    Video Fab: Brandy’s “Departed”

Brandy debuted her brand new video for “Departed” tonight. It’s been a minute since she’s really been on the scene with new music and videos. And it looks like B-Rocka is officially back. Tia Mowry’s husband Cory Hardricht is also featured in the vid. But back to Brandy, can we get a hand clap for her wig crypt keeper?

Oh I see corey Hardict - tia’s husband. I must say that I am not a fan of the song, but I remember playing it one morning on repeat (by mistake cos I was too lazy to walk to the computer and turn it off) and then going in for a grueling, grueling job interview and landed the job. So the song will have a place in my heart.

Brandy looks fab and sounds great. She doesn’t have to stand up to Bey. Bey has to stand up to her. Brandy is the legend with a music catalog that has and will continue to stand the test of time. Bey is cool. But , Bey is of the moment like fast food. When she’s out of sight her music is out of mind. Nothing much of her catalogue is worth listening too beyond the life of the cd. It’s all very time stamped, whereas Brandy, Mary J, Tamia,Janet, Mariah, Whitney’s, etc… music is timeless. Maybe, Bey will one day get out of get rich quick mode and really use her talents to put a body of work out that is of substance, not just geared for the top of the charts or big sales. I think she will mature to that level….one day. I hope it will be with the next cd. I do want to own something of Bey’s that I won’t be too embarrassed to play five years down the road. Right now I don’t own anything of hers because I am waiting for her to deliver quality over quantity.

Love Brandy. Do not like this song. Its good to see her back though. She looks beautiful and she brings class to the game. She definitely can rock a video without showing all of her worldly goods unlike some female artists I see (cassie) who has to do that sh*t in order to sell. and i agree with candice. Brandy and Beyonce is in two different ballparks. Beyonce is very outlandish, over the top, and very much an entertainer in the truest since of the word. (nothing wrong with that. i love to watch her perform) Whereas Brandy has a very laid back feel to her songs and her style. Always has. i hope that she does well and continues to remain a revelant part of the game. Again… glad to see her back.

I agree! I still rock ALL of Brandy’s music, and probably always will. I have Bey’s music, too, but I really don’t play those tracks because it seems so corny now. Brandy is timeless. She’s on a different level. I must say though, that there is room for both, so we don’t have to pin black artists against each other like this. There’s room for the booty shaking teen-driven music like Bey’s, and there’s also room for the more mature sound like Brandy’s. Brandy looks gorgeous in the video, by the way.

I love Beyonce and it is true her music is not timeless, just for the now but Beyonce will grow into her legend. It is room out there for both ladies. There are not to many brownskin beauties doing there thing and i support that 100%. I know it should not be a color issue but we have to admit black people are racist towards there own people. Sad but true but we could fix this. We need to support one another women so lets support them all even if we don’t care for them. Rihanna, Alicia, Mary, Eve, Kelly, Jill Scott, Brandy.

Brandy looks gorgeous but I don’t like the song. She’s gonna have to come harder than that if she wants to compete. I don’t like Bey’s music but she has a HUGE marketing machine that’s gonna make sure she stands out and stomps on the competition.

Who cares if Beyonce’s coming out with a new CD. It would be a very sad day when we as consumers only had the choice of 1 artist per slot to support. I always loved Brandy’s music, maybe not her personality so much though. There’s guarrantee that Beyonce’s CD is going to be any good either. Their being distributed basically through the same label, so lets just hope for the best for Brandy, or better yet go out buy what she’s putting out.

I mean, I can’t imagine Brandy thinking THAT high of herself to compare to God, so I’m going “Guardian Angel”.

dang, is it like the end of the world to mention beyonce without it FIRST being mentioned in the post? where is that written? tasha got an edit about that on the side? who the hell cares if someone brings up beyonce and she is not mentioned in this post? ppl act like beyonce’s name cost just to drop. like, how dare u say it! man, get outta here with that mess. ppl can say it whenever they want. it’s not about comparing to beyonce on a singing level moreso chart comparison cause no matter what music beyonce puts out, good or bad, it will sell cause she sells. but w/ other artist like brandy, tamia, monica and the likes that can actually sing their a$$es off–they don’t get the top of chart status like beyonce–so my opinion on ppl bringing up whollier than thou beyonce is that they wish it would be a chart topper like the way a beyonce song would shoot up, but this actually has substance. no knock to Beyonce.

