters (she loves the weave) pull my hair when I got it flat ironed (at my sister’s request for her wedding), she couldn’t believe it! she was one of the people who also told me that I would regret it! now she just starrs at my hair wishing she had the same thing!

Beverly Johnson will always be an idol of mine but what is up with the blonde wig? We should just leave the white world of fashion and create our own…. displaying our various colors and body shapes.
Peace.
The women in Egypt that wore wigs didn’t do so cause they were conquered by Europeans. They (the Hierarcy) wore wigs because the were required to have clean heads (shaven due to initiation) and their wigs were styled like their hair texture meaning they were not trying to inmate anyone else. I have no “hate” for these sistahs, just wish that we didn’t have the need to process themselves to inmate anyone else’s standards of beauty…ya’ll got it twisted. I’m so sorry I days late on this because there’s alot of wrong infomation up in here!

Oh, and Cleopatra wasn’t Black and wasn’t to be honored! She was a very unattractive woman of Greek decent…thought you should know!

Cleopatra was black.. the lies that they tell us about her being partially greek is BS. Egyptians cut their hair because of lice, it was a preventive measure… Read people.. Read!! What greek is going around in a braid wig and gold? Don’t believe the lies! It is all written literally on the walls… brown/black people with gold and cornrows. Weaves are fine until women start wearing it to define themselves as being less black. I have a problem with women who hate themselves so much that they would put poison on their head despite the damage to make their hair straight. I have had it all..relaxer, braids, weaves…now back to natural but when I had a straight weave I was still black. The women who have their ends falling out all to keep a relaxer is crazy and then use a weave to cover up the damage is crazy. If you just choose to go straight with a weave for style sake..no problem but if you are doing it to cover up insecurities and damaged hair… you are nuts.

The lady w/ Bev Johnson is her daughter. She used to be a high fashion model but got tired of starving so she gained weight and just started plus size modeling.

Beverly’s feet are light because she golfs all summer wearing socks. The model with her is her daughter, Anansa. She’s signed with Wilhelmina Models and she never dated Kobe. She has her MBA and is coming out with her own plus size clothing line.