How did Beyonce get injected into a conversation about Brandy. Brandy is in a class of her own that existed before Beyonce and will exist afterward. Acting, singing and writing. Remember Moesha. Beyonce would love to be there. Making more money from things will be Bey’s claim to fame. However, money at the price of kicking folks off the bus is not that great at all.

Now the song is interesting, however I am tuned out to sensitive songs now because everything is about a beat. I like the video and concept but I need to work on the song before I add it to my play list.

Why does everyone have to compare every female singer to Beyonce? Can’t they both just live and do what they love to do…SING? I am so sick of all the comparisons. I never have once heard Beyonce go off about anyone else’s music; comparing herself to someone else. Let It Go! They are both two talented ladies. Let them do what they do.

      LOL.
I’m not a huge Bey fan, and I understand if some people may not like her, but why do the people who hate her keep bringing her up. lol.
And how can you say that Beyonce is the “here and now” when that old ass girl has been around for 10 years! I know her songs are not as chill/deep as “Almost Doesn’t Count” or Full Moon, but that I think that’s the whole point. Brandy is the type of artist that you play while youre cleaning the house or driving to work…Beyonce has never wanted to be that as much.

She does come out with a ballad every now and then…and I have to say (maybe I’m alone), but I STILL play “Me, myself, and I”, “Emotions”, AND “Yes” (and that’s not even counting the Destiny’s Child songs “If” and “Cater 2 u” are cute too)

I agree that “Get me Bodied”, “Dangerously In Love”, “Check on It” or even “Bugaboo” are not lyrically genius songs, but when they come on, they always take me back to some fun summer from the past..and thats saying something.

      Whatever.

WHAT’S UP WITH THAT , IT’S NOT LIKE SHES 50 CENT WHO NEEDS IT , SHE HAD CUTE SMALL TEETH WHICH SUITED HER , NOW HER VENEERS ARE SO BIG AND THEY ARE SO OBVIOUS, CANT EVEN SEE HER GUMS!!!
SORRY I AM NOT A DENTIST BUT SINCE I HAVEN’T SEEN HER ON TV FOR LONG TIME I JUST REALLY WANTED TO FIND THE OLD NATURAL (BRAIDS AND ALL) BRANDY I HAVE COME TO KNOW.
ABOUT B , THEY ARE SO DIFFERENT. THEY ARE NIGHT AND DAY.
BEYONCE IS COMPARABLE TO TINA TURNER
      WHILE BRANDY IS WHITNEY.

I LOVE BEYONCE BUT TRUTH BE TOLD.
I WOULD BUY BEYONCE IF I WANTED TO DANCE AND ENJOY A NICE BEAT AND LYRICS.

I agree that Brandy makes timeless music. I also agree that this song has a positive message. HOWEVER, I wouldnt have chosen this as the first song to release. I’m sure the album will be fire tho. I don’t know what the strategy is for her album and this career, but it appears that they/she is not trying to capture a new, younger audience (because Brandy is no spring chicken in this game with all these younger artists coming out daily) but it seems she is trying to maintain her old audience. I like the look I always thought she had afro-asian features and looked nice when she played around with that. The teeth do look a bit big, but I’ve never been a fan of veneers. The only criticism I have is that Michael Jackson stance and neck roll with the arms out. What is that Brandy? Overall, I’m excited to see she’s back and i’m definitely going to cop the album when it drops.

After watching the video again, I am really feeling it! Brandy just get better with age and she looks great! I think in the video she is pertraying a guardian angel.

LOLOLOLOLOLOL woooooooooooooooooooooo. ummm hmmm… But the song is nice though. I think she should re-do the video and make it look like those people are getting help from else where not her.
